@@vinesauce Watching you go back into your inventory and seeing you at 5 strength again with armor and a shield you couldn't use, then watching you get clapped because you couldn't dodge because you were wearing them... It hurt my soul, binyot.

I believe it used to be all monochrome (Not sure if that was just a beta thing or if it was changed after release), which is interesting to me. Big change.
Vinny, being king shit by highlighting non-predatory mobile games. I had almost given up on the platform entirely. I'm really thankful, because Slice N Dice has been such a fun game that me and the spouse bought it three times! One for me, and the others on both phone and computer for them! It's one of those small things in life that are making it bearable right now. Thanks, Vinny, if you see this! Your videos always make me happy to see!
Immense mood. Even my starting a new job last month was easier because, for the first time in years, I had something non-rage-inducingly greedy to fiddlejam with on my phone even with drastically reduced free time.
Finding non-predatory mobile games is always really nice, but they're so rare. I guarantee you that 99% of those good games are small indies (Cause of course they are. Mobile is a very accessible platform and indies have the potential to flourish there (I say potential cause they also have the chance of being drowned out by the more common predatory "Give me all your money, bitch" games, especially since a ton of 'em are from big companies (Lookin' at you, Square Enix-))).
Vinny, how would you feel about going back to Grimrock 2 and trying some of the good Custom levels/campaigns? "The Guardians" has been one of my favorites for a while. Though it's a successor to a previous campaign from the same creator, "Lost City", it just builds on the ideas present there and it's really just great.
Also vinny if you read the comments, i think you might "sort of" like the brandish series the PSP remake is easy to get into and there's a full translation for the second game. They play sort of like these games but in third person
39:00 is it just me, but isn’t the tune kind of like Broken by Tears For Fears?, I’m almost sure of it Specifically the end part of “Head Over Heels / Broken”
It makes me so happy to see mobile games that are actually good. If you're into roguelikes and want to try out another cool one on mobile, Pixel Dungeon is amazing. It also has a pretty dedicated community of "modders" who have released different versions of the game. My favorite is Shattered Pixel Dungeon.
I always wondered why there were so many versions of that game. I always kinda just assumed the worst and thought it was a bunch of people copying each other to make a quick buck. I like this reason much more than that one (For obvious reasons). Lol.
Spent a short time watching this and bought it for mobile, looks like a lot of fun and simple enough to control with minimum hassle for a phone game. Thank you for introducing us to games we may not have known about otherwise. 🙏
I also love roguelikes (the turn-based, tile-based sort with unidentified items) despite being shit at them. I don't think I've completed any ascents. But they're a lot of fun
I don't think we've ever actually forced Vinny to stream/play something he really didn't want to on some level. We've meme'd him into playing things, like DMC2/GALGUN/Japanese Karaoke, but most of those were charity incentives THAT HE SUGGESTED. See Also: Undertale
Hey whoever finds this comment, there's a game that's very similar to this on the phone, called Pixel Dungeon, it's free and very entertaining, it's pretty simple but open source meaning there's a whole lot of modified versions on the play market which add really fun things, drastically improving the game. I recommend you try it, bc if you liked this game you will for sure like Pixel Dungeon!
Holy shit this brings me back, I remember that old thing. Lol, as a kid I never understood why there were so many different versions of the same game, now I do.
psst for anyone who wants a live action version of this game but also multiplayer, please check out Barony. It's VERY good and the devs are pouring TONS of work into a console version right now. Or Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon for those who like the turn-based aspects!
this game seems like it'd be way cooler if the very first enemy you fight wasn't capable of taking you out if you haven't gotten lucky enough with finding good stuff but maybe hardcore roguelikes aren't my thing
I mean what do you expect from Blizzard now a days Vin? There are some good phone games like Fate Grand Order that have a gotcha mechanic but that give you plenty of resources to get through the entire game without having to roll once. (not to mention plenty of free premium currency through playing).
I'm no expert but this game seems particularly difficult, just a few unlucky hits and you're dead, I wish there was skills to deal with enemies or more reliable methods of healing because direct combat seems very inefficient, don't get me wrong, this is a good game but very luck based for a dungeon crawler, at least in my opinion
I can understand the difficultly, and i believe the idea of a simple game like this is that the skill comes from utilizing your memory and the mechanics to your advantage bc its so simple, 100% agree its difficult but it seems to reference old dos like first person rogue-likes of the era, that of which has lots of difficulty.
@@bsodcat yeah you're right, it's fair if the "old school" difficulty is what they're aiming for, there's nothing wrong with that, it's just not my cup of tea I guess
If the combat is lite and RPG-like, I always prefer these styles of dungeon crawlers over ones that are real-time. I think they turn out much better in practice than something like Grimrock, which unfortunately always turns into a game of kiting and exploiting enemy pathing. Obviously, if there's a much more expansive combat system, real-time can work a lot more. You need to have a "wait" button though in these games, otherwise it's more exploiting enemies coming to you by pressing up against a wall over and over again. I haven't seen if Vinny is using one or not yet (or if that hourglass icon is the button) but hopefully this game has one.
The DOOM RPG was actually the first thing I thought of alongside games like Eye of the Beholder. Have you seen Orcs & Elves which was based on the DOOM RPG engine?
I don't think we'll ever see a Grimrock 3. Iirc, I read years ago that the company went bankrupt and disbanded shortly after the release of Grimrock 2 and are sadly no more. It'll either be left to the Bard game devs to continue the Bard series or another indie dev to make a Grimrock-esque
Stone Soup is great, but hit chances are awful and you REALLY have to exploit levels to even stand a chance Even then a single enemy can wipe you in 2-3 turns if you're not careful by straight up summoning a tornado in your position or putting you to sleep and then wailing on you Add that the runs can last upwards of 6 hours and... yeah, not fun to loose
It was the potion of strength that gave you the +5 strength not the mace, broski.

Once again BeanSpread™ has become a Sneaky Archer

I thank you vinny, for playing all the weird roguelikes and such. It’s how i find a lot of games i end up loving.
What sets this apart is that it's turn based. There are very few first person dungeon crawlers with turn based combat anymore.
