  • Black Like Me: Amazighs/Gnawa Wedding in Morocco
The Gnawa are an ethnic group who were brought to Morocco as slaves, and their ancestry is traced to parts of West Africa.
Moroccan and Hausa cultures are connected both religiously, as both are Malikite Muslims, with many Moroccan spiritual schools active in Hausaland, and artistically, with Gnawa music being the prime example of typical Hausa music within Morocco.
Zagora is a town located in the Draa River valley in the Moroccan region of Drâa-Tafilalet. On the base of the Zagora mountain the remains of an Almoravid fortress can still be seen.

@@blessedone6516 There is no mistake in The Quran but there is many mistakes in the Bible that the Quran mentions correctly such as the position in society of Prophet Yusuf (Joseph). The Quran mentions he was a king and the Bible mentions he was a pharaoh. The Quran is correct and more recently the Rosetta Stone was decoded and what was found is that Yusuf was a king and not a pharaoh. Islam is The true religion with undeniable proof and evidence. We Muslims believe in Jesus but not as God and we don’t believe God has a son. Jesus peace be upon him is a prophet and Messenger Of Allah (God) and he is the messiah. He wasn’t killed as Allah saved him before they could get to him. There is also scientific and historical miracles mentioned in the Quran such as the formation of the human embryo as well as the creation of honey in bees. There are Islamic prophecies that came true and will come true and I recommend everyone to try and learn about them. I myself know of people who were ill and suffering with issues (including black magic) and got cured miraculously when the Quran was recited over them. I invite everyone to learn about Islam.

the black Moroccans are not necessarly descendants of slaves, many many blacks ppl in Morocco's history were governors, generals, vizirs...etc just not long ago the police and tax collectors in Morocco were mostly black because they had no alliegence to any tribe but to the sultan alone, so they were his ppl, they even had a black sultan for some times, notbaly the "black sultan" Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Othman, the last Moroccan sultan to unify all of North africa and launch expeditions in Iberia, and the current ruling dynasty came from the region you're in soo they were most probably black too but after centuries of ruling from Fes the decendants became white. then again, there was the salve trade too with both Europeans captured and subsaharans bought from african tribes.

    2. Gnawa are descended from ex servil communities (aka slaves) from the "sudan" which is modern day Mali and the sahel region which were under the moroccan crown from 1591 to 1833
    3. The very term Gnawa comes from the amazigh term "ignawen" meaning "mutes" and it's a derogatory term for the black slaves imported from the sahel who didn't speak tmazight, there's also the term harratin which comes from the amazigh "Ahertan" meaning blackskinned.

Firstly, Gnawa is an exclusively Moroccan culture, why try to link it to something else outside?
Another thing, folk groups dressed in white are called Ismgen and not Gnawa.
The Gnawa are not all descendants of slaves, it is a spiritual way of living, no more, there are white Gnawa!

@@hihello-yv2tt Haratin is a rather vulgar generic term which basically means mixed between black and white.
it is mainly used in the south of present-day Mauritania.
In Morocco we do not use it to designate a group, it's insulting!
The people of Zagora and its region are predominantly black skinned and Amazigh, those of them who are mixed do not claim distinction from the others, calling them haratin is just insulting them!
As for Gnawa, it is a spiritual movement born in Morocco and nowhere else, by descendants of emancipated sub-Saharan slaves.
This term has expanded to encompass all those who follow this spiritual movement (Tagnawit), whether they are black, white and whether they are descendants of slaves or not.
Gnawa is not an ethnic or colored group.

I want to study both cultures but distinguished and not mixed. It’s part of my ethnic studies that I’m engaging. The reason I refer to gnawa as a ethnic group is vécu their origins are different to the amazigh. They come from the western Sudan (usually a term used to refer to sahelian Africa). I know that one guy in the video said he only has his family in that neighborhood so it could mean that it’s a neighborhood of amazigh people mainly. Also what is the difference between the black sahrawis and black amazigh?

Allah (God) is great, not humans. There is no mistake in The Quran but there is many mistakes in the Bible that the Quran mentions correctly such as the position in society of Prophet Yusuf (Joseph).
