You can have only a trail or enduro and not being limited to parks, with a DH bike you won't have a ton of options but it's the most entertaining option for most people who are considering owning a DH bike anyways
If you have to chose one ? Because I don’t have money for both. I want to know what is more fun not necessarily for racing but something fun and maneuverable
i think Downhill bikes are the best bikes... well for people that actually can use them to their full potential. lets be real most of us dont have the riding skill that requires much more than an decent trailbike. Downhill bikes are made for going downhill fast and everything else besides that is an absolute chore on those so why would yall ride downhill bikes if you cant even ride an trailbike to its full potential.
I love you guys and I appreciate the videos. I was really looking forward to this but I was hoping for more, like switching off bikes and comparing impressions from each.
tbh, in my country a DH bike would idd be pointless and a waste of money. I live in The Netherlands and except for the province Limburg, the country is flat as a pancake. And even in Limburg a DH bike would be overkill. Highest point in our country is just 322,4 meters above sealvl and is called Vaalserberg. Berg = Dutch for mountain, but lets face it; it's a hill. But in a country with many mountains and thus DH trails, a DH bike would be a nice addition.
Why? If you ride that bike properly 1. You will never need 540% range 2. Your going to loose that mech and 3. The saddle is for support and suicides. A DH bije with a dropper and 12sp is a posers bike
Greetings Forgive me for asking but Neil says around the 4 minute mark, that Specialised is the biggest bike maker in the world which l think is incorrect and misleading. l believe that honour goes to Giant and Merida respectively. lf l am not mistaken Merida does own about 49% or 50% of Specialsied or at least according to what l have read. l think GMBN as a leading voice in this space should be as accurate as possible with regard to information because that affects your credibility. l could and may probably be wrong but can you support your claims? I am just going off a documentary l watched recently about Taiwan's biking industries and some old pieces l read some years ago. For me as these guys also do contract manufacturing, Giant and Merida, for other famous brands l find it hard to believe Specialised is bigger than them. Anyway it would be interesting to hear GMBN's reply to this.
Cool video as always! Thanks! I would never have the courage and or technical skills to need to ride a DH bike, pretty sure, the enduro that I ride is also be "to good" for me and my skills, too capable. Even on the gnarliest track I have the courage to ride.. And since I can only afford one, AND have not all the time in the world, I'm reaaly happy. The reserves one has with a DH I will propably never need. I ride a NOX 7.1 Hybrid Enduro eMTB with 180/180, Fox 38, DHx Coil.... Stay safe and keep on riding
I have a Capra Core 5 and a Cube Two15 as my park bike where the tracks are gnarly enough for it. A lot of "DH" bike park trails have corners which are too tight for a DH bike so you end up being significantly slower.
To be clear, I'm going off topic here and not trolling at all. I'm a duffer. Middle aged and just trying to enjoy a hobby. These trails look really easy though and I can't see why you'd ride such enormous suspension on them as an amatuer. I think the challenge is in how to use your elbows and knees to negotiate the bumps. I ride full sus trail bike but my friends ride hard tail on stuff twice as hard as this, Ultra gnarly stuff that I have to dismount regularly. They tell me they would never ride big sus though coz they'd lose their skills.
"Are Downhill Bikes Pointless?" that's offensively stupid question. I'm not interested in getting one as I'm mentaly more trials rider than speed demon, BUT for fawk sakes they are the the best for their designated discipline as other types of bikes are for theirs.
I've ridden Dyfi on my DH bike & on my 150 mm trail / enduro bike. DH way better at Dyfi. Also DH bike gives you more confidence to try scary features. Uplift venue gotta be the DH bike, otherwise enduro unless you enjoy pushing up.
I have so many trail networks with high elevations near me, but often no shuttling access, no friends to shuttle anyways cause community is super weird like that, and bike parks seem like a pretty big expense in general so if I ever do go to say Whistler which is across the water from me, one small ferry ride, I'd just rent a DH bike to ride there, although my local shop said my Trek Slash Enduro would do 90% or more of the trails at Whistler, just maybe not at the same speeds. Unless you live close enough to a bike park with lifts or cheap shuttling, there really isnt much point in owning your own DH bike, not when you can just rent one for that day and but own an Enduro or trail bike for your regular trails. Sure my local Mountain trails would probably be more fun on a DH bike but getting it up there would be a very long walk, some of the grades of the fire roads are over 25% which is really, really steep, sometimes I still have to walk some of it as not to burn out my legs, which is a horrible feeling when you finally do reach a summit and need your legs to function for downhill.
If I only rode uplift bike parks I'd only have a DH bike, but I don't so I have an enduro, but I'd consider a DH as a 2nd bike just for the special days at dyfi, BPW, revs etc. Even at 62yrs old......
I love the look of DH bikes...they are even cheaper than a good enduro bike....especially YT !!! but where I live there is almost not much usage for a DH bike...better a e-mtb or good enduro
Where I live in the West Midlands. There are some decent hills to ride down. Just not really doable with a dh bike. As there is no uplift. So a dh bike is overkill for me. In fact my Rallon is overkill for me. I just have hit features as hard on it as I would on a dh bike. to get the most out of it as I can.
Dh only for dh, unless you have so much money that you can buy both, then it makes sense. Otherwise Enduro can do either so there is your answer, Enduro is the best. But I feel the sport is geared towards people with a lot of money. So go get both!
I don't get Neil's view of things in the sense that if I'm going for a DH track on a trail bike or enduro I never open it up 100% since I'm afraid the thing will disintegrate, on a DH bike I can open up and smash knowing it's solid and travel will eat boulders the size of a human head 😂
I feel offended. Downhill Bikes are the best.! Look way cooler than any other bike cause it looks like motorcycle. Cause of the fork. The fat tires and the steep frame. ❤ more love for Downhill ❤

As a short travel trail bike guy, I'm going to definitively say that DH bikes are completely pointless for at least 90% of riders. Unless you're a pro or an expert amateur, you're not likely to push the limits of today's enduro bikes. But hell, even if you don't push the limits of an enduro, if you've got the desire and the means for a DH bike, then why not get one? Even if it is pointless...
why do bike a geo spec mentioning head angle and reach but leave out Chainstay , Chainstay makes such a big differance many bikes have got longer in reach but fail to get longer Chainstays and you get a unbalanced ride with having longer reach but short Chainstays

A good modern enduro bike can do basically everythinga DH bike can. The dh bike will just be alittle more comfortable doing so and alittle faster as well.
