Billie Piper went to Sylvia Young Theatre School others who went there include Amy Winehouse & Dua Lipa.
First she became a singer but her ambition was always to act. At age 15 her debut song "Because We Want To" reached No1 in the UK charts & to this very day in 2024 she holds the UK record for youngest solo artist to debut at No1 🤯
After a fairly decent pop career she simply had enough & pursued acting opportunities ending her pop career.
Doctor Who brought her to a mainstream audience & she has continued acting on stage & screen, she's currently on Netflix starring in "Kaos" with Jeff Goldblum & she will be in "Wednesday" S2 with Jenna Ortega

The show has been playing since November 23rd, 1963. The day after JFK’s assassination, which you see in the first episode when Clive shows a picture.

In the Classic Series the doctor tells his companion, a girl called Ace, that these aliens can be seductive, and the alien takes the form of a woman so they were kinda hinting Ace was gay
(p.s. saw it on RUclips, not on tv i wasn't born yet)

Hi there! That was a fun watch. Kudos to you for actually paying attention and for pausing playback when you have something substantive to say.
I’m not going to comment about specific episodes-it’s been some time since you watched them and most of the comments would be unimportant (in terms of the larger picture) but there’s a few interesting things I think I can share.
First, Doctor Who is unofficially divided into three eras: Classic Who (1963-1989 plus a movie), New Who (2005-2021, you’re watching that now), and Disney Who (2023-, jointly produced by Disney & the BBC).
The Daleks, various monsters, the Doctor’s home-world and race, info about the TARDIS-often comes from more the 25 years of the classic Who history. Disclosing them is background, not spoilers (unless you plan to watch those old episodes…?)
Doctor Who was originally written for young(ish) children-but be of interest to their parents too. The stories always had two tiers, that double audience aspect. Often subtle. Good writing! Not, generally, fancy production-though New Who is light years ahead of Classic, and Disney (with that Disney budget) added a zero to the budget so as to compete with MCU, SW, ST and such.
DW also started out as a vehicle to introduce young viewers to important events in history in a thoughtful way. While that imperative has become far less urgent over time (!) elevation of learning and competence remained a high goal. But that *was* much more a classic Who thing though it still shows up now and then. Part of the show’s legacy!
I believe the Daleks were first introduced during Season 1, episode 2 of classic Who. Many other monsters also originated during Classic Who and were first dealt with with in earlier incarnations of the Doctor.
To be clear: in regeneration the Doctor’s body changes, he gets an entirely new personality with the regeneration BUT it’s the same soul, same memories, same values (though they evolve over time). Same mind? Yes & no. Intellect & way of thinking? Yes. Transient interests and quirks? No. Doctor #2 played the recorder. Doctor #5 wore s celery stalk instead of a flower. Doctor #4 carried a bag of jelly babies (which he freely offered to all and sundry) and wore a 16 foot long scarf. They never considered taking these up once regenerated into their next Doctor-but they remembered.
BTW, a suggestion: for your edification watch the very first DW episode “An Unearthly Child.” And a Doctor in the middle, perhaps the first DW episode of the Doctor who helmed the most seasons of any Doctor (7!)-Four, “Robot” with Sarah Jane. Not that these are the best, but they give you a taste (“Ghost Light” would be in the best category but down the road of picking Classic episodes madness lies…)
During the minisode you watched before the Christmas Invasion (which, technically, launched Season 2 as it is designated S2, E0) when the Doctor pushed the TARDIS to fly faster than is safe, a deep gong sound is heard. That’s the “cloister bell” deep within the TARDIS and is kind of the equivalent of an Emergency Alert signal and/or the TARDIS saying OUCH, that hurts.
This is a technical waggle: the Time Vortex is that miasma you see in the opening that the TARDIS travels through. The process is the TARDIS creates an opening into the vortex, propels the physical box in the right direction within the vortex (where, presumably, all times and spaces are accessed) and creates an opening where-and when-they arrive. Navigation (and interpretation) apparently require an intelligence, hence the TARDIS being alive. The Time Lords engineered some of their more sophisticated devices using “natural” intelligence rather than artificial (i.e. binary computer based) intelligence. The source of that intelligence was never defined but it was implied that it was grown, not captured or imprisoned. The source of the power that makes time travel possible is totally mind-blowing, but while it was first shown years ago it is buried deep in the TARDIS and isn’t a frequent stop. As it comes up again in the future I’ll say no more beyond the fact that the TARDIS has/needs multiple power systems to operate (I know of three, rift energy being one system).
The Time Lords were breathtakingly entitled. They were also disinclined to leave their home-world Gallifrey. The Doctor was a bold exception; he wasn’t the only one. In any case, the technical issue I referred to-at most (!) the TARDIS could create a window in Rose that *accessed* the time vortex and co-navigated of to the destination using Rose’s memories back to where the TARDIS left. But the window remained, and Rose had access to it-thus the story’s conclusion. But it’s important to note that it only happened because what Rose wanted and what the TARDIS wanted were perfectly aligned. Did Rose use the TARDIS or did the TARDIS use Rose? Which was cause and which was effect? Good writing. So why is the “time vortex running through Rose’s head?” Rose wasn’t in proximity-not connected-to the TARDIS, there’s nothing to close the window. Is it reasonable for the Doctor to be able to intervene? Yes (see next paragraph). But not how it was done. He should have brought Rose back into the TARDIS so the TARDIS could close the window. He would have seen the Time Vortex but there was nothing to transfer-it was just an opening, like a movable zipper. And if it killed the Doctor, why not Rose? Things got shaky here IF the goal was a regeneration scenario. But… like creating laws, don’t look too closely under the hood!
There is no magic as such in the DW universe, not on the part of the Doctor & companions (in a show that teaches science & history to kids? Though personally as a Tolkien nerd, I’d say fostering imagination is at least as important-but that’s me). That said, psychic skills are very much a part of the world. And the Doctor is capable of contact telepathy, a degree of general telepathy, and deep memory manipulation. Abilities he rarely demonstrates since he believes in free will and non-violence, thus he persuades. Or at least tries to.
Let’s see: *I* want to know, have you watched Torchwood yet or do you just know of it? If the latter, my advice is to wait until after Season three or better still, four. DW leaves little breadcrumbs about Torchwood here and there and the alert viewer learns things along the way. As seasons go by you accumulate knowledge. (Waiting until after season two is absolutely essential-after three highly recommended. Season four less essential prelims, just finishes background disclosures via breadcrumb).”
Sarah Jane. She was a companion to Doctors 3 and 4. Yes, the series is geared more to younger kids-but it isn’t cartoonish. Watch the first episode and judge for yourself. I was going to suggest waiting until you watched the first half of season 2 but you already have so you know why. There’s another spinoff, Class, that you should stay away from for now. Far away. It’s not bad (except for the ending about which I’d get colorfully vulgar-for a nickel) as it’s introduced by the 12th Doctor. It’s a YA show with HS protagonists. The tone is DW at its most PG-13 (that’s a Bible Belt R). Keep it on hold until you catch up.
I follow a handful of Who reactors and really didn’t want to add another but you charmed your way into my, er, collection? That doesn’t sound right-but thanks for the fun reacting. Looking forward to the next season!

What I love about this reboot is that it is a continuation of the Classic 60s show but with a big skip in the Doctors personal timeline.
So when they talk about the Time War classic fans were just as in the dark as new fans.
Cleverly certain Classic episodes have been recontectualised as the catalyst for the Time War.

Loving your reactions! I know you filmed this ages ago and are well into Series 2 and may have one already but I did want to encourage you to get a moderator for your comment section because Doctor Who fans are notoriously bad with spoilers and hints. People think they’re being subtle and clever when they’re just giving spoilers. So I’d say if at all possible, try to get one. I know it can be hard.
Spoilers in reaction videos are one of my biggest pet peeves, because what even is the point of the reaction if people get everything spoiled.
I think particularly with the show because it has been around so long and because people I think are prone to misremembering what parts of the lore are known at what times, it truly is a hub of spoilers. Because it has such a rich history people get so excited and just continually spoil and I see it all the time. And then there are also other people who just enjoy spoiling things for others. 😭
Wishing you as spoiler-free a journey as possible ✨

@@BillyKearneyReacts It's only 30 mins really without the acting recap but it's a fascinating look back at how she broke though into singing in the late 90s. I think many Who fans are shocked about her singing because she's put sooo much distance from it but it's where she started.

I'm fairly sure you are already aware now but Russell T Davies the writer amd showrunner on the first few seasons was a Buffy fan and was definitely influenced by that and Angel. You mentionedt the cast probably had a lot of fun in the first season actually there were a few issues behind the scenes with how people were treated which is one of the reasons Chris Eccelston left the show. RTD has write some sublime drama including Its a Sin ' Queer as folk (uk original) and Years and Years.
