  • How to fix P0300 Code: Random or Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
A P0300 code is set when one or more cylinders are not firing correctly.
Common causes of a P0300 code include ignition system issues, a vacuum leak, a bad sensor, fuel delivery problems, and more.
A P0300 code can be difficult to troubleshoot since so many things can cause it.
Be sure to look for other codes since they can help point to the problem.

    Possible Causes of P0300 Code:
Ignition System Problems (Spark plug, spark plug wire, weak coil)
Fuel Delivery Issues (Weak fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, fuel injectors)
    Air Intake (Clogged air filter)
Vacuum leak (Damaged or loose hose or a leaking intake manifold gasket)
    Bad Sensor
    Clogged Exhaust
How to Troubleshoot a P0300 Code:
    Are there other codes?
    Check the intake air filter.
Find which cylinder or cylinders are not firing.
    Check for spark
    Check fuel pressure
    Check for clogged exhaust
    Check for vacuum leak

BENT COIL CONNECTOR PIN: I had an annoying and hard to trouble shoot P0300 code on my 6 cylinder 2003 GMC Envoy XL. I had replaced the spark plugs and coils and the code and misfire would not go away. Why it did not trigger a P030x error, I don't know. Just passing this along as something simple for others to check. Have a nice day!

Fixed a P0300 code that I had been fighting for a year after installing a new transmission on a 2010 wrangler . I literally did everything . Ended up pulling the transmission and replacing the new flexplate I had installed with a OEM transmission . It was made wrong and sending the wrong signal to the PCM .

If the MAF sensor is new, it is likely in the wiring. It also looks like it has the IAT sensor built into it. I would get schematics for the vehicle and test the MAF sensor wiring, as there is likely an open or short. Also, be sure to check any related fuses.

If another code is saying Running Rich, I would check the injector on cylinder 8.

I'm now getting a p0300 and a p2097... Replaced both O2s and cat is new.. also getting misfire p0301 302, 303, 304. 4cyl motor.. engine is running fine.. I don't notice a misfire or hesitation... Should I still suspect the coil packs or plugs? Please help me out.. running out of options.

The "P2097 Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Rich Bank 1" is likely the cause. Something is throwing off the air/fuel ratio causing more fuel than air to go into the cylinders.

@@HVAC_Mechanic I agree . Something is throwing off a/f.. just unsure what..

A Rich condition can be hard to troubleshoot but it seems to be something affecting the whole engine like a stuck open purge valve. If you think it is a bad injector, remove the spark plugs one at a time, and match them to a spark plug burn chart and see if a cylinder is running Rich.

@@HVAC_Mechanic Update.. I checked all spark plugs, coils, injectors.. all check out fine.. misfire code has Gona away.. also did a smoke test for vacuum.leaks...saw nothing in the engine bay leaking.. checked cam sensor for resistance and continuity. Checked all sensors and harness plugs for resistance and continuity and faulty breaks in wiring.. all good... The only thing that I did off the cuff was removed the air box and cleaned it out.. seemed to be some debris .. also removed the MAF sensor and sprayed it with that crc cleaner.. air filter looks new.. cleared code and nothing has popped back yet... Could it have been a dirty MAF sensor being the culprit? Nobody ever mentions that as a possibility for P2097 in any YT video..
