I've had this pedal on my board since 2016. it's my only overdrive pedal.
It's a special machine! Hard to take it off the board when you A/B it
Why?
Sounds killer man. I love that you play the pedal in various settings in your videos and show us what said settings are. 👌
The Jan Ray is my favorite overdrive pedal. I also love the J Rockett 45 Caliber, the Dude but I consider those more amp in box pedals to add a JTM or Dumble amp tone to your sound. But for a just a straight up overdrive pedal, it doesn’t get much better than the Jan Ray.
it's so dang good!
Doyle's board is a trip, thanks brother, very nice sound, big price but you get what you pay for
Amen!
Nice video!!!! Might be picking this pedal up!!!
It's dope for so many things!
I love the less saturated settings. I am thinking of trading my mesa boogie v-twin tube preamp pedal for this plus $80 on top from the other guy. I love the mesag but my peavey bravo 112 has two channels and both sound amazing so I plan on using this on the clean setting to break it up for lighter gian stuff and using the channel switcher foot switch for the heavier gain channel. I got a sam hill custom pine wood 2x10 cab that will sound amazing paired with this type of overdrive I think. Thanks for the video. 🤙🏽
Nice!! You're gonna love it!
I love this pedal but I gotta be honest, I think the lowly Blues Driver can do what this does, at least in my favorite settings (and then some). Lesson learned for me. If anyone's considering this pedal, I would recommend you give the Blues Driver a test... drive. It even does a great fuzz tone at higher gains.
That is a really good pedal. I had the Waza BD for a while and loved it!
For the money it's hard to beat the blues driver
that sounds really good
Thanks it’s a killer pedal
Great demo man
Thanks Frankie!
Wow! Seen this pedal at a music store today I might go pick it up tomorrow nice demo!
You’re gonna love it!
Loving this channel
Thanks Brian!
The pedal, to me, sounds like a super sonic amp by fender; it even has super sonic knobs. Great pedal anyway.
it's a stunner!
Yeah you are not wrong. Effing awesome sound.
I have a origin effects revival drive using a fender deluxe reverb would it be worth buying this for my fender amp?
It’s a Monster of a pedal! I think it would be a nice addition with your Revival Drive. If it’s good enough for Doyle Bramhall it’s good enough for us right? Haha. In all seriousness I think you’d dig it!
I’m using that set up on a board at the moment. You can put the Vemuram before or after the Revival Drive (mine is the Compact version of the RD). They complement each other well. You might also consider the Shanks ODS1.
It sounds it's best when the trim pot is set to the most gain position. Then turn the gain down with the knob.
I would agree! Awesome pedal any way you slice it really.
Have you tried the myriad fuzz yet Mark. I bought the large version "the myriad" about two months ago. I have bought several fuzzes over the years and have always been left wanting more. I can happily say I will never need another fuzz. It is the creamiest fuzz I have ever played. It is just on another level.
I've played the small version and it rips!! Lots of headroom too - soooo loud hahaha
That sounds so sweet!
it's a good one!
And, your tone is amazing.
thanks man! It's gotten so much better since this video too. This is like the beginning of me getting into RUclips. There's a newer drive pedal I got from Silktone that might be the best OD pedal I have played all year. It's called the Overdrive +. I'd check that out for sure!
The blues power is better imo but both are equally fun to use
Love my BP too!
Sounds sweeter at the lowest saturation level.
100% agree! Thanks for watching
Credit to Paul Cochran who ACTUALLY designed this pedal and was ripped off by Vemuran wholesale before covering the board in black gunk to try to hide things…
How are you capturing your sound?
Pro Tools and a trusty SM57
Most pedals are clones of previous creations.id take the jan ray .
Damn
Lol yup
mad playing my man! just wuuuow!
Thank you!
@@markhopkinsmusic Thank you ! got some good ear orgasms outta dat! :p
If this pedal was $60 he wouldn’t be as excited pretty sure.
Lmao you penny pinchers are in every comment section of videos on boutique gear. Go play your ts mini and stfu lmao
Great sound, but i am short of cash. Digitechs Screaming Blues is good on low gain. Or one could buy a clone of some sort for 30 USD. For a real tonechaser with a wallet though - hell yeah, its a reason this pedal is a classic. I want :)
I’ve never played a Timmy but apparently this pedal is based on that and they are much cheaper. I gotta try one of those too!
do you prefer it over the timmy?
Not since I got a Timmy haha I think it’s a great pedal but I ended up selling it to buy other pedals and gear haha
So you got a Timmy after this and liked the Timmy more? Now what do you have in it's place? Thanks ☺️
@@AnthonyEvans-wl5ts still using the Timmy which also sometimes gets swapped for the Greer Lightspeed
Nothing, that's the answer. It's a Timmy at twice the price. The Caline Timmy clone sounds the same and costs $30. This emperor wears no clothes.
Did you do a side by side comparison of both pedals?
it's heavy, so my conclusion is that it's well made. umkay.
Timmy is transparent kind of not-coloring gain booster thing and this one has pretty colorful texture in it. The fact that they used Tim's topology doesn't make it sound the same. I understand blaming Vemuram for using Tim's topology and not saying any honoroble mention for Paul but those two are a different animal.
I prefer Timmy for humbuckers with dirty amps but Jan Ray is way more good for Strats. It works like perfectly evolved Tube Screamary sth. Actually, it sounds closer to TS rather than Timmy.
That's not true at all, the pedal has a tone warmer than the Timmy and the gain knob performs throughout the range whereas the timmy sounds crap when you crank it.
The price
I hear you, Bro. I just bought a Pogo Pedals Zen Ray because this costs too much, it's like a Zen Drive and a Jan Ray / Timmy, and is 33% off on Reverb until the end of April. :) Cheers.
I could give a Fu(% about body armor. RUclips ads are super annoying.
what a random ad. i agree about the YT ads, but every little bit helps me month to month so it's a necessary evil.
Your cleans already had distortion...
yup - i don't like things pristine clean. usually overdrive pedals and fuzz pedals love a base tone with some grit to start - at least that's what I dig.
@@markhopkinsmusic i dial in my best liked cleans on a fender super or twin and take that as my base .
I was very surprised how bad that works for some clone klons. It just doesn't work. Having said that. I like low gain distortion.
The most discerning ears in contemporary music put this on their board for a reason… if a Timmy was better that’s what they’d be playing…. It’s unfortunate if you can’t afford one… maybe you should get a real job… 😂😂😂😂🎉
Hahaha - another cool alternative is the Music Box Lyla Drive - very cool pedal in the similar vein.
No thanks. I’ll take a Timmy
Sold this a while ago and now I have a Timmy haha.
Being a shameless clone of Timmy. That's what makes it "great".
Doesn't sound the same though. I had a Timmy and they're different. Might just be different values, but some people seem to like the Jan Ray and not the timmy. So, there you go.
It shares the same topology. There’s at least a dozen component changes
I had a Timmy and now own the Jan Ray and much prefer the Jan Ray, I found the Timmy to be far too dark sounding, whereas the Jan Ray is lush.
I dont really care about the circuits being similar, because the pedals sound completely different.
You could bash dozens of pedals for stealing the ts design by that logic
Lmao 🤣 it’s much better than a timmy
No doubt it’s partly due to iPhone etc, but I hear nothing but ugly, sterile ear hurting sounds. All is subjective. No one is right ….
Overpriced Timmy ripof.......
What is the factory setting for the saturation? 50%?
Hey, thanks for watching. I’m not 100% sure. I actually sold this pedal a little while back.
