5 EUR entrance. Hosts everything found on or near the acropolis. The setup is really excellent and gives you a very good idea how the acropolis actually looked in both it's forms (before 480 b.c. and the form we know today).

Yes, that was my most favorite place to visit when I lived there. It is probably the best place in all of Greece to see. Also, Mount Olympus is great, and the gold market there is a great stop. If you do go to Greece, get out to see the islands they are a must, especially for the young and single crowd! You won't regret it I promise!

Hi Mark, great video and your enthusiasm is catching. Here's my tip for newbies to Athens: *Lake Vouliagmeni* . It's a secluded little lake in the south suburbs of Athens and some would say Athens' best kept secret. It's def worth a visit when in Athens. It's about a 25 minute car ride from downtown Athens but you can also get there by tram from Syntagma Square (once at final tram stop grab a taxi to lake). Plus it's near the beaches along the Athenian Riviera some of which are very pleasant. Lived in Athens for 5 years and loved hitting the beaches and the lake so hope my advice is useful to your viewers. Thanks for sharing brought back wonderful memories of sunny Athens!

Kudos from a proud Athenian! It really shows that you had 'friends in high places' so to speak, as the restaurants you mentioned are even unknown to me. It's good you avoided the common tourist traps of downtown Athens, as it appears you now have a more realistic and genuine picture of what the city 'feels' like. Imagine that my best mate and I regularly hang out on Philoppapos Hill with a couple of beers (or ten). It's especially magical at night, but be cautious of the alarmingly increasing crime rates around that area. Excellent video, will definitely try out some of the eateries you recommended ;-)

(If COVID-19 restrictions are lifted) and I'd really like to experience Philoppapos Hill during the evening. We 4 females that will be traveling together. Would you say this is really too dangerous to be around there after dark for us? I'd appreciate your personal recommendation. Thanks! Laura

A Little tip from a local: DONT GO TO SANTORINI. None of my greek friends had a fun time there. In summer it's wayyy overcrowded and veeery, very, very expensive. Chose another island instead. Milos for instance is a very beautiful island :)

If you absolutely must go to Santorini, go during autumn or spring. Try to be there as "off season" as possible and don't stay more than 2-3 days. The beaches are nothing to write home about and you can go through the important stuff in 48 hours.

Mark, as an Greek expat , I have to say that I am glad I ran into your videos on Greece. They were good examples of what one can do in a few days. The thing I advise people is to just relax, let things happen, and don't try to fit everything in!The Greek people are generally hospitable and friendly, and if you don't behave like a jerk, they will be more than nice to you.Having said that, at least in Athens (and all big cities), you have to be mindful of yourbelongings (wallets, cameras etc) on the Metro.I took a group of 8 people this spring to Athens/Crete, and one person got pick-pocketedon the Metro. Unfortunately, there are some unsavory elements that have infiltrated citiesin Greece, and they do what they know best!Having said that, Greece is a very safe country overall. Please don't take this the wrong way, because I realize food is your focus, but a little homework on the history of the places you visited, would have made the experience that much richer for you.I made it a point to give some background on the history and significance of the places we visited to my group before we left, through a series of emails.Sorry you missed the museum, do it next time, but brush-up on your art history first!take care!

I was watching this thinking, 'damn I wish I had this when I was travelling to......'; I watch all your other food videos which also covers food more in depth for each destination but I think this would be a good for someone who is just looking for a quick guide to each city they plan to visit when planning their holiday.

Very nice my friend, thank you for the positive attitude towards my home city. Accurate report so far, still there are a lot of missing points, and that is very understandable given the limited time of a tourist' s stay and the huge number of things one must see or experience in this amazing place. To start with, let me correct you on something: Truth is that there are at the moment only three lines of the Athens metro -there are more under construction, one is starting next year - but these three do not certainly cover only the center of the city. They are long enough to cover all the areas from beyond its very north east (airport) to the very south west ( Ag. Marina), its very west( Anthoupoli) to its very south east (Hellinico) and its very south (Port of Piraeus) to its very north (Kifissia), and of course there is also the Tram, which is in a way the metro to the very south suburbs along the coast. This ride along this amazing coast (the so called Athens riviera) is certainly one of the very "musts" you have obviously missed in Athens. Your reference to the city museums was also extremely limited. Don't tell me you stayed in Athens without visiting the new Acropolis museum, one of the worldwide top museums, not to mention the Benaki one, the Byzantine museum etc.! One of the top things in the city is also since some time ago, the Niarchos cultural center, a big park not very far from Koukaki where you stayed, near the Faliro coast, where the new buildings of the National Opera and the National Library are also located. I could also mentioned old monasteries, the olympic center where the 2004 Olympic games took place, the Dionisiou areopagitou pedestrian zone along the south slope of the acropolis with the Roman odeon and the Dionysus ancient theater (that's where the first drama performances took place), the Zappio and national gardens (in the very center between the Parliament house and the Zeus temple)etc etc... Anyway, last but not least i think that a very must for tourists in Athens, is among others, a daily cruise to the very near historic islands of Attica bay (Spetses, Hydra, Poros etc) and a visit to Nafplion (the historic neoclassical town nearby, first capital city of the modern Greek State, two hundred years ago...
Still, i think you have done an excellent job my friend, thanks again!!!

Mark, this was a nice video but it should be bigger.Perhaps you should show us the new Acropolis museum, the Archaological museum of Athens and the Academy of Athens next to the national library which are spectacular buildings.Perhaps next time Mark, take care!
