It's really great to see Ralf's performance on Roland's official channel. I really love his playing. I wasn't going to replace my TD-50X because I'm happy with it, but when he collaborated with DW to produce such a great sound, I was swayed. I was a TDE-7 edoptee. First week at Chuck Levitz Music in (Rockville,MD?) I bought off the truck-been hooked on edrums ever since those easy recordings in my spare bedroom. I don’t professionally record anymore-wasn’t conducive to bill paying. But I’ll be some extra cash on a new Roland kit.
Roland has perfected the triggering, the design, the size of the pads, the cymbals... let's see how many years before they finally stop overprocessing the sounds and start sounding like a vst ... maybe I could buy one.
Would like to see some more subtle playing to determine if this kit is able to handle jazz-level playing or if it's just for pop, rock and rap kind of stuff.
they're pointless to 99% of people, and it would just add to the price tag - hihat has got a lot better since its digital and has a slightly different sound closer to the bell
The cymbal sounds are still not good. I guess you still need to link it up to SD3 or Slate. I wanted to use my TD-30KV for recordings but it has too many miss hits and just never translated like an acoustic set. I don't know if upgrading to this set with SD3 would work any better.
Import your own cymbal sounds. With SoundWorks you can sample your own cymbals over 18 layers with 5 mics. Get the exact sound you want. You should be getting no miss-triggering as longs as the correct pad types are chosen and hihat calibrated.

Hello, I am from Argentina and in 2017 I bought a TD50k. It is a wonderful instrument but despite being able to edit the sounds, it is not possible to have those that the TD30 comes with. I spoke to the company to ask them to tell me where to import the sounds of that model from and they told me that it cannot be done, that each model brings its own. I am totally disappointed with the answer since in my country having one of these instruments means paying twice what it costs in any other country. I don't know if such an expense is advisable for those things to happen.
Some amazing sounding kits for sure, but all but the very first one are extras you have to pay for. Included kits aren't much different to the stock ones on the TD-50X from what I've heard so far 😞
I don't understand, where do you here the machine gunning. A lot of people Complaining about machine gunning and bad sound. You need to learn how to tweak The module. I play still the Roland TD50 and it sounds Great with absolutely no machine gunning, but i know how to tweak The sound module.
Fantastic drummer, but still quite disappointed with the sound of the module, it is just another Roland module that cannot make real drum sounds like many other brands on the market.
BFD3 in the strata prime sounds better. Another issue is the lack of dynamics … clipped dynamics, more specifically.. and limited capture of nuanced articulations and response to stick bead shape and timbre, causing the sounds to come off like general midi rather than a nuanced instrument. At least the V-Drums hardware is reliable and solid; always has been.
@@bubba101010 Exactly. I have a TD12 kit for years and years and it still sounds phenomenal with BFD. I'm seriously looking at upgrading to this kit but I'd still only use the brain for midi. I'd still use BFD for the sounds, which in my opinion is unmatched when it comes to realism on the drums.
Funny how all the people who criticize the module’s sound are the same people who praise albums with overly processed vsts that sound nowhere near what real recorded acoustic drums would yet here they are saying how this drums are not realistic.😂
Skilled Drummer, but the drums (especially the snares) lack that "round-robin" sound. These kits still sound static, like the SAME SAMPLE is being played repeatedly. The kits need more programmed subtle "fluctuations" in pitch, envelope and decay to create a more organic feel. Much of these nuances could be programmed with smart module features, so you don't need too many megabytes of samples to create & "humanize" each kit. One day Roland will get this part right since it's not that hard to do in 2024.
I was expecting a jaw dropping sound after i heard about Roland bought DW. This new module sounds great, don't get me wrong but not as great as Pearl Mimic Pro (which came out almost 8 years ago) Roland had a problem with kickdrums and toms for a LOOONG time and from what i can hear, the problem is still present... They sound weightless and plasticky. Also, it's kind of disappointing that they didn't used the DW wireless tech in Roland drums.
Mate…with all due respect, I think you miss the point. When I sit at my TD50X, I know it’s not going to have anywhere near the visceral power of my Tama Star or Gretsch USA kits. What the 50X is gonna sound like is how my acoustic kits sound after recording/eq/compression/reverb. Your mileage may vary…but I want my drums to sound “like a record” with the minimum of fuss…
Great stuff! However, some of the hi hat work is sounding clipped or truncated in a weird way when he is just using his foot to open, close the hi hat…when he is not actually using sticks to play it but when he is just stomping down on it. It sounds unnaturally loud and there is an unnatural “chick” sound with some sort of artifact. See if you notice it too…!? If I was the producer, I would take issue with it, as it is odd sounding and distracting. I’m not sure if it’s due to the performance, the settings or what but this would need to be corrected. If this was not correctable, then that would be a huge issue. Odd that this was not noticed. Or am I the only person hearing this?
It’s mostly in the 3rd segment and it is on some hi hat “chicks” that are integrated with the hi hat stick work. He cuts off the hi hat purposefully for accent and affect (which is cool) but the sound is quite electronic in the way the hi hat cuts out (rests or mutes) within the groove. Other than this detail, I think things sound great and the performance is fantastic.
I pre-ordered one but it looks like I'm still going to be having the same issue that drives me crazy with my td50x. The lack of nylon tip stick hitting the bow of the ride like a rock ride sounds.. All the sounds that are not on the Bell sound like it's being hit with a felt mallet instead of a nylon tip stick.. That is my number one gripe on my td50x. I have made a ride that's tolerable but still aggravating for my 50x. I hope it's easier for this module to make one that suits my taste... this is the bow sound I want on an E ride.. I actually own this Zildgjian ride and love it ruclips.net/video/YM0Zq1n6ypA/видео.html
They still sound electronic to me, especially the toms. The latest module from Alesis (which uses BFD samples) sounds more convincing. Side note - and there's a growing market for it: why don't any modules have an analog synthesis section, with knobs (not buttons, sorry Nord) alongside the "acoustic" offerings? Perhaps Roland could work with Steven Slate for better acoustic samples and one-up Nord on the analog drum-synth section?
@@effyiew7318 I actually haven't heard Slate, I just threw it out there because Alesis has BFD and I couldn't think of any others besides Slate. So, you're probably right lol
