Just struggled with trying to get my filter off for the past 30 minutes. I never would have thought your intro magic would solve my problem. You are full of surprises Peter, and for that I thank you
Additional pro-tip for smooth panning: When you already have your elastic bands with you, throw one of them around the monopod handle and use the band to pull the handle and pan it. Totally takes out any non-smooth movements
I literally just purchased a Sirui yesterday (waiting for it to arrive in a few days) ! I follow you Pete almost religiously & this post it so timely ! The fact that YOU say a monopod is so important gives my so much piece of mind on my purchase ! 😊 I bought my first DSLR about a year ago. Now I’m shooting ads & weddings (highlights) and I’m so busy & I credit so much of what I know to YOU. Thank you man. I really enjoy this craft 👌🏽 I have so much to learn but this journey is 🙌🏽.
Pete you’re making the kind of videos worth waiting to watch when you can really pay attention. This is the kind of stuff decades later people will still be amazed. Thanks for staying true to what you do and not falling into the trap of making the same generic everybody does garbage so many tubers have. You the man!
Love that you didn't give up on your home studio! It's like a throwback... wait can you start a throwback Thursday?! maybe like refer back to old videos like a camera hacks part 2!
Thats because everyone is going on holidays, more time online... Just the same way that he talks a lot a manages to get 3 ads on his videos. This Guy... Super clever, love him
Hey Peter! I just wanted to take a moment to give you some positive specific feedback. I remember seeing your videos pop up in my "recommended" section, and I watched a few thinking they were cool, but I wouldn't use your advice. Those were due to some of your videos highlighting ways to stand out on instagram. While I use instagram, it is really just a bunch of shots of my dogs. Anyway, as time went on, RUclips kept recommending your videos, and I kept peeking in on them. I started to realize that you are much more than just instagram tips, and your passion, energy, and humor have kept me coming back for each new video you publish. I am digging the little magic tricks you fit into the intros now. The level of care you put in on every video really shows, and I absolutely love what you are doing. So, I just wanted to say thank you. Your fan, from the U.S. city directly north of Canada, -Jimi
I don't comment often on your videos because they are packed with info that there are no more questions to ask, but the magic tricks at the beginning, great start!
I literally went out and bought an ND after your other video & then bought a monopod for my concert photos. but dang you're just a bundle of info! from every creator that watches you.THANK YOU
Thank you kindly for the daily wisdom, positive motivation & information Pete. Sincerely appreciate it, as I'm sure most can agree! From a neighbour in Niagara Falls, ON. Cheers duder!
can we vlog on a video monopod? just picked up one recently, so far loving the fluid movements. i still need to clock in more hours on using it. i just only used it for the horizontal pan 😂 i bought this one first as it was way cheaper than a gorillapod.
Something I do is leave all of the locks on the height adjustment loose, then use the monopod as a guide to do a nice smooth up and down move. You can do a nice smooth Jib like movement that way if you practice a little.
Hi mate. I put my camera down about 5 years ago as work became to hectic and I couldn’t find time for a hobby I loved. Watching your videos has made me pick it up again and rekindle that love of photography I had forgotten! Thanks for the inspiration.
I am fairly new to your channel and I just want to thank you! You are a great guy, not only insanely good in photography but your personality just make this channel so unique and incredible!!! You deserve everything and so much more. Well done!
4:23 Actually you shouldnt use that to introduce more friction/resistance to tilts. That is a tilt lock. More expensive fluidheads come with a tilt lock and a separate switch to change the amont of friction. If you use tilt lock to get more friction it wears down the mechanism and may break even break the thing.
My son and I love watching your videos Pete! We both just sit down while he drinks his milk. Oh he’s only 4 months but he’s always so relaxed watching your videos 😃
Hey bro! I love your videos no matter what they are. Vlogs, tutorials, old office, new office. Everything from your videos, whatever it is, I always learn from. I'm here for the long run and you got my full support. 👌🏼
I have the same monopod. Can't live without it. My first Manfrotto broke after 6 years. Bought a Benro to replace it. That only lasted 6 months. Back to a Monfrotto. Happiness. I'm going to try some of these techniques! Thanks!
Great stuff, Pete! Been considering getting a monopod for a while now and this just made me question why I never went through with it. Definitely gonna have to add it to the arsenal. Lovin’ these magic intros too!
I bring the vlogs back, people want tutorials. I make tutorials, people want vlogs. I film at the office, people want my home office. I film at home office, people want to see the office. LOL. So I just do whatever I want, cause, well, that's the whole point of this right? ;)
Haha 😂😂Totally Agreed! I should say that u r doing a great job keeping up the flow! and P.S. Don't always do what the fans want because u might not enjoy doing it. Like make videos where its comfortable for u! Who am i kidding, I'm giving advice to PETER! OMG I'm Sorry LOL, U inspire me soooooooo much! and Im JUST sitting here GETTING EXCITED ABOUT THE FACT THAT PETER MCKINNON REPLIED TO MY COMMENT FOR THE SECOND TIME! Thank u Peter, U made my day (even though its night 😂)
I have the same Manfrotto monopod. Two things I don't like is that the head (the one that came with the monopod) does only up and down, not left and right, and that the feet are to short to keep the monopod standing on it's own, even just for a little while, always need to find a place to lean it against. There are other monopods with larger feet. Also after sticking the pod in sea water, the feet corroded very quickly. :)
This is,by far,the best mono-pod video I've ever seen. Great tips, Peter. Great video as usual, but really found this useful. Another thing about turning a tripod into a mono-pod, if you have the highly flexible ones you can use one of the two free legs, or both, as stabilising handles. My manfroto has a lock off head so you can get those directional tilts. Does not work with a ball head. Cheers
I was looking at getting a gimbal for quite a while now, and just barely saved up enough for it. But as soon as I finished watching this, I knew I should just get this monopod instead. It looks like most of the movements I want can be achieved with this anyway, and I get to spend a fraction of that! So I'm really thankful for this video!
Peter I’ve been watching you for some time now and I absolutely love everything you do, I’ve learned a lot from watching your videos and it truly has helped me take better shots and sparked my curiosity for video production. Thank you so much for your content it’s always a pleasure to watch and learn!
What i love about these tip videos with simple tools like this monopod: it shows where you came from and how you developed into the powerhouse you are today! Thanks for teaching Peter!
I have learned so much from you and am always entertained while it happens. College would have been a lot smoother if others could or would have done the same. I can only say that I have owned this monopod for about a year and have NEVER been allowed to carry it on a flight. I use it when I'm home but have had to carry a smaller model when I travel. I recently purchased a larger bag for check in so that this one fits. The feet, ball-joint and fluid head make all the difference. It's an awesome tool. Thank again for this video and all the rest. You are a great teacher and an inspiration.
Awesome video Peter! I just realized you posted this on my birthday! I told myself I wouldn't buy stuff on black Friday and 10 minutes after watching this video I'm looking at: "your order has been placed"
Can u imagine that some of us don't really care about your video content, but are just there to ear a "what'sup" an your intro B-roll... dammned good job dude :)
Hey Peter, a little teflon lubricant, wax or any dry lubricant on those filter threads will prevent then from ever sticking again. Threads should never go on a lens dry. Cheers!
This video is very useful to me as I just got my first monopod last week. Almost purchased this Manfrotto model but at the end I went with Sirui. Thanks for this, I love the low shot!
Really appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos Pete. I keep saying, you're a born natural at what you do. Good onya mate and thanks a heap. :)
Always look forward to your videos. You are a legend. Partially inspired by your videos to get into filmmaking. What inspires me mostly is your story and your skill in storytelling. Smashed it!
Please don't stop doing these magic tricks for your intros. So good.
Nick True - MappedOutMoney Agree 😂👌

Hi
Thank you
I really need to know how he does that!!! Seriously!!
For sure, a little bit of Magic is always appreciated! :]
Forget the actual content of this video (which is still great by the way) but your vibe is awesome, brother. I’m learning a lot and loving it. Cheers
Filming someone named Monica with Mono using a monopod with a monochrome profile on a monorail would be funny :) K I'm done. bye
while doing some monologue
ohhhhh helloooo peteye petey you inspire me !
And eating a Monaco.
Peter McKinnon wassup Inspiration 🤩🤗
Don't be a M-acist Peter..

Yes I definitely need but my bank account doesn't allow it LMAO
Exactly.
TechRadicalTv you and me both!
I don't even have a bank account.
Lensman Neeraj alright man you win! Lol
Ain't fancy but the first one I used was a amazon essentials monopod for $19
Pete you’re making the kind of videos worth waiting to watch when you can really pay attention. This is the kind of stuff decades later people will still be amazed. Thanks for staying true to what you do and not falling into the trap of making the same generic everybody does garbage so many tubers have. You the man!
You don't mention anywhere what monopod you're using.
Yeah, and the description has been updated so the links below are no longer.
Damn 😅
@@ByAndyGray looks like a Manfrotto MVMXPRO500US XPRO Aluminum Video Monopod
Love that you didn't give up on your home studio! It's like a throwback... wait can you start a throwback Thursday?! maybe like refer back to old videos like a camera hacks part 2!
when you are doing those really high shots with the monopod, are you just letting the camera autofocus pick it's focus point and hoping for the best?
Yep!
@@PeterMcKinnon how can you answer yes to an either or question???
@@Dewabarasunderan it’s not an either or question
The light behind, the yellow ones ,hurt my eyes because they were adjusted to a sober, soft and diffused kind of yellow lights.great video PM!❤️
HUGE takeaway- its not about having every piece of gear, its about being creative with what you have!! SO DOPE! :)
So so so true. Filming on a budget is fun and it forces you to be creative.
Isn't that the truth for life in general!
Positively helps much...
I love that you started to add your magic into your videos. They really work, especially with your delivery!
Gosh Peter, mans on a super RUclips upload hype this week, killing it
Thats because everyone is going on holidays, more time online...

I actually have the same monopod myself and it’s insanely good!
Roberto Blake what’s up Roberto???
And insanely expensive
I've looked but can't seem to find out exactly what monopod it even is. Anyone ?
Dwain Henry Manfrotto MVMXPRO500
can i use it for my sigma 60-600 or is that lens too big for a monopod like this?
I don't comment often on your videos because they are packed with info that there are no more questions to ask, but the magic tricks at the beginning, great start!

Peter is a legend. Combining both his passion together, only a few have done that 😍😍❤️ LEGEND
Great stuff! One nitpick: PAN is turning left or right. Only left or right. You cannot pan up or down or forwards or backwards.
Yooo, so glad Peter is back... been waiting for another tutorial :)
Why is it when I watch your vlogs and your intro already gives me the chills...

100% love the manfrotto monopod. Peter is right this tool is SUPER HELPFUL for filmmaking. Don't wait, get on it, GET YOURSELF ONE!
Also everyone when you travel will constantly, forever and always, get confused that it's not a tripod LOL

So what monopod are you using? I don't see it in your equipment list.
The tips and tricks you're always sharing are much appreciated.
Thanks for everything you do, Peter!
Catching focus on crazy shots like this is tricky, do you have any advice? I’m assuming a wide prime lens is necessary...
I LOVE these little magic tricks at the beginning of the videos, getting to see all aspects of Peter McKinnon

On the strength of this video I got one before shooting my second wedding. Absolute game changer. You absolute legend!
Really appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos Pete. I keep saying, you're a born natural at what you do. Good onya mate and thanks a heap. :)
Peter, you are the best person who offers tips on photography and continue❤️💙
I need to start putting your level of energy into my videos. Nicely done.
Always look forward to your videos. You are a legend. Partially inspired by your videos to get into filmmaking. What inspires me mostly is your story and your skill in storytelling. Smashed it!
Only thing is this works best with professional DSLR like mark 4 if you do this with semi pro DSLR like 70D it’s not that crisp.
Pete's magic tricks are everything!😂♥
Great video legend!
Hey Peter you flawlessly broke that down, great teaching.
How cool Your youtube channel is when You have more then 100000 views in couple of hours... Blown away, GOOD job mate💪
Love it that you include magic in your intros! Keep it up! :)
