Faulty catalytic converter(s) that are also causing misfires due to back pressure, overheating, faulty o2 readings downstream etc… Basically, bad cats. Grab some cataclean from the store and see if that fixes it.
So, is it the P0300 that caused the P0014 code on my 2014 Nissan Rogue, or other way around? I’ve read so many different opinions and fixes here on RUclips that I don’t know what to believe anymore. Some videos talk about replacing camshaft, VVT sensors. Vehicle has 101,000 Kms, so I guess I can start with a new set of Iridium spark plugs, even though original ones are supposed to go to 160,000 Kms. Thanks.
My VAG (Skoda Kodiaq) vehicle gave the error code P0300-00. Without even testing the battery, the authorized service changed the spark plugs. Then they told me that they would remove the cylinder head and clean the valves ($1100). I didn't really believe this situation since the vehicle was working fine. Shortly after, other problems started in the vehicle 1- the horn does not work occasionally 2- the start stop gives an error 3- the cruise control did not engage. 4- It was difficult to start even though I drove for a long time. Finally, a warning came that the vehicle's battery was lower than 12V. The battery was dead. I had it changed. The warnings stopped for now.
Hey, i have a grand Cherokee laredo 2009 3.7L , there was a problem with coil number 5, i'v replaced it also replaced spark plugs, but some times when i'm driving the car suddenly i feel a high vibration it looks like from the engine but when i stop the car and start it again after 1 minute i don't feel any vibration, with a scanner there is misfire with cylinder 3, any thoughts about the problem please!!
Misfires can be caused by several different things. It sounds like you're on the right path with replacing the coilpack and plugs. Always be sure to replace the spark plugs with a good quality plug. Example is an O.E recommended replacement, and be sure to replace all spark plugs at the same time. P0300 is a fault for random multiple misfire, P0303 is misfire cylinder 3. If cylinder 3 now has a misfire you can quickly find out if this is a coilpack issue by swapping the coil pack from the cylinder with the misfire code to a cylinder that does not have the fault. Example for cylinder 3 misfire. Engine off Locate cylinder 3 coil pack. Standing in front of the engine , driver side (bank 2) there will be three coilpacks. Counting from the front of the car to the back these cylinders are 1,3,5. Remove the coil pack from cylinder 3 and swap that one with cylinder 1 or 5 (all coil packs are the same so whichever one is easiest to get to). Reinstall and start up engine. If the misfire fault moved from cylinder 3 to the cylinder you installed the coil pack, you know that you are looking at faulty coil pack. Now there are a few other things that can cause a misfire. Look for any vacuum leaks. There are many plastic / rubber hoses under the hood and over time these can become brittle and crack or break. When this happens unmetered air can be entering the system causing the vehicle to run lean and causing a rough running issue or misfire. A vacuum leak can be hard to find and may require a smoke test to be performed in order to find the leak. There are a few different ways to quickly check for a vacuum leak. First do a visual inspection looking for any cracked lines, hoses etc. Then gently move the hoses, lines etc around and listen for any hissing noises or changes in idle when doing so. Another way is to spray a small amount of brake cleaner or carb cleaner on connection areas. This will increase the idle also letting you know there is a leak. BE SURE TO NOT SPRAY CARB CLEANER OR BRAKE CLEANER ON HOT SURFACES OR IGNITION ITEMS AS IT IS FLAMABLE! A few other things that can cause random multiples engine misfire are faulty fuel injector, dirty fuel injectors, dirty or clogged fuel filter, vacuum leaks, mass air flow sensor along with other sensors in the system. Once all other items are ruled out next step would be to check engine health by doing a compression / leak down test. This may be something you will need to have your local auto shop do as special tools are required. Hope this helps!
i got this code on 98 tacoma, after reading some comments if a battery had to do something with it, I was skeptical too, and after watching an Scotty video he mention that a bad battery can affect the computer and send all kinds of codes , in my case i cleaned the terminal connectors , and after 300 miles no codes so far

1st thing is to stop smoking while driving 2nd is find a real mechanic if it was worse when you left than when you walked in. Hopefully it’s fixed by now so did you find the real problem?
Right now, I have a Mechanic telling me that my PentaStar is looking at a $5500 CDN repair. Called out my tensioners and everything around timing of my Cams. At 275k kms, I told him to look for an engine. Not happy with my Jeep at all. 2020, tranny and rear diff because the frequency dampener came off my driveshaft while on the highway. $10 k for that, and now another $10 k. JUST EMPTY EVERY POCKET!
It takes over most of the load but Not completely, like your radio will shut off, guages, and other electronics , so yes the alternator can run a car without a battery but it doesnt run everything. You wont go far.
Decent explanation but $60/40 labour to change each spark plug? That's insane. It should take less than half an hour on the majority of cars to change ALL plugs.
That caught my eye/ear too. He shouldnt list "per plug" but he is about right on the costs and even under in some cases. All three of the vehicles we have require the removal of the intake manifold to access all the plugs. Just about any modern V6 or smaller is going to be like that. It took me the better part of two hours to do them on a 2013 Town & Country...and you know book rate will be at least double that. At just $90 an hour you're looking at probably at least 3.5 hours on book rate and if you figure 6 plug you are at $52.5 per so yeah, that's probably about right.
On a 4 cylinder yes, but on a v6 it’s a pain in butt sometimes. My Chevy s10, 4.3 has a spark plug right behind the drive shaft. It took all day to get the wires and plugs out
I have a 2000 JEEP Grand Cherokee with the 4.0L Straight 6 and when starting it up sometimes it will have a really nasty misfire and if I just rev it up or just start driving you can hear when the other cylinders actually start firing. I have codes P0138,P0300 has anyone else had the same issue as well??? I've changed plugs and didn't really help then I bought the coil pack and yes its the weird one where you get all 6 on a long bar. When I replaced that my JEEP would not run at all. So I put the old one back on and it ran fine other than the misfire once in a while. Its not every time I start it just when it wants to be stubborn. Any ideas anybody??
Bro them prices are insane. You getting your work done in a Bentley in Beverly Hills? Lol. It literally took me 15mins to change all 4 of my injectors. $40-60 each if u get from auto dealer. Maybe 150 if you have a serious sport car.
Let keep throwing parts at it, until you run out of parts. If you are going to throw parts at it like the video suggest. Take it to a mechanic IT WILL BE CHEAPER.
See at least one problem, the battery main use is to start the vehicle once vehicle is running the alternator does the power to electrical system not the battery hence cranking amps the ability to crank over the engine
I ignored my check engine light. And then my truck started to make a pop noise and i lost a lot of power and went way slower also each time it made the pop noise my truck jerked. Anyways it’s a 1200-2000 dollar repair cause they have to take it to a machine shop and flatten it out or whatever. 🤷♂️
Only problem is most cars now a days the voltage regulator is computer controlled like with Honda and the ELD in the underhood fuse box, it reports to the ECU to tell it what to do as for charging the field of the Alternator to put less load on the engine. Turning on thing's like headlights and blower motors should make the ELD tell the ECU to crank up voltage from the Alternator and if it doesn't you could get the wrong reading
Nice video ! Right now I have a problem w/ my 2009 Nissan Sentra with cvt transmission. It has 225k km in it, the problem is when I drive for around 1 km only my speed is only 40 to 50 km only w/ 3500 to 4500 rpm. And you can hear the engine like a mad man. I already replace the speed sensor but still no good result. I appreciate if u can give me some advice thanks n more power!
We'd probably need a little more info, but I do have one suggestion (it's sneaky). If you have an Obdii reader you can try the premium version of our app for free. Then you can call a certified mechanic who will help troubleshoot some problems for you! Cheers!
Bruhh I took my Lincoln mkz to a repair shop they did everything they could and suggested that I should go to the dealership because I probably need an update or something
Almost everything was reasonable except the piece about the battery being strong enough to start the engine but too weak to run the spark plugs. That's nonsense.

I got this code on my mustang 5.0. Everytime the check engine light blinks the car stalls n u can hear it n when I try to hit the gas it goes nowhere.
Will I pass the state (California) Smog test with this code? if there is nothing else wrong and no Check engine light?
Thanks very much. You speak my language.
So what if your p0300 is accompanied by p0420 and 0430?
Did you ever get an answer to that ? Have the same codes
DId u get answer?
Thanks.
Very good explanation of the problem.
Great video
My VAG (Skoda Kodiaq) vehicle gave the error code P0300-00. Without even testing the battery, the authorized service changed the spark plugs. Then they told me that they would remove the cylinder head and clean the valves ($1100). I didn't really believe this situation since the vehicle was working fine.
Shortly after, other problems started in the vehicle
1- the horn does not work occasionally
2- the start stop gives an error
3- the cruise control did not engage.
Or you can always try putting the antenna up and tune your radio to 107.7 at midnight to receive the reset misfire signal and you should be fine
i got this code on 98 tacoma, after reading some comments if a battery had to do something with it, I was skeptical too, and after watching an Scotty video he mention that a bad battery can affect the computer and send all kinds of codes , in my case i cleaned the terminal connectors , and after 300 miles no codes so far
Awesome thanks you great ideas!
Can anyone tell me if misfiring cylinders can cause an engine to seize? I have a 4 cylinder honda; the engine seized a couple of days after I had the scan done.
@Andrew Dean Thank you. I thought the guy who sold me the car was just unloading a problem on to me; turns out I got a hole in the oil pan somehow....

Can extreme cold (-8 F) cause an engine to misfire when first started?
Maybe a leaking intake manifold...
What about clogged catalytic manifold

P0300 code, blinking check engine light, violent shaking. Change out all 16 spark plugs and coils, still shakes and smells rich. Could it just be flooded with gas? It’s a 2011 Chrysler 300 C V8 Hemi with only 75,000 miles. In fantastic condition. I have a feeling it’s just flooded but unsure if the original misfire could cause it. Any help is appreciated!

What kind of vehicle you have?
1st thing is to stop smoking while driving
2nd is find a real mechanic if it was worse when you left than when you walked in.
Hopefully it’s fixed by now so did you find the real problem?

P0300, rough idle, no check engine light on. 2003 Tahoe Z71
Even a bad transmission filter can make your vehicle run ruff, or say a bad catalytic converter.
You are too funny! Thanks! You helped me a lot!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
I completely agree but what about when it comes to diesel engines?!
I came here because of the p0300 code on my 01 Yukon. Turns out for me, porcelain was cracked on 2 spark plugs.
God I only can hope mine turns out as easy.
I got this code on a new car at 161 miles. Dealership mechanic said it's because of car's computer or bad fuel (car was sitting on lot for long time).
Sorry to hear that - have you gotten the problem resolved?
Por favor, xq no hacen videos en español así nos ayudaría a los que no dominamos el inglés..gracias
Doesn’t the alternator take over after the battery starts the car?
It takes over most of the load but Not completely, like your radio will shut off, guages, and other electronics , so yes the alternator can run a car without a battery but it doesnt run everything. You wont go far.
If the battery is bad it will suck more power than the alternator makes and kill it. Especially if you have lights and radio on
Alternator??
Ive been a mechanic for 80yrs and never heard of a battery causing a missfire
Decent explanation but $60/40 labour to change each spark plug? That's insane. It should take less than half an hour on the majority of cars to change ALL plugs.
Do it yourself then?
It took all day to get the wires and plugs out
😅 yeah, BUT on this one you actually bbw l need to pull the engine forward in order to be able to reach back there.
I got an xterra, and I had to dig to get to my spark plugs. Mechanic said it would be $600, I spent $100 and a weekend instead lol😂
Can it be o2 sensor fault??
Nice my friend blessings
Love this video it explains everything u my new teacher
Check the compression first. Then look t the fuel injectors. Could also be bad ignition timing due to a worn timing chain.
Perfect video tenks
Damn never knew a battery could do this

Loose gas cap? Or..?
@@nazareta6541 he's referring to the distributor cap, it's usually on older vehicles
See at least one problem, the battery main use is to start the vehicle once vehicle is running the alternator does the power to electrical system not the battery hence cranking amps the ability to crank over the engine

Bad gas / water in tank
I ignored my check engine light.
And then my truck started to make a pop noise and i lost a lot of power and went way slower also each time it made the pop noise my truck jerked.
Anyways it’s a 1200-2000 dollar repair cause they have to take it to a machine shop and flatten it out or whatever. 🤷♂️
My 98 Chevy is same way ,code po300 ,pops from mufflers shakes no power idk whats wrong with it, new spark plugs wires still good cap still good
Only problem is most cars now a days the voltage regulator is computer controlled like with Honda and the ELD in the underhood fuse box, it reports to the ECU to tell it what to do as for charging the field of the Alternator to put less load on the engine. Turning on thing's like headlights and blower motors should make the ELD tell the ECU to crank up voltage from the Alternator and if it doesn't you could get the wrong reading

Almost everything was reasonable except the piece about the battery being strong enough to start the engine but too weak to run the spark plugs. That's nonsense.
