I’m a retired male married and 76 years old. My only advise to young people is to focus on what you have in your life, not what you don’t have. You seem to have an abundance of good thins in your life. There are people out there who would give anything to live like you are right now. Don’t let what doesn’t get done overshadow what you have gotten done.

Lawrence, you are my age and in my life's situation. Wisdom most often comes with age. Although Isabel is quite wise for a young woman, she still suffers from the lack of a full life behind her to teach her what is truly valuable. She is so fortunate to have already been and done what she has. Just imagine the experiences and stories she will have after another 50 years or so.

"Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time." Just because you're not "getting things done" when you're reading a book doesn't mean you're not being productive. Feeding our brains, learning, getting lost in a story are all things we need to thrive as human beings. Not every spare minute in our days needs to be filled with something considered traditionally productive. Feeding our souls with things we truly enjoy are equally, if not more, important.
And I don't think we need to multitask with this, either. For example, don't think that you have to only listen to audio books while you're tackling another task so you can still feel "productive" and not feel guilty about enjoying a book for an hour (or however long). It's not a bad thing to fully immerse yourself in a quiet, still activity.

Isabel - as a permaculture designer, and a passionate gardener, your effort in your patch is brilliant! I would suggest you try putting down layers of cardboard, ensuring you overlap the edges well, before you add a few inches of compost. You’ll find all the weed seeds will be smothered and won’t be able to grow. You’ll still get seed blowing in from beyond the garden, but not nearly as much as before. Best wishes to you from Byron Bay, Australia 🌈🌻

In connection to your other video, I think it’s amazing you share the strains that comes with this life as well. Many don’t understand that it is physically HARD, 24/7 having to tend the garden & now having to chop wood before it’s too late and you’re cold this winter. That’s a lot of physical work for a girl only in her beginning 20s ! On top of that, of course that the boundary between work / private life is very blurry and you are never “off” but depend on filming for income. Obviously, there is a lot of freedom in escaping the 9-5 but it does not mean life is less work. On the contrary - as you scale down on luxury (we tend to take for granted). I think it is amazing you share those thoughts and less romantic sides. I would also feel stress / confusion if it is really the life I wanna live - but don’t worry, these are growing pains and with age comes more trust and calm of mind. Just keep going. 🙏🌸🌿

This is the reality of life. No matter where you live, city, suburbs, country, a forest, the main purpose in life is to take care of ourselves and provide the necessitates that we need. Food, shelter, companionship, water, hygiene, mental health, work.
We can choose to work all day at the office, eat fast food, watch TV in our down time and buy groceries from the store, and still complain about life, and not having time...
Or we can spend all day working/cultivating our crops, cooking our food, making clothes, etc. Being self sufficient regardless of where we live; on some land or in an apartment. Regardless of whatever our career is.
We all spend our time the same, living, surviving, sustaining, resting, healing, etc. It just looks different for everyone.
One thing I love about this channel is showing how you adapt to the seasons. A month ago I started waking up and turning down with the sun. I'm self employed and it's helping me with work-life balance. I love that I don't work nights anymore, but even if I did I would still find my rhythm/flow.
I think it's silly how people (myself included) are always so shocked every year by how hot it gets or how cold it gets. We know it's going to be hot in the summer... Instead of being shocked maybe we could be more prepared and accepting.
Ultimately life is about setting our future selves up for success or failure. Flow or struggle. The key is moderation and balance. 💗

As long as you learn you are moving forward. Each year will bring you more wisdom. Don't rush through them. Enjoy the simple seasons. Express yourself in your creative seasons. Rest in your tired seasons. Listen to your body and mind. You have a whole life of seasons ahead of you. Just take one at a time.

Now I live in the suburbs of 🇨🇦 and I have struggled with this fast paced EASY life that seems to be the norm for everyone! I’ve become depressed and anxious and stressed. Everything gets to me, even tho everything is easier then it used to be…
Growing up doing dishes involved pumping water from the well, hauling water, heating water, washing. Now I walk to the sink turn it on an wash but somehow I enjoy the work so much less and my sink is always cluttered with dishes! I miss slow living! Good news, I’m buying my family farm off my dad and hope to move there in 2-5 years 😁I’ve never been SO HAPPY! But, now I’m worried city life has softened me…

One thing I’ve learned about growing vegetable in the cascades is to look at what the garden gets taken over by and then plant that the next time. Squash, melons, potatoes, hot peppers, beans. Herbs are separatly done in my windows and orchards are nice over time not to mention berries. Collard greens and other bitter leafy greens as well. As for cucumber, corn, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, etc. the deer and vermin have a field day with that but make sure to leave me with the weeds.

This is exactly the thing that is stressing her out: Trying week after week to keep many giving her audience what they want. She tries posting a shorter-than-normal video about being burned out and frustrated, and what is utterly predictable happens in the comments: she doesn’t know how good she has it, she should not be feeling what she’s feeling, she’s being a downer, lots of unsolicited advice about how to cheer up, be Saved, ditch her freeloading boyfriend, etc., etc. I think it’s perfectly understandable her feeling burned out by her job, which is being a RUclips Influencer that puts out a video that Meets Expectations every week, not gardening, chopping wood, cooking, and so forth.

Your honesty is appreciated. There are so many people out there who try to make a quick buck selling books/videos/etc with titles like "How to Grow 10,000,000 tomatoes in a cardbox on your porch, while you sleep" (I jest of course) but there is a harsh reality beyond that. Growing food is tough. It is a dance between trying to work with nature and trying not to get crushed by it. I've had quite a seasons pass in my life now and can speak to a few things about gardening/raising animals. Give it enough time and you'll find things you have a knack for, but always keep things a bit diversified so that you never go hungry. Nature does always seem to provide but we have to be flexible to accept what is given and not try to force everything. To use an old nautical concept, you can keep you hand on the wheel but the ocean ultimately decides how fast you get there and where you end up. We humans love our routines and think the world should bend to our will, in reality you'll find happiness and abundance is learning to bend but not break like a supple bamboo in a wind or flood.

Most plants that are considered weeds are medicinal. And it look more beautiful in its wild jungle like growth, than unnatural perfect rows that are manmade. Nature is messy but she knows what she is doing and doesn't need pruning. Your garden looks much more beautiful this way, and you are not a failure. You have succeeded in being more sustainable on many ways already, including your gardenn, the tiny house and many of your daily practices, and diy projects. You are simply an inspiration xx
