BLACK + BLUE... Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult toured together for a few years in the late 70's. It was the show you had to see if you like either band.

I think after Tony was in Jethro Tull (for a month or so...) he became interested in the Flute haa. In his book (Iron Man) Tony said they liked doing these types of songs because it made the heavy songs seem EVEN heavier. This song was about Bill's wife leaving him I believe..

Just found you guys and tore through your Black Sabbath reactions because they are one of those bands that I get a yearning to listen to again over and over. My personal favorite band of all time, particularly with Ozzy. I like their other stuff and I still love Ozzy's work, but this collection of guys created pure magic with every song. I'm glad I get to listen to it all again vicariously through you, as you both really seem like genuine fans who appreciate what is happening, so I'm along for the ride.

Aside from "WarPigs" this song and "Planet Caravan" are two of my favourites by Black Sabbath. I think they could have been even bigger with a wider appeal, by diversifying with a couple mood-scape songs mixed within every album. Love this song!!

They sure knew dynamics as this quiet interlude is quite a change from the monster riffs that populate this album. Great tune, though sad and a bit melancholy and introspective but just close your eyes and zone out, it makes me calm. Sabbath did changeup stuff like this and surprise you but they had many kinds of songs in their genre. Sabbath rules on! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎶

GREAT reaction guys!! I was anxiously awaiting this one. Upon first hearing it, I couldn't believe this was Sabbath (I didn't know Planet Caravan yet) - it seemed so outside of their wheelhouse and capability - how wrong I was! Totally redefined my opinion of Ozzy's voice, cause it's beautiful here. Hats off to Tony Iommi for a wonderful flute inclusion.
This is a stoner track for sure - it's made so SO much groovier/trippier when listen to with a little 'herbal' enhancement!! Just IMHO... Cheers!

vol. 4 is crazy good. Minus (FX) that is a bunch of pointless noise on there tho fill the album. But, that being said It is not me killer record. I think this is the first album that they made recorded in the U.S. L.A. if I’m not mistaken.

It's a common question regarding this song, but indeed it is Ozzy on the vocal. There's also an outtake version from the same session where Oz can be heard talking a bit just before singing. He was seemingly in a mellow mood which lead to such a low and unforced tone and delivery.

This is one of those songs that isn't really a song but kinda ties a hard rock concept album together. A lost art, actually, because nobody can sit still and listen to an entire LP these days. Also and however; you fellas aren't under any obligation to find something you love in every white-bread rock song you react to. If you feel something is lame? Well, it might actually be lame af!
    In real life!
Trust me. As a white boy metal head myself, I consider this tune to be kinda/sorta lame. Shitty filler, if you will. I'm reasonably sure that Tommy Iommi himself would shrug it off as 70's era stoner pabulum.
See? I even got the man's name wrong. On purpose. To prove a point.
What point did I just prove, exactly?
    Exactly.
