NEW VID! *How to get your partner into mountain biking* 🤘🤘🤘: ruclips.net/video/BdF7YEqbm7s/видео.html
lol i did ( no joke )
What I also learned is that I need to move to whistler.
Hahahahaha
Indeed my friend
Ya
Trestle is super fun too
I wish that were possible for me
1) Don't pull on the handlebars. This will usually cause the bike to tilt to one side or the other in the air.
2) Don't try to put your bike back on the ground as fast as possible. This will lead to extended arms and "dead sailor" syndrome. Let the bike come into you naturally.
3) Go slower. This will force you to push into the face of the jump harder to clear the jump. Speed will mask bad technique.
GG Beth. Awesome for you.
If I press evenly, does the front and back need to travel the same distance and does the rebound need to act the same on the front and rear. I've always jumped motorcycles and bmx but I'm wanting to jump full suspension but it's feels so different. I'd appreciate any advice and that was a great comment you made. 👍
1) check suspension before you hit the trail, last thing you want to do is rear shock or fork compressing 2x times more than other.
2) prioritise the landing after the suspension compressed, I don't knwo how but found people that didn't care about the landing much and it ended mostly with injuries
@@neko3154 thank you so much
I did find that practice on jumps at lower speeds definitely showed my weaknesses. I have to keep working on the “pre-loading”. It’s easy to fly over small to medium jumps at trail speed without actually jumping! Thanks! 🍻 - Beth
OOOH!!! #1 is my problem, in the air, my bike always goes "/" instead of "|". Didn't know I was doing that.
32 years of age never mountain biked in my life. after watching this video for 2 days straight I'm now clearing a ten footer in my local bike park. No jumps to 10 ft in 3 days. Thank you so much guys!!!
I'm 54. Until yesterday I had never ridden a bike, ever, and now I'm clearing ravines and won a MTB race. Tomorrow I'm going to learn how to wingsuit through a one metre hole.
@@okidoke4822 Im 99, and I had never ridden a bike, not even learned how to. And now, I participated in red bull rampage, red bull hardline, audi nines and freeride feista. I have also discovered a new element while mountain biking.
@@Bhav_2406 I died the other day passing through the eye of a needle but resuscitated myself and then went on to win the Mr Universe competition after i parachuted down from the moon.
@@okidoke4822 One meter is a bit tight for your first attempts. The key is to relax and let it flow. I think you should launch off the MTB, and have someone follow you. The footage will be epic. - Cheers and good luck....never mind you don't need luck, you've got it.
I'm 2 years old and I had only ever ridden a hot wheels. Now, after watching this video I'm shredding black diamond epic jump trails and earned the attention of Pampers Inc. who decided to sponser all of my future mountain bike riding. Thanks Loam Ranger!
Nice! The big dirt jump at the end was legit!!
Thank you! Tbh they feel big but are great for practicing. - Beth
FABULOUS WORK! No doubt you find it easier on the nimbler Ibis as apposed to the Pole?
One more thing I do along with the tips on this video is, move my feet back and forth depending on how I want my bike to land, while on the jump I sometimes position my feet forward to dive position my bike, or heels down for landing on the back tire. Or the neutral parallel to land flat.
Thanks, nice video!
Beth, that was awesome!
If you’re both making videos now we get twice as much content, right?… right!?
Thanks! Twice as much content?! 😅😂 - Beth
I was at Whistler 3 weeks ago and had the pleasure to be in a bike park for the time. As of that, i took an "intro to bikepark" lesson, which is a group ride. As the skills of the 3 person group where greatly divided, I got a 1 on 1 lesson with Ben. Back in Switzerland, singletrails are our bike pathways and Ben did a faboulous job of getting the bike park and downhill feeling into me. We did not really jump, but dropping was one of our focuses. Dropping a 1m drop at the end of the day was a huge accomplishment for me and an awesome feeling. I can't tell enough good things with getting a lesson for training new skills (specially with the great guides in whistler).
Ben is a great teacher! Awesome to hear you were getting that drop 🙌 - Beth
Great tips! One question- if you’re on a hard tail bike, what changes? Can you compress a hard tail the same way? We’re making videos for beginners on hard tails.
Learned from experience. Things on video are 100% easier than it seems. Hit a jump out of my skill level and crashed hard. I was recording it, and when I reviewed the footage I realised how small it looked.
A massive tip that helped me start to do proper jumps on jumps and getting air was practising jumping over sticks and logs which i then used to jump over table tops, imagining like it was a massive stick or log. This made me jump higher get more air and add a little more style into my jumps by being able to move my bike. Hope this helps anyone please comment below if u use this technique ; )
Practicing the bunny hop is very helpful for me! Good tip 🙌 - Beth
Seems worth a shot😁
One of the best jumping tutorials I've seen. Great job! Thanks.
How I fine tune my jumps is by sessioning jumps and recording it from the side. And really focusing on my form while I do it. This is great cause now you recorded yourself while focusing on your form so you will be able to see how your body reacted to your command. You will notice that your body does not do the movement as "big" as you thought it did and stuff like that!
Yes it was really helpful going through all the footage! Good advice 🙌 - Beth
That's probably the single most helpful jumping tutorial I've seen so far. Great job!
The part about compressing with my feet really upgraded my jumps: less effort, more control, much air time, so fun. Thank you.
More air time = more fun! 🤟 Glad you like the video. Thanks! - Beth
Just had a lesson with Ben! He's awesome. Great video! He helped me improve on A-line!
That was great , rode the chair with Ben yesterday he was a great guy
He is a great guy and a great teacher! 🍻 - Beth
So I watched this video two days ago and realized I have been jumping with only pulling my arms up, not focusing on compression and full body movements. Today I rode a trail I have ridden 100 times before, and I always skip the gap jump (we only have one). However, today I committed way before it even came into view, compressed with me full body, and I swear I floated over this thing like I was a pro rider. It was awesome. Perfect landing. Awesome video!! I subbed
Awesome video guys, one of the best out there for breaking it down into its simplest form. Only questions i have are:
1. Timing - are there specific points on the jumps you should be aiming to perform each step?
2. Sizing/steepness - I've found that the way you hit jumps varies greatly depending on the size and steepness of the jump. Any tips for this?
Slow speed, point by point, really made this accessible as well as easy to remember. More please!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! More to come! 🍻 - Beth

Awesome video, my friends are getting into riding again and jumping is what they are on now and this will help massively thank you 🤘
Good Job! I had Ben as my instructor when I went to whistler not too long ago. Very good instructor!
He is a great instructor! 🍻- Beth
Gotta love these tutorials, basically universally. The first one they blow it, the second one they do better, then the third one they nail it. All such fast learners!
Great work explaining this man, and very philosophical approach, thanks a lot, will practiice this on speed bumps tomorrow!
Hey, I just want to say thanks for this upload! The video show me great advice how to jump and I was able to gain some nice air today on my local trails :D I'm not new to mountain biking just haven't biked in over 2 years and feel a bit rusty on the trails. Beth did a great job at making this video. You two are a great team, cute couple, and you guys have me as a new subscriber :)
I reckon this is the best, most concise introduction to jumping I have seen. Thanks heaps.
Nice job on the video, Beth. And nice job learning new things in front of a camera. The clip of you a few weeks later is actually really impressive. Keep it up.
This is by far one of the best tutorials i’ve ever seen so far, thanks dude!
You haven't seen enough tutorials then. Check out Kyle Warner's channel or even GMBN
NICE video beth . Your skill and fitness are showing!! great work ! you look amazing! What a family!
Thank you for the kind words ☺️ - Beth
Great video even better jumping progression! You made it look so easy.
Thank you! At least it looked easy 😅🤣 - Beth
Pretty clear instructions. I can start to see the body position and movement for jumping a bit better after this one. Great job!
Thanks! I’m glad to hear it’s helpful 🍻 - Beth
Wow, really impressed with progression.
Good tips! I haven't had to think about the basics of jumping for probably 14 years but Ben gave a really solid breakdown. Also, Beth's last jump before the POV footage on Crank it Up couldn't have been more perfect. Great stuff!
Thanks! Ben is a great teacher, he really did a good job breaking it down! 🍻 - Beth
Awesome video - really clear and concise don’t have any problem getting my bike to pop just not sure if what to do with that energy & this will really help to make the jumping thing something I do deliberately not just by accident!! Those last jumps where awesome you’re killing it!!!
Thank you! Good to hear it was helpful. 🍻 - Beth
Just got my first full-suspension bike at 57, but I raced BMX and motorcycles for years when I was young. Been riding and jumping my hardtail ( mtb's) for the past 15 years and can launch off things I shouldn't be launching off but it's still in my DNA. The first jump I hit with my new SC Hightower just kinda disappeared. The suspension just sucked it up and I was probably bunny hopping at the same time. The jumps that just naturally load the bike suspension up like a 'down into a ravine and up with a launch at the top' work perfect, but the quick pop from a level trail just sends me into unifamiliar territory. Land all wrong and out of balance. This video was great to point out the need for a balanced pre-load and the timing. Thank you. I'll be out working on it this afternoon:)
Thank you! Thank you! The video I was looking for! Well done and explained
Great tips. Thanks for the video.
Wow. Congratulations on your progression!
this is an excellent quick easy tutorial
If on a full suspension bike, make sure your rebound isn't set too fast. It will most likely buck you and make the launch harder to control. Personally, I find that whipping or kicking out the back of the bike helps me to control myself better in the air. Great video guys!
Awesome video well done on the production. Spot on👌👌
Thanks for making this video short and to the point. The review points at the end were great! I would love to see more videos with you either teaching or getting lessons from a coach regarding navigating your way through technical trail sections (for beginner/intermediate riders). Thanks!
Booker T best piece of advice I ever got is keep speed in check pedals level and make sure you adjust how far ahead you look on trail for speed you carrying looking at front tire will cause major unbalance and to far ahead also will cause issues as your body will react to soon also trust your bike lean back a little and let off the brake for the really rough stuff
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I’d love to make instructional videos with advice from the experts (not me😅). hopefully more to come soon! - Beth
Great Job Beth and keep it up I too have issues with this, Mainly just because i get into my head too much and not a kid anymore but its something to work on for me as well. Glad you are joining Ryan with this passion for MTBing along with your kiddos you guys are going to be a family of shredders!!
Thanks! So much of biking is a head game. Some days worse than others 😅 I’d love to be as fearless as the kids. Im sure mine are going to surpass me in no time! 🍻 - Beth
Great vid! Nice explanation! I'll def be trying those techniques! Keep up the good work. And congrats Beth on your first vid!

@@LiftedAdventures Betters videos out there dude. She barely covers anything. Never take advice from someone just starting out. That guy was pretty good but best advice is go out and do it yourself. Watching a video doesn't improve you're game! Especially not from a novice
Jumping is my number 1 weakness I can do black and some double black tech trails but jumping is the one thing that scares me. This video really helped me with my jumping confidence. And is helping me improve thank you
Awesome! It is great that Beth is progressing like that! I hope to see more vids or her own channel
Thanks! Definitely more vids to come. I don’t think I can swing my own channel yet 😅🍻 - Beth
Thanks for an awesome video! I'm learning too and there are a lot of how too's but nothing as clear and concise as this. Great job Beth!
🤯 thank you! - Beth
What about jumping a hardtail? Not everyone has the luxury of just squashing their suspension to the floor 😂
More technique and skill on hardtail, I use hardtail because I want to go faster =)
Leg power is one thing, regular bunnyhop and using the bike nose is how I do it.
but this tutorial is pretty close.

@@lylaaxiom8750 I think full sus bikes to hardtail are like clipless pedals to flats; they take some of the skill out of riding and make it easier

Went to Mountain Creek, Killington and Trestle and just couldn't figure it out. Watched this video and the rear vs front compression differences really helped cause I kept bucking and it was in my head. Kept practicing and just this past weekend I cleared everything on Rainmaker (which btw is running super smooth rn). Thx!
I think the best tip I've heard on learning how to jump was to watch this video.

One of the best beginner jump video's I've seen, actually is quite a lot to remember especially if you havent been riding a long time, hard to know what you are doing wrong if you dont have someone to tell you/or see,you just know you'er doing it wrong. looks super easy when you know how.
Great vid congrates to you both, have subscribed
Awesome to hear Shane! You're totally right about jump progression -- it almost just *clicks* one day.
Shane Michael one doesn’t own the skills, one only borrows them. If you haven’t ridden for a while don’t think that you gonna continue where you left off.
Tip: Change your perspective. Don't think about what you are doing wrong. Think about what you are doing correctly. Each bit of correctness is a victory. Add more correctness until you get 100% correct. You may wonder, "What's the difference?" But if you follow my advice, you will discover that the difference is BIG.
Yesss. Always struggled with jumps. Cool vid!
Me too! Ben’s tips really helped! - Beth

Top 3 tips I have:
1) when I started learning how to jump, I was only pulling up. when someone says “all you have to do is pull up more!” that’s some wonky advice. the progression of the 5 steps you listed is key!
2) don’t get cold feet in the air. this leads to missing your pedals on the way to the ground and crashing or getting an ass-full of saddle. stay with the bike in the air when you’re first learning.
3) just relax. what’s the worst that could happen? you’re not gonna go OTB unless you do something super crazy. often times, the mistakes come when you’re tensed up, so as a comment above said, just flow with the bike.
this is all stuff I’ve garnered from experience. just figured I’d throw in my 10 cents to hopefully help someone else out
Great video Beth!! Both the jumping progression and the editing 😊. It's great to see more women MTBers on RUclips! Keep it up!!
