Purchased a FYM60HD in March 2024. Bottom line- its your 'does everything guitar'. As per Alamo, its extremely precise, with amazing sustain; one thing they don;t mention - if you hit those strings hard, it strums as loud as a dreadnought. Alvarez has stated they'll run out of the 50 yr old mahogany this yr, so grab it now
The DYM60HD is the finest guitar I ever played. I was hellbent on getting a D-18. It has been a childhood dream of mine. One strum on the Yairi and I couldn't take my wallet out fast enough.
You did it!!!! I was commenting asking you to review the DYM60HD. I bought one a few months ago and love it. I can’t wait to watch this tonight. I just gasped out loud when I saw the name of this video because I’m so pumped. My wife does not share my enthusiasm.
I do Mike! My ‘90 Yairi WY1 was my go to guitar for 20+ years. Still plays and sounds great especially plugged in. Now I too have a DYM60HDE. With pickup. I have to pinch myself every time I play it. I’d love to get the all mahogany OM. 👍🏼😃
I've owned a 1990 Yairi DY-77 for 34 years and it is a wonderful instrument. I always like that Yairi has been a bit of an unknown value in the American market and hard to find, but I think that is starting to change. I've been lusting after one of the DYM60HD's since they came out a few years ago, but even at the bargain price for so much guitar, I haven't been able to justify buying it...always seems to be something of a higher priority demanding my money. Glad you guys like these guitars. I'm sure they won't gather any dust hanging on your wall.
I understand budgets don’t always allow for purchases like that, but if it isn’t going to hurt you in anyway I’d pull the trigger. This is the last year of full production for the old growth mahogany. I got one a couple of months ago and in my opinion you would not regret the purchase one bit.
This video makes me very happy! As a owner of two red spruce (a.k.a. Adirondack)/mahogany guitars, which sing and break all preconceived notions about mahogany, it's great to hear Chris say that. I do also have an Alvarez from the '70s stamped "Made in Japan." It is kinda a special dreadnought.
Holy smokes Alvarez. Yairi ❤❤❤ these sound so beautiful in this podcast! Alvarez! These boys deserve a treat. They're gonna sell a lotta lotta these for you. ❤❤❤ Cooper, you bring out the finest sound from whatever you play, but on this particular show you excelled. They are so pretty. I have these saved in many wishlists. I love solid mahogany, but I must agree with Chris from Alvarez on the Adirondack mahogany. ❤❤❤ I need more money. 😂❤❤❤ Thank you Chris and Cooper!
I own one of the fym60hd models. It's the best most enjoyable guitar I have ever played. I've played it almost everyday for two years. It has the fst2 bracing and was built to the specifications of Jack Pearson. The body is not as deep as the new fst6 bracing model. However, Jack Pearson had a shoulder issue and needed a less deep body. So anyone , especially if you are older, the original model will probably be more comfortable to play. And the fst2 model will always be the original Honduran story guitars. It is made of the original Honduran mahogany that Mr H. Yairi set aside and naturally cured for approximately 50 years. Mr Yairi's treasure will be gone soon. Some fst6 models will have the older Honduran mahogany. The rest will have newer Mahogany and will be made that way as long as these guitar models are built. If you can get your hands on an original fst2 Honduran guitar, don't let it go. These guitars will be the ones that guitar lovers will be looking for years from now.
I recently was lucky enough to bring home a 91 Yairi classical, and I’m in love with it. It resonates and sings like nothing else. I’d love to check out some of their steel strings too. The wood in these guitars is really something special. Not to mention their superb craftsmanship. The story behind them is so cool too. Yairi are 100% very special instruments and still under appreciated in my opinion!
Nice to see the Yairi fanclub out 😄 Happy to join youse soon. Scored a slightly used DYM60 yesterday off Reverb, pretty chuffed! I own its litle sister the MD60BG masterworks, well, two actually, and I am guessing this will be quite the upgrade!
Both sound amazing, but when you played the dread I feel like I can hear every single string ring out without any one string stomping on the rest. I don't know what to compare this to, almost magical sounding. That type of clarity would probably sound like crap with my butcher playing but your playing sounded perfect. Nice.
Great guitar. We went to Yairi in April. Holy Grail. Found my DYM74 on Alamo site. SN indicates it was being crafted when we were there. Magnificent instruments
Do you have the DYM74 now? I ask, because I ordered mine from Alamo music in March and received it in late May. Wonder what you think of the Redwood top, the tone, build quality, etc.
I own both of these guitars and the all mahogany FYM66HD. I went crazy on these Yairi guitars with no regrets. I love them all. Yairi and Yamaha are building some of the best acoustic guitars out there these days.
I was guitar shopping and narrowed down the DYM60HD and the D18. The Yairi has a lot more low end & it sort of rings like a bell when you play it. I had to buy it.
these sound incredible, man I cant decide if I like teh dread as its the best sounding dred on the market or the ooo, because the 000 is potentially more balanced overall but the dread just sounds stupid good.
Sounding really good there Cooper. Ive got that guitar and its one of the very best guitar voices out there. I feel so lucky to have such a special guitar for only $3000 when its actually about a $7000 Guitar.
I have DYM60HD and it commands the room. It’s truly like a piano. The only way you’re finding a better guitar is to drop more than $5,000 in my opinion. I have 2 Yairis and they’re both wonderful. That said if you’re looking for an instrument of this caliber in sound and build at more of a working man’s cost I’d also check out the Alvarez Laureate series. I have an LF70 that is out of this world. Different beast, but same ball park in quality.
Sounds as good as any Santa Cruz or Collings I've ever heard and I own 2 of each. That OM sounds incredible, extremely balanced sound. Considering a Santa Cruz in Old Growth Mahogany with upgraded top is like 16k new now, Collings is twice the price, this is definitely on my radar if I can find a cutaway version OM. I expect both of these will sell very soon.
I have 4 Santa Cruz and 2 Alvarez Yairi (and another one in the custom shop), not to mention a bunch of Martins, Lowdens and a new favorite the Anuenue LS700. The Alvarez Yairis are equal to the best of these and are amongst the best guitars available anywhere.
I bought a Furch yellow series OM three years ago. Thought it was the best guitar I had ever played. I bought the Alveraz Yairi fym60hd two years ago. Sold the Furch just before Thanksgiving this year. No complaints about the Furch. It is a well made guitar. Better than a Taylor in my opinion. But the O found myself playing the Fym60hd everyday while the Furch stayed in the case. Is is just more comfortable and fun to play. Plus the Adirondack top made strumming sound better. The Furch had a western red cedar top. Great for fingerstyle. But the Fym60hd is just as good for that too. The one thing I liked better about the Furch was the Koa binding and the case the guitar came with. But the Fym60hd had a richer sound and more comfortable playability.
I had a Furch Yellow and thought it was the best guitar I ever played. Bought a Alveraz Yairi fym60hd and after two years I sold the Furch. Both are outstanding guitars. But the Fym60hd was better all around guitar. The Furch had a cedar top and the fym60hd is just a cleaner, louder strumming guitar. Plus fingerstyle sounded just as good on it. Can't go wrong with either. But if you get a Furch I would suggest a spruce top for all around playability.
Get your fine sounding guitars and stand up, stand up for your rights. Don´t live for the sake of materialism and money (and sex and drugs). Remember: We are artists!
Yep, its deceptively shallow when you see it, and light when you pick it up, BUT: . I have the OM FYM60HD (with the new FST6 bracing) =-and when I hit those strings hard, its easily as loud as my Guild D-55 dread

Fantastic playing as always Cooper! I have the dreadnaught version on this instrument and it truly is a stellar instrument.

@@markseelye8270 Nice!! Does yours come with the HiFi system? I need to get that for mine. And the OM is SO tempting.

Very happy with the FYM66HD I just bought from you guys !
How do you like it? How does it compare to other oms?
Also you guys are starting to become some of my favorite content to watch! Keep em coming.

Years from now...After WW3 and civil war...

great review, finally, of the DYM60HD. I purchased it a couple of years ago. So good.

Awesome.
Thank you Gentleman, you are awesome!
How does something sound both as rich and warm AND as clear and defined as these do for a little over $3k. Chills.
The only guitar that I have ever played that sounds a little better then these guitars is my Boucher SG51 which you can find at around $4000.
Both guitars sound fantastic. For whatever reason, I would like to hear the dreadnought compared to a standard D18 and Fg9.
As an FG9 owner, I’d like to see that also.
I was guitar shopping and narrowed down the DYM60HD and the D18. The Yairi has a lot more low end & it sort of rings like a bell when you play it. I had to buy it.
Hey Guys ..
Beautiful guitars ..
Could ye do a comparison with these and the Yamaha Fs9's ..
FYM60HD ..no more! perfect sounds!
That dread sounds unreal
these sound incredible, man I cant decide if I like teh dread as its the best sounding dred on the market or the ooo, because the 000 is potentially more balanced overall but the dread just sounds stupid good.

It’s clear what company is stepping up their social media game. Suddenly Yari is everywhere…
Yairi
@@Pedro91795 those too
I want an Alverez more than i want a Taylor or Martin. Fact.
I had the pleasure of owning one of these and the best description I have is the sound is like a Steinway. Overtone for days.

Guitarist John Comier said these 2 guitars also have necks that are a tiny bit wider with more space between the strings which is very cool.
More guitars should have wider necks
I really like that dym60hd, I'd consider buying it but chose to go with a hd28 three weeks ago, but if i did it again
Bought a parlor size🎶🎵😱🤗

YA-YA-YAAAAA!!!
Fantastiche
Which strings are on these, please
great
What gauge strings does the fym60hd come with? I found a used one with 12s but changed them to 11s,11s seem looser with a little less low end.
They come with 12s. D'DarrioXT
They sound about like any other high end guitar where a luthier spent more time optimizing the tone.
can you compare an alvarez yairi with a furch guitar?

Somewhere Monte Montgomery is smiling.

Those don't look like very deep sound boxes.

I think they actually made them even deeper this year if I’m remembering correct.
These almost sound like rosewood. I don't hear the sharpness that I do with a D-18 or 000-18
Overly bright and brittle sounding similar to taylor. And it's sounding it's going to explode
