    Only complaint about black midis I have is that most of it is just notes that can't be heard at all

    • @harmonicposting
      @harmonicposting 8 лет назад +133

      Henrix98 Because its about presentation as well. The notes you don't hear are blanks made for art. :P

    • @user-jb6pb5wb2f
      @user-jb6pb5wb2f 8 лет назад +122

      they're not necessarily blank, just very quiet and create the blacking effect.

    • @dagdamon1856
      @dagdamon1856 8 лет назад +85

      Also, some serve to create percussive sounds, or sounds perceived as inharmonicities. Some serve as high harmonics for the more audible "middle" notes.
      Presentation's a big part of the thing. But an accretion of very, very quiet dissonant tones or octave equivalents or all the other extra shit creates a pretty sophisticated tone color.

    • @killboybands1
      @killboybands1 8 лет назад +24

      I was thinking the same thing. Not only can most of the notes not be heard but if you look at the key board there should be shitloads of dissonance and clusters yet it's pretty much all tonal. You'ed be able to hear it even if it was quiet...so what gives?

    is it only me or do those BLACK MIDI-songs don´t sound like they have that much notes? if i would just guess, most of the times i would think there are only a fraction of the notes you can see in the videos.

    • @dio3027
      @dio3027 8 лет назад +97

      They put alot of silent notes in there, but also sometimes multiple notes need to be used for a chord (and also this is a single instrument used to play a song that is normally played by multiple instruments so there are multiple chords too.)

    • @dio3027
      @dio3027 8 лет назад +5

      +TheToxicElemental Sorry I didn't notice, you can't slow down YT vids on a smartphone. (My one anyway).

    • @MorgueParfington
      @MorgueParfington 8 лет назад +34

      I think people put in a ton of silent/quiet notes just to up their note count, honestly. Why put them in if they won't be heard? The answer to that is aesthetics.

    • @wasdwazd
      @wasdwazd 8 лет назад +48

      Black MIDI is as much about presentation as it is sound.

    • @itsamemario1772

      You cover your hard drive with titanium and do the process in a desert also bring two PCs. Once you have done that your computer explodes the radius and power of the explosion depends on your PC and the MIDI. After that use your last remaining energy to pick yourself up get the hard drive and put it in the other PC and upload it to RUclips (with loads of ads lol) and be remembered as one of the people who made black MIDIS.

    • @mitchellspanheimer1803
      @mitchellspanheimer1803 8 лет назад +6

      I think you get a MIDI editor and create it on the computer or connect a MIDI piano keyboard and just play a bunch of different songs or melodies, and layer them on top of each other. I think Synthesia costs money though but that is what the author used for this song. If you ever have used finale notepad and made up your own songs you should be able to do this, most songs have an introduction, a melody, a baseline and a chorus that repeats, plus some sort of ending (called an Outro or Coda)

    • @shokiios7094
      @shokiios7094 7 лет назад +2

      Rockstuff2004 you stack multiple midi files together
      for example; this file is for the bass/drum chords
      this file is for melody/main tune
      then you do that and supposedly sacrifice a small animal to a long since dead Pegan God a voilã

    • @sofaspace7475
      @sofaspace7475 7 лет назад

      Midis are made by continually cutting and putting notes on top of notes until you get a simple black streak. Then there is no possible way to finish playing the song because the notes are blacked out, so that only computers are able to complete the whole song, but even then, a cpu has to play it.

    I wonder if everybody knows what a fractal is.

      Hashim Hassan I do. And incase others dont know, A fractal is a closed object with an infinit perimiter. Where ever you zoom in on the perimiter it repeats it self... for ever... Sorry for any typos im typing this on a very small phone.

      Yeah, hence the visual representation of a mandelbrot set in the beginning, an example of a fractal

    Why is it that, musically, black MIDI always seems to sound like generic J-pop/rock?

      That's likely where they get their inspiration from. Anime seems to be a big inspirational point for many people.

    This sounds like intense training montage music. Like at the end I'm supposed to hear someone scream someone's name at the top of a mountain.

    Listening to it at full volume while playing the last of us multi player is the coolest thing ever, or while playing the last boss in uncharted 2
