It's great that all these old stories are getting another go round for those of us that missed them the first time. I just ordered both of these to go with the Monsterbus volumes.
Man this is one i never thought i d get but now i do!daaamn you Omar😋😉i m a sucker for these Twilight Zone type stories..the one in the bunker sold me!!! Ps that boy in "The Man in the Sky"is a dead ringer for early Peter Parker )))
Volume #1 was a surprise to me too. It's what pushed me to buy the Horror omni and tempting me to buy the Monster ones. Kinda wish they would have added the Spidey story from AF #15 at the end. It really seems like a culmination of the Lee/Ditko work presented here. Plus it was a suspenseful tale.
Another great video thanks Omar. With the recent marvel omnibus announcements for x-men would love to see you do an updated reading order for x-men when the are released later this year. Your are great providing an overview and context when reviewing each. Thanks again!
Thank you for the nice video!! I loved the first one and am of course picking up this one as well. Ditko's art looks amazing with the remaster specially...
Looks beautiful, I will get it. Nobody cares, but I got 2 letters printed in FF. In the late 80s and the second in early 2000s. The apex of my life.....hehehe sad
Thank you for another amazing review. QUESTION: Which one did you prefer in terms of stories/art? And no "It's like asking me to pick my favourite child" cop-out. :)
Does anyone know: was the famous (infamous) "Marvel Method" (with Lee providing the basic story idea, leaving the artist to flesh it out, then coming back later to script the dialogue) in play during this period, or did that only start with the super hero books?
Glossy pages are always a disincentive to buy. Gloss pages bounce light off the surface, giving no impression of depth to the illustrations. Matte pages give depth and better color gradients, but very few publishers realise this. And if you're going to reproduce vintage comics, matte pages are an essential quality that's missing here.
Hey Omar. Would you consider doing a live show where people can ask you comic book questions? Your knowledge is extensive and hoping to boost ur subscriber base with a new video idea. Let me know what you think. Thanks again!
Robert, thank you so much for that suggestion. Believe it or not even though I'm sure I come across as a know it all. I still worry if I do a Q&A Live video no one would show up. :) But you know what, I will do that for sure on a Friday evenging. I've been asked before and I love my subscribers so its time to start doing shows like that.
Near Mint Condition great thanks. If you do go ahead with it can you give all ur subscribers a ‘heads up’ so we can all prepare our questions. It will be a fun evening. 😀
Yo Omar! I have a question regarding Marvel Omnibus. Is it common for omnibus to have their binding get screwed up or the book being ruined over time like pages falling out etc? I am asking because I'm afraid to buy more omnibus with this fear,is it common?
@@NearMintCondition I do know that thanks to Gem Mint, but I think it would do your channel good too if you just did it aswell. I was just afraid if me Storing them vertically is gonna be a problem. I am planning to get that Thor Walter Simmonson Omnibus, have you had any problem with that? seeing as it is a 1200 page beast
Very interesting and great looking books sadly all my limited budget has gone for new X-Men, Spider-Man and Daredevil books. Thank you Omar for great video review and it is really great that Marvel provides you with all editions so one can see the final look of all upcoming editions. I hope you are getting new big X-Men box for review. 🍀🙏🖖
Finished my Kirby Monsterbus set in the past few days thanks to those Amazon coupons. Definitely getting these Ditkos. Love how they repackaged this material, because I’m interested in the stories but not getting the 15 Masterworks or whatever to cover it all. And the Journey into Mystery MMW stalled well before the Kirby/Ditko era since it predates the other Atlas era titles. Similar to Timely’s Greatest’s position, I’m not sure where they go next or if there’d be demand for any more. Not even familiar enough to make a guess. Are there enough stories from the likes of Don Heck, Gene Colan, etc. to fill an omnibus and would people care? I’d be intrigued at least...
Discerning readers will see those glossy pages and recoil. Gloss bounces the light off the pages and makes the artwork shallow and color and shading have no depth. Color looks especially digitized on glossy pages. This printing has little resemblance to the original pulp appearance. IDW Publishers lead the way with matte printing - - still not pulp stock but at least color and shading have depth on matte pages. But this Marvel Omnibus looks like a cheap (way too expensive) plastic replica of the real thing specially designed for people who don;t know enough to see the difference. Ignoramuses will be blissful about this Omnibus.
I was tempted by these, but seeing those shallow gutters and the inability of the book to open flat really put me off. I thought Marvel were better than DC at producing these kinds of volumes, but it looks like they've dropped the ball.

Missed the first time around?? Most of us werent even born yet!
Definitely picking this up! Hope they do more creators under the Marvel Masters of Suspense umbrella.
I hope so as well and I need to get the two Kirby Monster omnis.

I can see that, since it was Ditko after all. :)
Definitely my cup of tea. I’ve preordered it way back, really looking forward to it landing.
It's just as good, if not better.

I think that book has been reprinted in so many other books, maybe they wanted to take a break from it.
hell ye I'm getting this! I hope it sells well, I loved the first one more than I thought I would and damn digging the red under the dust jacket.
I hoipe they keep making them, my friend. Other creator centric books from the era.
Aw yeah! You know we loves those old letters pages! 🙌
More of us!!

Thank you so much for the kind words and I was already planning on that as soon as Uncanny 4 comes out. :)
You know this is a like "run to the shop the minute it opens and grab it" purchase for me.
I remember you digging the first one.
Don’t all comic nerds ‘need a friend’ ? Thanks for these reviews.
Yes we do.
Will pick up both when Vol 2 comes out. I love the work of Steve Ditko. Great video Omar, as usual!
Thank you my friend.

Danny! I freaking care. Do you remember what issues they were?
@@NearMintCondition of course ...
Bromar I forgot all about this book! I still have to buy the first one! I love this stuff.
Here is your reminder.

Volume 2 for sure. :)
I think this one is way more important than the first imo I had the first volume but my Copy was banged up I'll probably get them both
Haven't finished reading the first volume yet, must get back to that one. Looking forward to this second volume, thanks for this teaser.
Thank you for watching.

Hey Omar thanks for great content my dude!! Tell marvel to finish the tomb of Dracula pleeeeease
I know man, I need reprints of 2 and 3. :)
Want to say that the mutant story got reprinted way back in the late 90s in “X-Men Archives” as a possible first appearance of Prof X.

This is why I don't mind Matte paper on silver age or even early bronze age books.

You are going to love it.
Do you think they would ever collect these in trade paper back?
Omar is David
Do we have New Warriors omnibus volume 2? no... not David. :)
Omar you make the best reviews man 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thank you so much, hermano.
I do the same thing. This long weekend I've been reading Cataclysm/no man's land.. been reading Marvell Horror when I need a break.
So glad to hear you do the same.
Thanks for making this video. Really awesome book. On my want list.
Thank you so much for watching. :)
Omar, would you suggest volume 1 or 2 if I am dropping into these stories for the first time? Do you think one collection is better than the other?
I enjoyed volume 2 a little more. But that's just me.
@@NearMintCondition Awesome, thanks! I'll start there, then.

i want me some Paul Reinman.
I think there might be enough for a thin omnibus. I would be all over that too.
Great review Omar! If you had to designate one X-Men Omni as your absolute favorite, what would it be?
Uncanny volume 3. :)
I just bought my computer of vol 1 and then I get this surprise holy shit :D
This one is jsut as good, if not better.
Omar, did you think creating a Telegram group for the channel yet?
I haven't, but that would be great. We have a FB group and Instagram.
These 2 cover all of the pre silver age ditko marvel work? Kirby was using mutants as far back as the golden age by the way.
I know there is a whole debacle about the first mutant. Namor? Maybe.
@@NearMintCondition I never considered namor a mutant myself just my opinion
Same here. But It has been retconned.
What story did Kirby use a mutant?
cool

I didn't have an issue with these like I did the flat spines.
It's a pity that the Marvel published this material at color. The B&W art of Ditko was awesome!
I'd like to see the black and white stuff.
