so sorry you faced those dumb ass words in the market. I'm a black Moroccan and can assure you I literally never face comments like those. There's something about us Moroccans where we like to get instant reactions from foreigners. So to them they prob did not mean it in a vicious way but they obviously wanted your attention and I think it is so wrong they went about it that way (especially the N word one). 1. Use AMAZIGH insteed berber, that gave the romain to us. We have now some kind of collective conscience of this old culture (year 2969).
    2. Don't worry if someone call you chocolade of rasta, no racisme please, its a compliment as they use them in songs/lyrics. BUT N×××× is a bridge to far, they insult there roots first. You don't have to except it. Next time call the police and you will see wat will happend.

I went to Marrakech with a friend who is also a black American woman. We didn’t experience any racism or nasty treatment from the locals other than some sales people being over aggressive. Part of it could I am the same complexion as most of them and my friend is lighter than a lot of them. Those people seem to inherently know you are American. For us local people knew we weren’t Moroccan but did not know we were Americans until we told them. We wore long skirts, long sleeves and covered our hair part of the time. two women in a very male dominated city vs man and woman could play a part. They flirted with us. Asked us on dates. One vendor kissed my friend which she was upset about. men were mostly protective of us. In fact when we were sitting at a cafe a guy approached our table and acted like he wanted to take my friend’s sunglasses. The men sitting around us started yelling at him in Arabic and he left us alone. We took a taxi from the airport directly to the bed and breakfast we booked. We mostly we t around on our own but a guy who worked at our BandB also gave us a ride on his scooter and took us on a little tour. The only people I thought were kind of rude were the French tourists. They kept talking to us in French even we told them we don’t speak French. I think they assumed we were Moroccans. The other tourists we met were cool though.

Also as I watch more of the video after writing the first part of my post, I have to wonder if you were aware that some of your clothing is considered inappropriate for Morocco? Not that there's anything wrong with certain styles in other countries or a reason to be mistreated... As US citizens (an europeans), we tend to not research and/or attempt to respect other countries'/cultures' customs when traveling. All I can say is it's a good thing you were moving around the Marrakech with the Brothas. The food looks sooooo good!

Marrakech is awesome. As someone said in the comments, it’s likely at times based on your budget.
I stayed in a few of the more recognised Riads/resorts: La Mamounia, La Sultana, Fairmont Royal Palm etc, so I guess my experiences would definitely be different, plus I’m male.
Walked the street near midnight and sometimes interacted with random people, it was all good.
    Loved the Medina experience.
I actually made a few friends which I’m still in communications with to date.
Was there just before the pandemic started, woulda been back already but for Covid 😏

As a Moroccan middle aged man, I want to see more Black people from around the world visit Morocco. It is a beautiful country (like so many other places). There is some latent racism in our society that can only eradicated the more cultural exchanges happen! In my twenties (1986) , my mother wanted me to only look for and marry White Moroccan women from the North of Morocco not the darker skinned ones from the south! My mum wasn’t racist by regionalist (a milder form of racism, but she was not an educated lady!). Things have improved a lot now (finding any man with a stable job helped) , that some of my white and beautiful female cousins have married darker Moroccan men! I have never asked my aunt (my mother’ sister) how she coped with such a shock ! Slow progress is being made...My Sunny and Magical Morocco is waiting for everyone to visit...Welcome.
