I often found the simplest way to increase your odds of getting a one hit kills with the Centurion is to be focusing on an objective that specifically requires you to get assist kills instead. Almost every time I have that objective and decided to play Britain, I keep finding myself one shotting most enemies (either by hitting their ammo or catching to front section in just the right position for the shrapnel cone to actually get all crew members) and get far fewer assists than I was hoping for as a result.
I kid you not, I got 8 assists and one kill while playing the British Centurion 1 and that lightly armored 84mm thing- the conqueror? That match was still fun but I got absolutely nothing from it.
The Conway is a joke.... if you've used that... I've gotten 3 shells in a row on a flat side of a tank just to get shell shattered... its 487mm of pen just to get 0 damage.... then a 50s reload every time ⏲..... the best part is when the shell does go through it does nothing to crews or key parts.... I've hit ammo racks and crew just for it be shrugged off.... kind of amusing.... yet APHE has less pen and just 1 hits you everytime.
4:50 The Centurion's mobility was optimized for good maneuverability, top speed wasn't seen as very important (Agility was to be about equal to that of the Comet). The fuel consumption wasn't actually that high, its low operational range is more a result of its relatively small fuel tanks. Other petrol powered tanks with similar engines used about the same amount of fuel but often carried more of it (546 liters vs 760 liters on the M48). As for the ingame performance the top speed isn't that much of a downside in my opinion, most tanks at the BR usually don't go much faster offroad anyway. It only gets a little annoying when you're in a downhill locked to 34 km/h while everyone else zooms past with longer gear ratios.
I find it funny that basically everyone else I've watched make a video on this tank kept getting into full downtiers some even stating that as an advantage of the tank, and then there's Spookston, who just keeps getting uptiered.
Yeah it's weird, it is just barely in the range of the german 5.3 blackhole so it should still be getting downtiers, During my playtime with the IS-2 and the mod 44 I barely saw the 100sp spawn cost. What would you think of nerfing APHE so it would explode in a cone to close the gap between it and solid shot by a little? I think it would be a good change since it would require more careful aim and remove some instakill weakspots which shouldn't work, and it's also realistic since most APHE rounds don't contain enough explosives to actually nullify the forward momentum of the shell fragments. I think it would also be good to make fuzes work unreliably on angled armor, as was often the case in reality, premature detonation would also be realistic but probably too frustrating.
@@tm1182 Can you elaborate on your point a little? I'd be interested to hear why you think that, because at the moment APHE is a little too forgiving in therms of shot placement in my opinion, since you could literally hit an empty spot on a tank and one shot it because the shell explodes in a full sphere. It also makes no sense from a balance standpoint that APHE is literally just better than solid shot in every way, especially considering some tanks (British and French) don't even have the option for APHE. Compare the 5.3 AC IV in the british tree to the Panther D in the German tree for example. The Panther is arguably undertiered anyway, but look at their guns, both have about the same pen but the Panther gets APHE and therefore has much more reliable damage output. There's also the fact that sometimes solid shot just refuses to spall at all, making it even worse. It should also be noted that the British stopped using APHE after the 2 pdr gun because they found that it caused little to no extra damage compared to solid shot while also having a chance of premature detonation.
@@hawkstable8889 it doing "too little damage to justify the cost" makes sense IRL, because a solid shot penetration or an aphe penetration would both take the tank off the battlefield IRL. I don't think they should nerf the APHE in game because I think the realistic solution would be to buff apds and solid shot, I run mainly centurions @7.3 and my APDS sometimes does literally nothing when it pens. No spall, just straight through, happened a few days ago on a leo 1 side shot. A 9 pound metal dart going 3-4k FPS penetrating armor sounds like it should always spall to me. The other thing I disagree with is the shot placement being too forgiving, mainly because when I use APDS i find that due to projectile size I run into far fewer volumetric issues than when I use APHE, especially larger caliber APHE that gets caught on everything with volumetric. A very slight buff to apds and solid shot would be the solution that I believe would fix the problem without ruining things for others who play APHE centric tech trees.
Horrible idea honestly. Making a shell do less damage doesn't make the game more fun for anyone, and you should never make a game less fun because "muh realism" (volumetric shells was such a great addition am i right). There is a very simple solution which would make the game more balanced and more fun for everybody and that's to just buff the spall on solid to the point where you actually have to think if the penetration trade off is worth the little bit of extra damage. What you're suggesting could have the effect of making APHE practically useless, which absolutely noone wants.
spookston i recommend you to play the chinese type 63 at 6.3 which is effectively a worse pt76 in every aspect but best shell and better aphe and a little more top speed at 1.3 br higher
Interesting, I personally find 6.3 to be the most frequent BRs to get downtiered in. So many vehicle line-ups exist at 5.3 which is why I assume there must be a suck up in that bracket.
As a British player the fact they made the caernarvan, cent mk3 and fv4202 go from 6.3 to 7.3. All because bias and jerry mains started crying on reddit about how "overpowered" they were. Ruined the british faction for me Now im facing ERA plated tanks, ceramic armour'd tanks. All that fun stuff and im literally just using a stabilized 20 pounder. Yes, you're very correct, the 20 pounder DOES get apds, is it good? No way lmao, most times it will just shatter or not pen at all even on front 100mm plates, making it very useless to even run in the first place Id really enjoy this game more if gaijoob stopped catering to the bias addicts and jerry wehraboos, the british faction was completely balanced (and completely terrible) but had a shining light which was the 6.3 tier 4 lineup. Then gaijoob bent the knee
The uptier on 6.3 is Common because 7.3 is a place for a lot of tanks: Leo1, BMP1, Cent 3, M48A1, T32, Marder probably, T54 51 or 47/49, etc. Other trees have these tanks too

APDS got nerfed HARD. it used to be a pretty meta tool, now the damage is actually way worse than HEAT after penetration. it makes no sense. As well as still consistently dissapearing on 20mm armor like the ZSU57 and shattering on flat armour randomly, some times it also does not shrapnel and turns like 70 degrees for no reason.

I just put 2 APDS into a tiger2P. Perfect side shots into the turret ammorack and both were non pen😅 I might just start using the coaxial as primary as it's more reliable than APDS
7:00 You can, or could pen a KT with the 40mm on the duster and M19, only it was the rear of the turret ring and you had to be point blank and dead level with the gap uder the rear bussell. But it could be done and I have done it. You can't do it on the KT (P) or the KT105.
Since playing British I have been up tiered every single game. Most tanks I cannot pen from any angle and I’ve pretty much just had to start using the concept 3 to scout targets and use arty for kills in order to get research
6:57 Technically it can pen the King Tiger. Ever used SAPHE from an m22 on the rear of the turret's turret ring? Almost always ammo racks. All he'd need to do is use AP then go tracks then back.
(This is mostly just extra info for the audience) I don't know if this is on purpose but the dispersion may be because of the round. In real life, the APDS for the 17 pounder was notoriously inaccurate since it was really a brand new advancement in the field and one of the first APDS rounds. I think they were told not to use them past 600 or 800 yards.
Always makes my day to see a new video of yours get posted Spookston, you suffer a lot in this game to make such quality entertainment for us so the very least you deserve is appreciation for it! The reason the Centurion consumed so much fuel relative to top speed is because it had very high torque. While it had limited strategic mobility, the vehicle was exceptional off-road and in mountainous terrain where gradients were bad and the ground was uneven, giving it exceptional tactical mobility compared to contemporary T48s and T-54s

What you're suggesting could have the effect of making APHE practically useless, which absolutely noone wants.
love the art of thumbnail creation. GOOD TANK
spookston i recommend you to play the chinese type 63 at 6.3 which is effectively a worse pt76 in every aspect but best shell and better aphe and a little more top speed at 1.3 br higher
I freaking lost it when the t34 plowed I to the train car and you put the metal clang sound in. Wasn't prepare for that lolololol
Interesting, I personally find 6.3 to be the most frequent BRs to get downtiered in. So many vehicle line-ups exist at 5.3 which is why I assume there must be a suck up in that bracket.
That and 6.7 is always pulled into 7.7 matches.
there are so many vehicles at 7.3 too
Yo i just found your channel a few days ago and ur already one of my favorite war thunder YTers keep up the good work
Chi-Ha Kai please! (You did say it was one of your favourite tanks in WT) Also: do a review on La Royale update!
6:03 bro shit his pants
Hey Spook, are ya gonna play and have a vid on the new French Meme cannon when it comes out? For all 10 of us french mains?
As a British player the fact they made the caernarvan, cent mk3 and fv4202 go from 6.3 to 7.3. All because bias and jerry mains started crying on reddit about how "overpowered" they were. Ruined the british faction for me
Now im facing ERA plated tanks, ceramic armour'd tanks. All that fun stuff and im literally just using a stabilized 20 pounder.
Yes, you're very correct, the 20 pounder DOES get apds, is it good? No way lmao, most times it will just shatter or not pen at all even on front 100mm plates, making it very useless to even run in the first place
Id really enjoy this game more if gaijoob stopped catering to the bias addicts and jerry wehraboos, the british faction was completely balanced (and completely terrible) but had a shining light which was the 6.3 tier 4 lineup. Then gaijoob bent the knee
Spookston can you do Katyusha next pls I have been asking for so long
The uptier on 6.3 is Common because 7.3 is a place for a lot of tanks: Leo1, BMP1, Cent 3, M48A1, T32, Marder probably, T54 51 or 47/49, etc. Other trees have these tanks too
Ah, Chally 2s and Centurions. Giving the UK tree the same phenomenon as shermans in the US tree.
If it ain't broke
@@sampackman69 brooooo... What brokeness you talking about? U afraid that the 1 person on the world playing britain for once mught enjoy a slightly overperforming vehicle?
Ppl afraid too much of britain while getting constantly shot by ZSU SPAAs
@@chomp5558 huh?
APDS got nerfed HARD. it used to be a pretty meta tool, now the damage is actually way worse than HEAT after penetration. it makes no sense.
As well as still consistently dissapearing on 20mm armor like the ZSU57 and shattering on flat armour randomly, some times it also does not shrapnel and turns like 70 degrees for no reason.
play the SU-100Y because it would be interesting to see you play that fridge
Starting the day with a Spookston upload
Spookston you should try the strv 81 (rb 52) it's just a strv 81 but with 3 atgms from the worst Japanese atgm carrier
Hey spookston you are sounding particularly soul-shattered this morning
Speaking of British tanks, mind doing a video on the British striker ,please spook😉
I think he would have a stroke playing either the Swingfire or the Striker
He hated the Type 60 and there not to different. The missiles are faster and they get early night vision, but that's about it
Still very fun to play though
@@sampackman69 The strikers missile can turn crazily though compared to the Swingfire. Also I wish to watch spook suffer >:)
@@rileyfitzsimons8875 fair point
1:16 yeah… I’ve had Marders live 20pdr APDS to the front because spall = no and 50% of the time the round just disappears
Give it a month till it’s 7.3 for no reason
It's British so yeah
1:36 this is the snail's doing, the hate of CAS flows through you
"Close only counts with horseshoes, hand grenades, and tactical nuclear weapons."
"And Sturmtiger shells!"

the video title: When Britain Finally Makes A Good Tank
the content of the video: spookston slowly falling into despair and insanity.
A full stab at 6.3 is absolutely brutal. It's going to get popped up to 7.0, there's no doubt in my mind.
the full stab isnt that good, due to the tank its on but it should probably go to 6.7
Bruh. As if stabilizer changes anything, when even when you get tge first shot of you die anyways. Its 3 options you have with overpowered britsg vehicles: Shooz gunner, target will dtive off. Shoot driver, target will kill you. Shoot ammorack, it gos yellow and you die anyway.
3:18 ejector seat test for ground vehicles. left hand side of screen
Also i got constant downtiers with 6.3 Tiger 2 and 76 Jumbo. I get like 75% downtiers in those.
This thing was insane at 6.3. Helped me grind through so much Britain.
hello its me, the first guy you killed with the centurion mk2. man the whole squadron was laughing at me.
I just put 2 APDS into a tiger2P. Perfect side shots into the turret ammorack and both were non pen😅 I might just start using the coaxial as primary as it's more reliable than APDS
spookston, that twitchy finger thing means your arm muscles are tense. You oughta massage and tend to them and the twitchiness will disappear.
3:32 the moment spookston blew his cover as a damn goblin
what a beautiful intro really epitomises the uk
Love the unloved M47 Patton day 5
i love shooting 120mm apds in the side for leo1 and it just shattering twice in a row so fun
7:00 You can, or could pen a KT with the 40mm on the duster and M19, only it was the rear of the turret ring and you had to be point blank and dead level with the gap uder the rear bussell.
But it could be done and I have done it.
You can't do it on the KT (P) or the KT105.
I don't care what im doing. if i see a new spookston video i must watch
someone needs to make a compilation of spooks videos of everytime he says unfortunate.
*_"WHERE IS MY TEAM?!?!"_*
how have you not realized by now that teamwork is super rare in this game and everyone just kinda does their own thing...
The Semovente 90/53 M41M! It's lovely and a wonderful TD to play even when up-tiered!

Your use of half-life 2 sounds is on point, and I applaud you for it sir
(This is mostly just extra info for the audience) I don't know if this is on purpose but the dispersion may be because of the round. In real life, the APDS for the 17 pounder was notoriously inaccurate since it was really a brand new advancement in the field and one of the first APDS rounds. I think they were told not to use them past 600 or 800 yards.
Always makes my day to see a new video of yours get posted Spookston, you suffer a lot in this game to make such quality entertainment for us so the very least you deserve is appreciation for it! I'm a big Centurion fan personally but I can very much see and understand why none of its variants are the type of tank you like yourself, so hearing that the Cent Mk. 2 isn't an unmitigated disaster in your opinion is excellent news considering I'm trying to grind as far as I can for it before restoring to GE so as to not drive myself insane lmao
As for suggestions since it's practically ritual for comments at this point, I'd be interested to see what you think of the Japanese STA series tanks, and the Type 61 they're prototypes for - they're clearly inspired by bits and pieces of the M41 and the M46, and it results in a bit of a curious set of hybrids that are distinctly American-styled and yet not quite the same either.
I want to see Spookston play the M3 halftracks. The 76mm American or the 57mm russian one, they're so fun to die to CAS, artillery and .50 cals!
1:36
I think there's a joke here to be made about soldiers and being unable to control trigger fingers, but I can't quite pulled it off.
Centurion mk3 was a good tank at 6.7, but since they moved it to 7.3, the British tech tree is ended for me
and now they make another Centurrion that has stab at 6.3 (stab was the reason why the Mk3 was moved to 7.3)
I used your creator code gotta support the people who give us entertainment
"Where is my team???" = "I didn't pay attention to the map and now I'm isolated"
APDS is in a fine state, thank you snail.
Dear god please fix it, my sanity is on the line
0:25 I swear I saw "money well spent" caption when I watched it for the first time.
Spookston, you should maybe do a throwback video of the “everything wrong with” series, I watched pretty much all of them when I first started watching your channel a while ago and would be interested in seeing at least one more! Thanks for the great content
It gets me that Spook cares more about missing the shot, then why his finger is twitching 🤣
I've been feeling the pain with my Conqueror's APDS.
I think my biggest frustration when playing games is my arm will start shackin when aiming and I will miss by overcorrecting.
Spookston the mighty. Humbler of the germans. I beseech you. Play the sherman firefly. I have humbly requested for you to use it in a video 38 times by.
Average Spookston commentary in his videos has more intensity and urgency than upcoming new polish crew voices

17 Pounder irl- one of the most powerful guns in allied forces during WW2 known from its accuracy and high round velocity
17 pounder in WT- gun dispersion is bigger than 18th century musket
17pdr APDS was known for poor accuracy beyond 500m due to improper separation of the sabot (partly because of collisions with the muzzle brake). Otherwise, the 17pdr is unnecessarily shafted in game.
Finally a good tank? How DARE you sir! The crusader was a fine tank! I shall write a letter to the king himself to protest this video from this Spookston Rapscallion!
Lately I kept having games where the enemy always have more planes even when my teams are winning, too 😫
