Hi Anna - Just a suggestion that may help. After you put down the blue tape, try brushing a thin coat of white paint over the edge you are going to swipe & give it a quick hit with your blow dryer to dry it. That should help "seal" the tape, reducing the amount of the darker paint from getting under the tape. Now when you add the paint colors you'll swipe, they will easily flow over the painted tape and the white pillow paint you laid down.
Yesssss, thank you! My first ever swipe seahorse is drying now and I love it! I used yellow Tamiya Modeler's tape for my masking and it worked perfectly. I also applied a line of matte modge podge around the inside edge of my masking tape to help seal it and that helped also.

I love that you do a step-by-step tutorial, basically on how you are perfecting your seahorse. I have now gathered all of my paint including the Floetrol and silicone. I just have to go and get a small canvas. What I'm trying to do is to make little tiles all around my bathroom enclosure. Using the Stone Coat Countertops walk-in shower tutorial. However, mine is going to be with a twist. Praying it works. You are an amazing artist. Thank you for everything you are willing to us. Again there is no small detail that you could do that is boring.
This one was so much better maybe because you've already made one it could be because you're using a better piece of canvas it didn't bleed as much as the first one and again I'm ecstatic for you and I hope that you get recognized as the artist that you truly are again congratulations and many more successes to come

Hi Sabrina, thanks so much! If you’re new to pouring and want to try this one, I STRONGLY recommend doing a basic micro swipe before you try to add the shaped elements. That way you know you have your mixture and technique good to go. If you’re using floetrol as your medium, you can varnish in as little as 5-7 days from painting. Some higher quality paints and other mediums require a much longer cure time, but I’ve been successful with relatively short cures when using craft paint and floetrol. I have a varnishing video in my Tips and Tricks playlist! I use Liquitex basics gloss varnish.
Green painters tape will provide a better barrier than blue. It adheres to the surface when moisture hits it and it can be peeled off when everything is dry.

Yes I mix all my paints about 2 parts floetrol to one part paint, then thin with water. You can use house paint for the background color, just mix it the same as your other colors. I use spot on treadmill silicone, but I have also had good luck with OGX coconut milk hair serum.
Very beautiful…very tempted to do this sea horse. One thing though I like it when it’s glossy, shinny. When it’s dry the is a little dull. What do we put on the painting to have it shiny.

Anna you mentioned not getting a perfect seal on your canvas with the blue tape..I remember someone in the previous seahorse comments suggesting you use a hairdryer to warm the glue. A lot of people agreed with that suggestion. Good luck.
I sketched the front edge of the seahorse on parchment paper, then laid tape over the lines. I then flipped the paper over and cut on the line (it was see-through enough to tell where to cut)

I don’t know that I’d go much smaller than 10x20” just because it’s hard to get the proportions right…my very first try was 11x14” and was cool but not nearly as good as the 12x24” size, and honestly a lot is due to the proportions of the cells to the seahorse overall.

Hi! I’ve heard of it but never used it. I have learned that a hair dryer helps the tape stick more. And I’m planning for some paintings where it’s more important for the paint not to leak out underneath, so I may try masking fluid for that!
So sorry, I looked into Spanish subtitles but there is no automatic way to add them! It would take hours of transcription for me to do it on a video this length… 😢
Hey, just an FYI, u don't need PERMISSION to do ur own version of a price of art... Especially given this medium, no 2 will be the same. The reality is that anyone can do their own version of a seahorse and I guarantee u that many many people have before any videos went up. Since art is art, it's YOUR version. U would need permission to print and sell exact copies however. I just think it's important that ur viewers are aware of this so they do not feel restricted in what they can do.
I’m confused how you think I’m requiring people to ask permission before they try this at home… I do, however, think that it’s ethical to give credit where credit is due! Which is what I’ve tried to do.
