I have been to Athens several times. I love their local food!! I can never get enough of their delicious cuisines! Greece remains my favourite destination!!
We went there today, it’s locals restaurant, the food was really good and big portions they give, also the owner is such a nice guy, when we said we are Mark’s followers he was delighted and gave us Greek dessert for free💗
I watched this over 3 years ago (pre-covid) when I was researching for my holiday to Greece in 2020... that never happened! Currently in Athens and today we ate at diporto! It was amazing!!!
You know how some days you don't feel like cooking? Well Mark inspires me to go home a create a good meal, I'm on dialysis and his videos helps me sit through the 4 hours i"m on the machine. I love his smile, his eye. and his family. Thanks Mark, keep the videos coming and God Bless you and your family.
Micah is such a great kid, seems to really love the travelling, so good natured, he will grow up a well rounded human being, and with a healthy appetite like his dad
This vlog reminded me of when i was 13 and i had made some friends on the beach. I could barely speak english or greek and they ofc werent that much better with their english. But we played everyday together and they showed me some cool places around their town and similar restaurants and street food shops. One of the other kids was the son of a chef in one of the restaurants and in the evenings he gifted us some free foods and sweets while we were sitting down there in the kitchen. The places you showed us strongly reminded me of back then
This made my day! I'm Greek. Most of us in Athens know Diporto. It's a classic! The way you savour the food, and know how to eat puts a smile on my face!! Much love !
Omg I love my country so much, I feel so blessed that I'm Greek. I'm glad you tried traditional Greek food, you tried dishes that we actually eat daily! I love that you are so informed and appreciative of everything. God bless your beautiful family, this video made me smile!
anastasia profitou Anastasia I am about to visit your country and I am super excited! I have a question for you: how much I can get away with English? I didn’t get to learn Greek , I don’t think I will have enough time tho.
These cold days in the north I long for Greece.. What I love the most is that whether you go to the mainland or one of the beautiful islands, it's always something new - a new local twist to the ever-so-great food. I've eaten some of the best stews in Crete, some of the best meat dishes in Athens, and possibly the best greek salad in Chios and a fava bean stew to die for in Lesvos. Not to forget the hole in the wall restaurant in Rhodes gave me the most wonderful gyro experience. But wherever you go, great people and great food.
Can we have more tourists like you, pleaseeee? Can you make a tourist school to train them before they come here? Seriously, I haven't seen many tourists (and I work in tourism sector) being so respectful and excited at the same time. Also, you couldn't have chosen better restaurants/taverns for the center of Athens.
Mark does his homework and his goal is always to show a culture and it's food in the best light by being that way he also shows himself and family in their best light someone you like to know
@karışık kuruyemiş nope it isn’t Turkey dos not have food from there own they jst copying Arabic persian foods and mixes to gather and culling thm turkish food
I actually can't wait to go back to Greece after lockdown here in Australia. Greek people have go to be a very strong and prided culture of people. Direct and down to earth no bullshit aside. They tell you what they think, they are happy to help you, they are hospitable, they do not care who you are, you are always welcome. The children of most Greek people are mature and respectful of elderly people, help their neighbors like no tomorrow. The Greeks are also very intelligent, I mean the foundations of mathematics and science comes from there. They are all about family and helping each other. Thats why even though they had an economic crisis, they survive, because they know how! I love the Greeks they are by far my favourite people and I have visited over 80 countries.
OMG I'm needing some greek food! I lived in Athens for 2 months back in 1981. This brought back so many memories. I must say of all my travels, Greece has the best food ever!
Come you will feel like home here. You will be home actually , people will regard you as a friend and not a tourist and a bag of money. All you need is a genuine smile , that is all.

This was the first Mark Wiens video I stumbled across. I liked how wholesome and positive he was. Five years later, his videos are the first I look for. He makes me want to keep travelling, meet the locals and try their food.
Such delicious foods and what a lovely city. I cannot believe that this city is right on our European doorstep and I (Maxi) have never been there! Maro has lived 15 years on Crete so she cooks these foods very well at home and I love them. Safe travels to you all wherever you are! Best Regards from Maxi and Maro.
Even though I haven't got a chance to travel the world food, but you already brought me to many amazing places, Mark! You are a hero of your beloved family💐
This is the video that i am waiting for! The famous acropolis! You can visit more historical sites in Athens like Hadrian arch and the temple of olympian zeus. If you still like the Olympic history, do visit an ancient site in Olympia where the torch lighting ceremony is carried out using the traditional sun method.
Yong De Tan I have been to the ceremony multiple times; it's awesome to see. Also they often ask school students to carry the torch as well (for a small distance)..very cool.
The Spanish are not wonderful! I livid ther for 4 years. They are very clicky and once they know you not a tourist they cut you off...it's all Manana... ER don't think so...when it comes money it's now.....
I love your travels Mark. Thank you for this trip to Greece. I've never been there but it feels like home in my heart. Much love to you & your family. May you keep inspiring us.
I usually never watch vlogs like this , for some reason your video popped up. Didn't regret watching 24 mins , you're such a happy dude having such a positive attitude. Wish you all the best man , greetings from greece !
Thanks for sharing Mark. I with to Greece on my honeymoon.Athens was just one of stops and it was beautiful. Thanks for taking me back. I love Greece 🇬🇷
Truly humbling to see someone who is so happy about food, sharing experiences with new people and just traveling with his family. I enjoy watching your videos 👍
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I lived in Athens, Greece back in the 80's So much has changed but yet so much of it still looks familiar, and I miss the food. You cant get that type of Souvlaki Pita bread anywhere else.
Know what works really well with souvlaki? Naan. Inspired by Mark, and with a random pork t-loin in my fridge and all of the other ingredients on hand, I made a batch of souvlaki a couple of days ago. I threaded new crop farmers market yellow onion slices between the pork chunks, and grilled it, and topped it with a mix of yogurt and homemade Pico de Gallo; the naan is easier to bend, and less bready, and doesn't get soggy. Mark's eyes would have rolled all the way back in his head!
Hi Mark. my name is John, i am Greek i reside close to the seaside, in a town called Glyfada, near the "vlaxika" taverns where you went to have the tasty lamp chops in another episode. So, about the souvlaki : it is a sooo underestimated food, it is considrered as "junk" food by many not to say most greeks, can you imagine? the tastier dish, the corner stione of our kitchen, and is considered as ..unhealthy! . I, as greek, and as a personal trainer who takes care of a balanced and organic diet i tell you, it can be a very very nutricional and complete dish if tyou cook it with less fatty olive olis, and a whole grain pita!!
Wow, they were working on the acropolis in 2010 when I was there, too. Love the food in Greece - the best food I had in Europe (also Spain). It's one of my most favourite places on earth. Huge part of my heart is still in Greece. I can't wait to go back. Maybe next year!
Yep! They are working at one side at a time so the place can still be visited. They are working slowly as this is a very sensitive project. Projection for completion is 2020 I think..
you need a good diet first🤣 .... then in Greece be sure you 'll take back double kg haha... it's so hard to choose between our dishes and sweets as well.... good luck and wish you be back in Greece soon 😊
I saw an interview with the lead archeologist, and she estimated the reconstruction will take more than 20 years from the time of filming the reportage.. It was something with the stones only fitting to a single spot because they are all a few milimeters rounded so they appear straight from afar making it a huge puzzle.. Hope ill be alive to visit it fully reconstructed!
Restoration started at the 70s and will keep on till 2025 or 2030. It is unavoidable as work is extremely sensitive while making accurate lost parts is like matching a 3 d puzzle
I'm going to Athens next week and came across this video.. and I'm so glad I did! I absolutely loved seeing how much joy trying these foods brought you. I will definitely be visiting a couple of these restaurants!
Mark your videos helped my wife and I a lot with picking where and what to eat while we were in Athens on our honeymoon! I hope the situation with covid improves soon so we can have more travels!!
Haha, I finally see Micah eat what you eat, the bread of the breakfast. That breakfast is beautiful. Then you said "I'll have a quick dinner." Normally that means a sandwich or instant noodles for most people, then there were FIVE huge full plates by yourself!! Hahaha!
Thank you for the wonderful tour of Athens. I appreciate time you took out of your busy schedule to take us. Many of us will never get the chance to visit places like this, but you Mark open the gates for us to catch a glimpse of beauty and history. Thank you very much to you and your family and sometimes your friends👊😊
I’ve been seeking ‘the food of my people’ for many years now and I read online today about the delicious food in Greece. This is my first search and I am blown away. How marvelous.
Mark and Ling, thank you for sharing your experience in Greece. I enjoyed it very much. I appreciate you sharing it. In addition, I enjoy your Instagram feed as well. Thank you for everything.
Mark if you ever visit Greece again especially if it’s winter ask for drop egg soup with lots of lemon. They make it with either chicken legs or with beef meatballs. I promise it will blow you away especially if there is a lot of foam formed after they beat it hard the eggs.
As usual, I love how positive your videos always are and how much you enjoy and respect the food and culture of whatever country you are visiting. My only complaint is that you didn't have any tzatziki to put on that delicious looking souvlaki!!!
I have been watching your Videos for few years. Your presentation has improved dramatically and now I regularly watch it almost everyday. Also I admire your devotion to your family and so also your wife Yin's commitment for building up a close knit family. Good luck Mark...
Not long ago in another video i comment "Mark you should come to Greece" and you did it :) thnx for your good words for my country next time i hope i can make you a home made dinner to die for :) god have you and your family strong and healthy Mark...
I’m currently living in Athens for over two years, each summer I travel to the islands..it’s paradise. The food the culture the history. Hope you and your family will come back, lots has changed since then. Watching this was nice but you should have had someone that truly showed you life changing experiences.
You and your wife are so admirable you ‘re always together with your adorable son mikah even though is not easy to travel with baby but still you’re always taking them with you , you guys are so admirable❤️❤️❤️GOD BLESS
I'm admiring this guy for taking his wife and son wherever he go. A loving husband and a good father. More power to you Mark.
Chari Dela Cruz I Agree with you
Its not hard to follow man for women. I think huge applauds should be given to his wife instead. Coping with babies and travelling. thats tough.
The whole family is incredible...Mark respects his wife and take cares of his son...and Ying is supporting him in the best way anyone can😊😊

@Rizla I don't agree with you. Is the obesity epidemic in USA due to psychological issues in half of the population or is the longevity of the okinawans all due to their good psychological condition? What about the Greek island Crete? If anything, we Greeks should have a very low life expectancy due to the economical crisis that has affected nearly all of us. Mark you're the inspiration for those who thinks that travelling with a family is more complicated than alone /with friends.
Loved it❤
This was the first Mark Wiens video I stumbled across.
Greece food and culture it is similar to lebanese one

Its so sweet how Mark carefully holds Micah while he's eating and explaining about the food all at the same time.
As a Romanian i really like Greek food its one of my favorite
Love love to watch your over and over again
Especially Greece 🇬🇷 food are my favorite

Long time ago I lived in Greece. I was very young and beautiful and alone , Greek people very respect women and I feel safe.Thank you
Thanks for sharing Mark. I with to Greece on my honeymoon.Athens was just one of stops and it was beautiful. Thanks for taking me back. I love Greece 🇬🇷
Get out
Mark you are genuinely kind and gracious not to mention respectful, I love your personality.
They are working on the Acropolis since the 70's or something... I don't think they will ever stop... haha
you need a good diet first🤣 .... then in Greece be sure you 'll take back double kg haha... it's so hard to choose between our dishes and sweets as well.... good luck and wish you be back in Greece soon 😊
Greek food is always the best
Mark your videos helped my wife and I a lot with picking where and what to eat while we were in Athens on our honeymoon! I hope the situation with covid improves soon so we can have more travels!!
I love the greeks they are so nice (: and there food makes me feel cozy 😍😛
Expensive..locals would pay half that
It's nice to have family together while at tour... Happy family 👪 travel for food. Yeah
Many of us will never get the chance to visit places like this, but you Mark open the gates for us to catch a
glimpse of beauty and history.
Your baby is so adorable! As a parent it is so hard to take a baby out when you dine out, but your little guy is so well behaved and happy!!
Manners start at home.
I am spanish and I have to say greek food is FANTASTIC !
You just made me wanna visit Greece which I haven't seen so far. I am sure there is more to see there besides delicious food. Love from Turkey !!
Also, my dear friend, Greece is orthodoxy. Read about it. Just a line...
I enjoy the fact your family is enjoying Culinary delights... from diverse places. Plz be safe, and keep recording... love the vids
Mark if you ever visit Greece again especially if it’s winter ask for drop egg soup with lots of lemon. They make it with either chicken legs or with beef meatballs. I promise it will blow you away especially if there is a lot of foam formed after they beat it hard the eggs.
Love the deep history of greece. The food, the people and the culture. Thx mark.
It was great to show fantastic ancient ruins in Athens. I want to visit there. Great job!
If that kid grows up to be afraid of airplanes i think there might be a problem
Love this channel! I cannot stop watching. Micah is adorable.
