I was doing some work building a wall outside today and a friendly mud dauber was taking bits of the concrete I had back to it's nest. It was amusing watching it fly in and take a little chunk in between me reaching in the bucket. It wasn't aggressive at all and even moved out of the way of my hand when I reached in. I guess I made a unlikely friend today
This kind of confirms it. Lived in FL most of my life and always knew these were virtually harmless. I really think you'd have to pin one down like that to get stung. I've accidentally destroyed multiple nests before while cleaning and they just fly away. Paper wasps look similar and daubers are often confused for them, and they will sting if you bug them... although they aren't that aggressive either, compared to hornets.
I have mud daubers living in my garage. And not only are their stings not too painful but they’re also very uninterested in humans. They never bother me.
I know they are wasps, but I never knew they could sting because of how remarkably chill they are. Like, if I see one, I won't go out of my way to get rid of it's existence. I may remove the nest because it's placed in a horrible spot, but that's about all the bad I'll do to it.
Yeah, I've never had any real issues with mud daubers. They're pretty docile. It's the paper wasps you have to watch out for since they can been pretty aggressive. Luckily I've only been stung once by a paper wasp, but it was an unprovoked attack. Stung me on the thumb and it hurt like hell and got pretty swollen.
I read they don't care about us. There were 2 trapped in my house one time and they even flew past me right by my face. Never touched or landed on me. They just like to go about their business and only sting/interact with humans if you purposefully mess with them. Unlike those god awful red paper wasps that come after you just for existing >_>
Always heard them called Dirt Daubers. Not dab, pronounced like Saab. Never knew of anyone stung by one, but always heard that it was a very painful sting.
They're called Daubers because their nests resemble Daub, which is a pretty ancient method of building homes out of mud and sticks. Usually seen with "wattle and daub" homes. It was used by native Americans and by the European colonists alike.
These lived in our summer kitchen years ago. Very passive, non-aggressive, they tend to be solitary which causes them to naturally prefer to flee and live rather than sting and risk dying. I also believe Dauber is pronounced "Dah-ber" as opposed to "Dab-er". A Dauber is a "A crude or inartistic painter, or the implement used for daubing." I love this channel so much
Fun fact: despite being docile wasps, mud daubers, maybe just one mud dauber, was responsible for a plane crash that killed 189 people. In the Dominican Republic in 1996, a Boeing 757 was sitting unused at an airport for 20 days. The staff neglected to put covers over the pitot tubes, which are used to help measure the airspeed. A mud dauber nest built in one of the tubes during that time blocked the air flow into the tube which caused an erroneously high airspeed reading on one of the airspeed indicators. Thinking they were flying too fast, the captain reduced the engine thrust and caused a stall.
Mud dauber wasps are fascinating creatures! I love how they meticulously build their nests using mud, and their hunting behavior is truly impressive. Nature never ceases to amaze me!
I wouldn't normally ask someone to deliberately take an insect sting but I'm curious I hear the ichneumon wasp has a 4 inch stinger, but what I want to know is, does the size of the stinger make getting stung more painful than the venom yeild?
The four inch tube on an Ichneumon is an oviduct used to lay eggs deep within dead trees. They slowly work it down into the wood fibers and lay eggs. It takes time to insert and remove it and if you catch one while it has it inserted it can be bad because they can rip it off in panic.
I got stung on the eyelid by one of these as a kid. I found a discarded metal office desk that had been dumped for some reason, in good condition to. I was curious if anything was inside of it...and yep! As soon as I opened a drawer one flew right at me and hit my eye. Reflex saved me and it stung my eyelid. I didn't even feel the sting itself and it took 10 seconds or so to feel any pain at all. I'm sure it only stung me because I broke its nest and it felt trapped in the drawer or something like that. I didn't stick around to investigate and only caught glimpse of it. It wasn't that a bad sting despite the location. I'd rate it lower than yellow jackets or carpenter bees, but worse than sweat bees. My eyelid was swollen for a few hours and after that initial burning subsided in a few minutes, it was more of a dull ache. I've been near tons of daubers and never been stung before that, or since. Carpenter bees are similarly non-aggressive and my sting there (or bite?) was because it got trapped in my shoe. That cause my whole foot to swell up and I couldn't wear my shoe until the next day.
Not too long ago, one of those little dudes wandered into my house. I was using my computer and had not even noticed the little guy looking at me curiously. I had finally noticed it on my hand, and i had thought it would sting me. It did not. It just wandered all around my hand I loved the little thing, but since this was not supposed to be in my house, I went outside and i thought it'd fly off but it just came back. I let it stay until it had studied me thoroughly enough.
I've had one land on my arm while mowing lawn years ago. We kind of just stared at each other, then after a few minutes it flew off. Definitely a chill wasp
I saw my uncle put his hand on a Mud Dauber nest before and they crawled on his hand but never stung him...I feel like you *really* gotta tick them off in order for them to sting you haha.
I got stung on the eyelid by one of these as a kid, and it wasn't that bad, but there's a big difference between eye and eyelid! I can't imagine how horrible failing my reflex to close my eye would have been. What do they even do for that?

I don't know how you could ever be intimidated by a mud dauber. They hear the most docile of the wasps. To be honest I didn't even know that these stung. My entire life I had been told that they didn't so I didn't think that they even had a stinger but I guess they are just chill.
Thanks for your video! The pain level as you explained it helped me to realize that I was not stung by what may have been mud daubers that I saw in my yard when I was doing yardwork. Decided to go to the doctor and it turned out I had shingles. Lots more painful than these.
this! I'm gonna keep posting about it and asking bc its messed up they hyped it up so much but it's nowhere to be found... I was really looking forward to that video. very disappointing.
I think I've been bitten or stung by every flying insect where I live. Mud daubers are by far the least painful. I had to examine the site to confirm I was actually stung.
Most of this channel's videos are a lot more extreme. But this one is a frw steps down from "The Hornet King". Still, it does help legitimize the BSI scale by putting lower rankings on it.

He was arrested in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for conspiracy to overthrow their government.
He’s still around, but he’s been stung or bitten by every bug there is in the world. Plus I like this guy too? Coyote is just a over actor in his videos
@@ike8236are you for real?
The real question is, have you ever squished one of the insects you were doing a video with by accident?😂
Who else likes Mark 👇
Cyote peterson better

I live in Mississippi and we have dirt daubers (idk if it’s the same thing) but they never sting. Literally you can swat at them and mess with there nest and they never sting. Honestly I didn’t know they could even sting humans until this vid, but they are so docile that they will apparently only sting you if you force them to. Definitely not a species to worry ab.
Hi mark how is coyote peterson i was first
Why does your comment say it was 8 days ago?
I don't know how you could ever be intimidated by a mud dauber. They hear the most docile of the wasps. To be honest I didn't even know that these stung. My entire life I had been told that they didn't so I didn't think that they even had a stinger but I guess they are just chill.
I hate those things
Thanks for your video! The pain level as you explained it helped me to realize that I was not stung by what may have been mud daubers that I saw in my yard when I was doing yardwork. Decided to go to the doctor and it turned out I had shingles. Lots more painful than these.
I really think Mark Vins has been outshining Coyote on this channel for a while now. 🎉
Bite sting index is the same thing as kings of Pain just kid friendly idk who was the first show but it just seems like a spin off of each other
Okay, is it just me or did parts of Beastlord look exactly like parts of "The Lion King?"
if you’re going through the sting list again, you have to do the Japanese giant hornet!
Awesome Video, But Where's The Centipede Stream With Coyote?
this! I'm gonna keep posting about it and asking bc its messed up they hyped it up so much but it's nowhere to be found... I was really looking forward to that video. very disappointing.
@@luvrbaeme too they had it live and I missed it, thought they would keep the stream up but it’s gone 😔
I think I've been bitten or stung by every flying insect where I live. Mud daubers are by far the least painful. I had to examine the site to confirm I was actually stung.
WHERE’S CAYOTE PETERSON?!
Please try the sting of the Philippine Hornet (Vespa Luctuosa)

One of the most common wasps I could find as a child. Now I can finally see what it would be like to be stung by one.
Lmao them wasps ganna be workin at rubbermade soon if they make them bins
Most of this channel's videos are a lot more extreme. But this one is a frw steps down from "The Hornet King". Still, it does help legitimize the BSI scale by putting lower rankings on it.
