@@silentrefusal9911 that’s a silly argument! I never said there is a perfect car out there but obviously you would want to choose one that has the least number of issues or issues that don’t put your life or family’s life in danger by catching on fire. @Ayush Malpeddi depends on the type of vehicles. Toyota and Mazda have been fairly reliable in the sedan and suv segment in the recent years. As a owner of a 2013 Elantra, I think the current model is over the top but it will appeal to a lot of people because of the value. I do not like the black plastic on the rear near the window, the dash with fake plastic near the driver side is awful, the engine noise is not pleasing from what I can hear from the video. The 2017 model is the best style.
I bought a Kia Optima ages ago in part due to your reviews, but I keep watching your videos for the humor and information. 11/10, thank you for all your hard work!!!
This Elantra gets me really excited for the upcoming Forte/Cerato. For the past 5-6 years, we are continuously seeing Hyundai doing something outrageous with design and then Kia fine tuning it.
Finally! A car maker that understands many of us do not want to have to use a touchscreen. Keep the button controls. Use the buttons so we can keep our eyes on the road.
Just bought a Hybrid Limited like the one here. I think it’s one of the most striking sedans around. Love the angular styling and grill with those headlights. And wheels seem to mimic the angular styling. Has a ton of great features, especially for the money. Interior very well designed and love the dual 10.5 inch screens. Only minor complaint is front seats could use a little more bolstering. Trunk very good sized. Getting 49 mpg so far but expect that to improve. Really love it so far. My other car is a Giulia Quadrafoglio but in a lot of ways like this car better.
I can't emphasize enough how futuristic the rear end of the Elantra looks; in an age when car companies have come out with some of the most bizarre rear tail lights this one redefines the notion of elegance.
One would think that a lighter vehicle with a less powerful drivetrain would achieve better fuel economy but the 225 pound LIGTHER Elantra Hybrid, with over 50 less horsepower, racks up virtually the same EPA fuel economy numbers as the significantly larger and more powerful Sonata Hybrid! My wife and I own a 2018 Kia Niro Touring (which we love) with essentially the same powertrain as is used in this new Hyundai Elantra Hybrid. We also just purchased a top spec 2021 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Ultimate with the Solar Roof and all. I can tell already from 2 days of driving that this Sonata is going to exceed the "Real World Fuel Economy" of the Niro, hands down, in spite of the fact that I've slightly exceeded the EPA numbers for the Niro over 2.3 years and 20,000+ miles. This new Sonata Hybrid is really a pretty stunning machine overall and I can't wait to start logging it's fuel economy data into the spreadsheet I maintain for ALL of my vehicles. While I do drive conservatively, I strive to never impede traffic flow. I would however enjoy participating in a "Hypermiling" contest with this new Sonata.
17:50 I'm personally not surprised that you found the 2.0 liter base engine to be quieter than the 1.6 liter in the Hybrid. We own a 2018 Kia Niro SX Touring Hybrid with the same drivetrain found in this new Elantra Hybrid. Although we love that Kia overall, I do find the engine note to be somewhat coarse at lower revs just above idle, and I'm going to guess that it shows up most in the lower gears at between 1,500 and 2,000 rpm. Can't say for sure because there's no tachometer BUT the engine does actually smooth out as the revs climb. In actuality though, the transition between EV mode and Hybrid Mode when out on the highway is barely perceptible and certainly not intrusive. Having said all that, I was recently helping a friend source a vehicle and was particularly impressed by the lack of engine noise from the 2.0 liter normally aspirated engine in a Kia Forte with their "Intelligent CVT"; presumably the same setup that is in this new base Elantra. Likewise, I recently sat in, and ultimately purchased a new Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with what I believe to be a VERSION based on this same 2.0 liter 4 cylinder (albeit with the Atkinson Cycle). It too impressed me by how quiet it was when being operated sedately, compared to the 1.6 liter in our Kia Niro. Can't wait for delivery of our new Sonata which had to be specially ordered due to our choice of color and interior trim.
I just bought a black 2018 Elantra SEL and it's just an awesome little car. It's so comfortable and actually handles pretty well for being comfort-oriented, plus great tech features. It's my first Hyundai product (previous 2014 Ford Focus owner, which was just awful) and I'm seriously impressed with the quality. Maybe this 2021 will be my next car? 🤔

Good review. Manufacturers have no one but themselves to blame for poor sedan sales as they axed hatches and made sedans less usable.
Such an informative great video. Love the hybrid too. Looks like the Korean market Elantra hybrid has rear air vents, it would be nice if they brought it here in the usa when it does finally come out for the hotter areas.

I applaud Hyundai for swinging for the fences in terms of styling, but if I’m honest I find it fussy and awkward. Mazda3 would be my personal choice in this segment.
I’m surprised the Hybrid is so slow with 195 lb-ft of torque. Is it just the difference in the way the torque is delivered between the gas and electric engines?
I don't get it ‼️ Y does the hybrid model get both the electric motor and a multi speed gearbox ⁉️ Aren't the electric motors there to patch up during the torque challenged regions of the ICE ⁉️
Hey I'm just asking Elantra sport owners. I'm looking to get the 2021 elantra N DCT as my daily. How has the car held up? (Trans/Ac/Suspension/Electronics? Also how do you like Hyundai service? I'm only wanting to do a exhaust/BoV and hoping the warranty won't be terminated) I had a 2019 Camry XSE as my daily driver and the power was actually decent at 203HP + decent 8 speed trans and 3,290 Lbs. Toyota let me put a full exhaust/ bolt ons/suspension work and they never terminated the warranty. It was hit by a old man unfortunatly and totaled. I feel because the elantra is significantly lighter+DCT at 201Hp it would be faster and still decent mpg and more fun due to a more sporty suspension/tuning ect. Would you reccomend it as a daily or should I look elsewhere? My budget is 25-26k
What I find stupid Canada doesn't get the vented seats! Is it worth getting the hybrid over the regular one? Honestly it's a great vehicle but man so many LCDs! What happens in 10 yrs and if the LCD goes than what? It will be a huge bill! Don't get me wrong I like change and love this Elantra...
Drove a rental 2021 Elantra last week. That console "oh $hit" bar is invasive, annoying and ugly. I felt like there was a fence between me and my passenger. It would be a deal breaker for me.
I have to say I love the Hyundai Elantra, as I have the 2017 limited, but I feel like they should put a little more hp on it, I would love for it to have a little more hp.
Why is it that only the American brands don't believe there is a market for these vehicles? Every other manufacturer still does and keeps improving the segment.
Because it’s too expensive for them to produce them, they can’t be competitive tech/price wise. The middle/lower class can no longer buy a new compact/midsize sedan from an American brand.
The first time I saw this car on pictures I was shocked how ugly it looks but seeing it in person it's a different story. N-line front is the best of the bunch not a full N (what a confusing naming..). I've changed my mind and really like the the design now. Kind of Ferrari life front and Mustang style rear and side. I'd go for the hybrid and it's ride quality as well as the fuel economy however at this price it's inching into higher segment base model. Buying cars now it's a gamble how long will it last though with electric clearly being the future but the technology is not quite there yet - not for the affordable price anyway.
I didn't notice this, but did you say there are two suspension options? I can't imagine that makes financial sense, is Hyundai thinking that will push enough buyers to the N-line to make up for development and manufacturing costs?
If you consider that the new Elantra hybrid shares the same platform as the Ioniq (engine, drive train, and independent rear suspension), it would make sense that the 2021 regular Elantra would be built on the same platform as the 2019-2020 Elantra, which also lacked independent rear suspension. So in that sense yes, it would make sense that the difference comes down to manufacturing, development, and tooling costs that they were able minimize by carrying over designs from vehicles that have already been in production in previous model years.
great specs, but the style is tough. and it's just too low to the ground. automakers just keep lowering sedan ground clearance and then can't figure out why everyone moves to crossovers.
I'm turning around on the styling but I really still dislike the plastic panels right behind the rear door windows. Half hoping a mid-cycle refresh will sort the looks out (though the opposite happened in the last gen imo, lol)
I have the portofino gray and I've seen the black model, and I've found it melds into the overall color on both of those, still not ideal but stands out less than the other colors.
Curious how the hybrid model will perform at higher highway speeds. With the 4.19 final drive ratio with the .77 6th gear overdrive, the engine is going to be turning well over 3000 rpm at 70 mph and aboe.
@@rightlanehog3151 I'm not sure, I just know that regardless of my kids being forward or rear facing, I'm always wishing for more horizontal room, so hopefully by design of the designers are also parents.
Too much black plastic on the bumpers. The grill is fine. Sounds like Hyundai really wants people to buy the hybrid over the regular. Waiting for the full N.
@alex on autos - very cool that the CVT here performs admirably. this said, I think Toyota's CVT performance varies by powertrain. The 169-hp 2.0L and CVT combo is much smoother, more natural to me than the 139hp ancient 1.8L. Toyota needs to drop that combo - not sure why, other than production change over and overall cost, they keep it. Could boost CAFE scores too... Thoughts?
Toyota keeps it to keep prices down. A lot of people just want a point A to point B car and therefore don't mind the 1.8 liter engine as long as they can save several thousand dollars.
@@braetonwilson4296 - Trouble is, for the same price as that antique-powered 1.8L Corolla, there are much better choices - like this Elantra, the new Sentra, the (admittedly hideous) Civic, etc. It will catch up with Toyota eventually; it used to build class-leading cars, now it builds cars to a price point.
@@joec1774 Much better? IDK about that. It's not like the base trim stripped down Elantra, Sentra, or Civic offers much. Love the vids! Any chance on getting your hands on the new arteon? A car ive been highly considering but am waiting on reviews from reviewers i trust
I applaud Hyundai for swinging for the fences in terms of styling, but if I’m honest I find it fussy and awkward. Mazda3 would be my personal choice in this segment.
the design is so top-notch, and is easily one of the best in this segment. And the interior is by far the best in this segment imo, not even close.
Nah Mazda3 has the best interior
6:16 That was so smooth!
I’m surprised the Hybrid is so slow with 195 lb-ft of torque. Is it just the difference in the way the torque is delivered between the gas and electric engines?
Very impressive. I hate the big grille, fake 3rd side window and the dent on the doors, but aside of that, good job Hyundai.
It looks pretty in person to be honest, the crease on the side makes it look sharp and definitely a standout.
I don't get it ‼️
Y does the hybrid model get both the electric motor and a multi speed gearbox ⁉️
Aren't the electric motors there to patch up during the torque challenged regions of the ICE ⁉️
I appreciate your snappy, fast-paced reviews. Your reviews are the only ones that don't make me n...od......o........f............f
I have to say I love the Hyundai Elantra, as I have the 2017 limited, but I feel like they should put a little more hp on it, I would love for it to have a little more hp.
The other thing that consumers dislike about the Stop-Start tech is they come with a $400 AGM battery it requires...
I agree with your comments on Honda hybrid system. They tend to be performance oriented but suffer on high-speed cruising.
Hands down the best part was the trunk segment 😂😂!!
Love most things about the Elantra Hybrid, but the fake gauge on the left and the fake window on the C-pillar might be a bridge too far.
Alex would you prefer this hybrid over the Sonata Hybrid with the sunroof? Thanks!
@Alex on Autos
I LOVE THE GUEST SHOT OF SOFYAN IN THE TRUNK COMFORT INDEX
Well about that start stop. The super base model actually does have it. But thankfully it can be disabled.
Now that how you style a car. Good job Hyundai 👌👌
Why add more lights and stuff for people to have to pay for on the cluster that doesn't actually have a function? That's stupid.
wow. Simply the best looking compact sedan in the market
The majority of americans have one person in the car and almost never have someone in the back so back seats is the place to skimp
What in all that is holy has Hyundai done with it's grill, it makes Toyota look good.
Everything abt thr hybrid is just spot on
Curious how the hybrid model will perform at higher highway speeds. With the 4.19 final drive ratio with the .77 6th gear overdrive, the engine is going to be turning well over 3000 rpm at 70 mph and aboe.
I'm hearing 48-55 mph depending on trim.
Jesus! That grill.
INCANDESCENT turn signals??
You find cheap led bulb philips at 11$
Should I go for this or mercedez c300?
Styling looks great to me.
Alex, What is the point of generous rear legroom without the headroom to match?
Car seats
@@ringlord13 Is that by design or just an accident?
@@rightlanehog3151 I'm not sure, I just know that regardless of my kids being forward or rear facing, I'm always wishing for more horizontal room, so hopefully by design of the designers are also parents.
@@ringlord13 Adequate space for rear- facing child seats in crucial but at 6'3", my concern is head and leg room.
@@rightlanehog3151 get a camry
So is the only difference between the Elantra hybrid and the ioniq exterior styling? Drivetrain, suspension, and price all seem to be the same
Could you do 2021/2 Elantra vs 2022 Civic?
Alex Elantra hybrid or Ionic?
Not to mention using naturally aspirated engines now vs GDI :)
Ahhhh Sofyan, riding Alex’s coattails again I see.
Too much black plastic on the bumpers. The grill is fine. Sounds like Hyundai really wants people to buy the hybrid over the regular. Waiting for the full N.
No. The elantra hybrid is suprisingly quick. In the 7 second range
Between the elentra hybrid blur and ioniq hybrid se, which is a better choice?
I JUST BOUGHT ONE TUESDAY
Heck, the base 2021 Civic LX doesn't even offer apple carplay and android auto. At least the base 2021 Corolla L offers both. Plus people who want cheap cars also want reliable cars and Corolla is the most reliable. That 1.8 L engine is bulletproof.
Could you start giving the arm rests 1-10 points?
Awesome Review.
Hahaha! I love that Bae just came out of the trunk. :-)
