Thank you Kermit for keeping these wonderful old gals around and so well cared for! I’m from the fifties and remember flying with my dad and seeing these all over! Great airplanes!
Some of my favorite content on YT are the behind-the-scene restoration progress videos. Be it planes, cars, guns, etc. It's always fascinating to see what it takes to get these old machines back in operation. Great job as always Paul! Cheers!
Back in 1946 my father went to Texas and purchased an army surplus BT 13 for $50 bucks. He followed route 66 to fly it to Brackett Field here in southern California where he kept it for many years. It became a big part of my childhood and recall frequently asking him, “Once around the pattern Pop?” Those were some great times.
I have no connection to airplanes all I ever did was fixing cars and motorcycles as a hobby, but I really like these updates an insights by Paul ! So much knowledge and deep insight - much appreciated
MY DAD FLEW THESE IN '43. HE WAS AN INSTRUCTOR. BEFORE THEY ISSUED T-6's. He always wanted one after the war. GREAT JOB ON THIS ONE ! I'D LOVE TO SEE IT FLY !
Hi Kermit. A distant cousin of mine was the first female American pilot killed in the line of duty. She was ferrying a BT-13 when she was clipped by another ferry pilot. It would make a wonderful addition to your WAFS/WASP presentation to include the story of Cornelia Fort. She also witnessed the initial attack on Pearl Harbor from the air as she was giving a flying lesson when she was buzzed by Japanese Zeros. I understand that the Interstate Cadet she was flying at the time has recently been located and restored.
Lovely aircraft and so pleased that you have a fine example at Fantasy of Flight, one interesting thing about the colour scheme I notice that the chrome yellow is high gloss and the red markings are semi matt finish this stands out well. Paul that was a nice walk around and we appreciate your attention to detail on things like that enormous antennae ! the whole aeroplane looks pristine and certainly looking forward to the day that Kermit takes this beauty to the skies again.
Great plane. Looks fantastic. Had a very similair paintsceme on an RC plane i had a couple of years ago, and on a sunny day, with blue skies. man that looked absolutely fantastic.
I hope Hurricane Dorian doesn't cause you to much issues guys ,You guys do a fantastic job keeping this history flying , I wish I was there to see it all , much respect from down under
Thank you for the update. I was surprised to learn that so few BT15s were still flying. I look forward to further project updates. Be well and be safe.
I like the Vultee BT-13s alot too! I saw a couple of them at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019. I think I saw about 5 of them when I walked the Warbirds section. This is a beautiful airworthy example too!
I've worked on a BT13 with the 985 Pratt including adding a smoke kit. That was fun to get approved. I put the tank just behind the back seat and attached it to the structural tubing with 4130 straps. Electrical problems were fun on that old system! Joke joke.
These videos are really hard for me to watch , !!! because I wish I had known about that type of work when I was in high school! I wish I was doing what Paul does !! And I love watching !!
after the war it seemed every crop sprayer a a BT-13 or two hiding in the weeds-it was a great up-date "kit" for your Stearman-the higher HP engine and better brakes went right on the Stearman-and for a very low cost
I hope Dorian passed by without paying you any attention, I'm sure it gets a little tense around there whenever you hear of another Hurricane heading your way. Stay safe , we will see you when it all blows over.
I live about 4 miles from NAS Corpus Christi and a mile or so from one of the auxiliary fields. It would be cool if y'all brought this airplane over here for a visit.
Had a squadron of derelict -13's parked at 4B9 when I was a kid. Used to pass by them every day during summers enroute to/from my job in the tobacco fields
I got a job in Victoria Texas in 1980 and the first thing I saw driving in at Foster Field (former WWII training base) was a Vibrator. It was there a couple of years and then was gone.
I’m pretty sure that I built one one of these when I was about 8 years old. But it was plastic and and had a 10” wing span. Lol.. cool to see the real thing
I was wondering what kind of paint are you using for these restorations. I mean is there a special brand that will preserve the machines for a longer period of time, or is it a regular paint that is used for aeroplanes?
When you refabricated the 'wet wing'. Why didn't you put a rubber bladder inside as a sort of belt and braces approach? Would that have been impossible?
Where did your BT-15 come from? We had one at the aircraft school in Salina, ks. The school canceled the program in 1981. All the aircraft was auctioned off. Just curious if that's it.
Hello my name is Desi , I’m restoring BT-13 canopy’s as well and wanted to know if I can get some tippers on how to install windows .. I am on my first canopy and it would be very helpful if I can get some info on how to go about installing the windows .. thank you
A Vultee Vengence crashed in Western Australia in 1944 the pilot got lost in cloud storm running low on fuel navigator Clyde King bailed first then pilot Jack Ingram bailed out the pilot made it to a farm house to safety 4 days later but navigator was not found
@@KermitWeeks444 no my monitor is set up with a spyder 3 calibrator plus it looks purple on my other PC and my phone as well...weird if it looks red your end.

Nice job on the rebuild. I haven’t seen a BT-13 since the 70’s. Looking forward to seeing more on the BF-108.

Really enjoy watching your videos
Very cool. Thanks for doing these Kermit/Paul.
A friend of mine flies one of these out of KGFL. Wonderful sound in flight.
What a project of love for a very nice looking aircraft! Can't wait to see this take flight!
The Navy paint scheme is the best!

Excellent as always!!
This always stand's...A very big....Thanks very much...!
Can't wait. I learned basic aerobatics in one many yeas ago and loved it. Flew off my farm strip like it was made for it.
Great video, would love to see more on this plane, cockpit tour and other features/design aspects that sets it apart.
Great presentation. Thanks!
Awesome! Beautiful plane. Thanks for the update.
That is a fine looking plane.
Great Job Paul!
Stay safe down there.
hope you guys made it through that hurricane that thing was massive

O trabalho de restauração é incrível.
Very nice video really enjoyed thanks for sharing.
Lovely aeroplane!
Great job again!
Awesome plane!! Mr. Pat Hartness owns a BT-13 at Triple Tree Aerodrome in Woodruff SC.
Great video - thanks!
Stay safe during Dorian!
Great vid guys.
Amazing.
Nice plane. I like the colors.
I hope that you don't have troubles with the hurricane.
A BT-13 was the first airplane that daughter and I both got some stick time in.

Looks nice now. It looks as if it could take a few knocks.
THE VULTEE VIBRATOR
Looks great 👌

Nice work now how is the ME 108 project doing ?
BINGO!!!!
What Norm and Vincent said!!
I love those shop videos! Thanks for sharing this! Any news on the Bf-108??
Update coming in a week or two.
Thanks for the heads up. Will be looking forward to it!

Great great gob, i wish i could work on it!!
I don't like the "gob", but he is doing a good job.
Is she ready to fly? Are you ready to fly her Kermit? What a neat plane :{)
hello I operated a BT 13 at Griffin GA airport it look just like it . thanks for the video. saludos
very interesting aircraft can't wait tp see it fly again. when will we see videos on the PBY Catalina?
I hope all you guys got from Dorian is some rain and a few breezes. When are we going to get to see the BT-15 fly?
Love the BT-13/15 very cool A/C. How is the 108 coming along?
Great! New 108 update coming soon.
Thanks I look forward to them
Why are the control surfaces fabric covered instead of metal?
Nice job. Ooh, was that a Spitfire in the background?
Does the BT-15 ready for flying now ?
Very soon
Holy drip pan Batman! Puts the one under my 911 to shame :)
Its freakin BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I love all your airplanes tho, LOL
How are you guys doing with the hurricane passing by?

Any idea where this particular plane was assigned during WWII?
Kermit's stage III plan for FoF is cloning Paul!
x about ten!
Nice plane. I see that Spitfire in the background begging for attention!
BT-15 had a plastic fuselage. Can you tell us more about that please.
you should do a tour on the b17 if you have it
What's happening with bff 108 rebuild ???
Update coming soon.
So physically similar to the NAA AT-6 which had slightly different wing and tail shapes and retractable gear. Can't find me picture just now.
When you refabricated the 'wet wing'. Why didn't you put a rubber bladder inside as a sort of belt and braces approach? Would that have been impossible?
It's just a polite question. There was no offense intended. What's the problem?
It's ok Michael. I could have worded it better, and you're probably right anyway. Nice plane though. :-)
BT13 Pratt......BT15 Wright I think Paul kinda mumbled this?
Good luck buttoning up against Dorian. Hope nothing comes through the windows.
Is this the Vultee Vibrator?
Hope all Goes well with the Hurricane . It destroyed the Bahamas
ultralowfat Oh dear. Kermit lost half his first collection in a Hurricane.
Fingers crossed for Dorian losing its power near you....
Where did your BT-15 come from? We had one at the aircraft school in Salina, ks. The school canceled the program in 1981. All the aircraft was auctioned off. Just curious if that's it.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
How do you preserve the engine during the down time?
Missing the Bf-108 updates...
Coming soon. Hurricane prep and post getting back to normal pushed us a bit back.
Nasty oil leak from the looks of the galvanized pan under the engine. How long did it take for that much oil to leak out?
frederic rike that’s normal for a radial engine!
2 hours
No wonder they wore steam punk goggles!

Good thing it was the right eye that fell out of the coconut head, left eye falls out... oy.
are you guys anywhere near the hurricane?
Fortunately, no! We were spared this time.
@@KermitWeeks444 That's good, I remember your video of the last hurricane disaster. 🙄
the 'red' looks purple is that how it is or just wrong colour on the vid?
Looks red on our end. Sure your monitor doesn't need a tweaking?
Looks like a semi gloss darkish cadmium red on my monitor
It is red here. HTH
