Ginger Ninja this entire series and the actors and actresses that’s played in it are all underrated and this show is amazing if you are willing to accept the science fiction aspect of it.

The most amazing thing about Richard Alptert's first encounter with Jacob was being slugged in the face and waterboarded. I'd be terrified of Jacob too.
At this point I don’t believe he intended for Richard to come to the Island. I think it was a chance happening and that’s why it angered and confused Jacob so much.
Perhaps the Island brought Richard. It has been established that Island has abilities beyond the Protector’s, including the healing, changing location, and the presence of the Whispers.
I know that people are surprised that Jacob fought Richard back and then let himself be killed years later, but we have to remember that the Jacob who stopped Richard and the Jacob who confronted Ben are two totally different people. He was immature and naive in both Across the Sea and Ab Aeterno, probably because he lacked real socialization until this point. Sometime between this encounter and the Incident, he came to terms with that and became enlightened, ready to accept his fate.

It seems to be the same thing that went on at the Temple. The Temple Spring, presumably drawing healing power from Jacob so that they could make use of it without needing him to actually be present, was able to save a mortally wounded Ben as a child. Then Dogen attempted to do the same with Sayid, but was unable to because Jacob's death negated the spring's healing powers (or something) so that the water no longer had the power to heal, evidenced by Dogen's cut not healing, and Sayid drowning.

My First Impression of Jacob: A mythical being that has lived on the Island for thousands of years helping the 'good' in people grow and flourish. That was back before I saw this and Across the Sea. New Impression of Jacob:This guy is crazy... Seriously, when Richard came at him Jacob beat the shit out of him and when Ben did kill him Jacob actually touched him. Of course, I've haven't made it all the way through Season 6 yet so there could be a reason behind it I don't actually know yet.
The christian/religious symbolism in this show is amazing. Jacob, dunking Richard in the water. Baptising him. Waking him up to the fact that he is still alive and his actions matter. Only when accepts what Jacob is saying (word of god) does jacob stop. In the following scene when Jacob explains to Richard that he brings people to the island but does not want to help them, he wants them to help themselves. And Richard says "but if you don't step in, he (man in black/devil) will. " So Jacob asks Richard to be his intermediary (priest/monk) and relay his message to those who come. And in return he grants Richard eternal life (another christian motif, along with many other religions). It's unfortunately the production company lost faith in the show near the end. It still wasn't horrible quality. Jacob is so cool, and so was this episode. I think the reason Jacob was trying to baptise Richard was because he had been corrupted by the smoke man (which should be his nickname not MiB), maybe that's why Charlie thought Aaron had to be baptized?

It finally gave a sense of direction to all the events that have been occurance, and a general sense of context, too. Despite not showing cool stuff like ab aeterno did (eg. Titus & Mark etc), it was even more engaging and much more dynamic.

There's an episode in season 1 when it's explained that all of the wreckage from the plane crash is going to be swept out and buried. What happened to the remains of the statue is likely the same as what happened to the plane wreckage.
