I love Crete and have been many times. Once we stayed in Rethymnon and one evening went searching for somewhere to eat, away from the tourist areas. At the end of an alley we saw some faint light and went for a look. There were 3 tables, surrounded by grape vines in the courtyard of a very very old building. My wife speaks Greek and we met the owner who invited us to look in her kitchen. No menu, 4 or 5 dishes, fish, meat, vegetables, that's it, laid out on her worktop. We sat down, and the table filled with food. The lady even ran somewhere, to get our preferred drink's as she didn't have it in her kitchen. That meal, is one of my most memorable meals, ever. Simple food, cooked perfectly. A very special place.

Hey Mark, we recently went to this restaurant. It was an incredible experience the chef is such an awesome person, we hugged him at the end, thank you for making this video!!
I’ve been to Greece twice and I will never forget all the beautiful memories. Greeks are hospitable, warm and friendly people. Their cuisine touches ones soul. Never made it to Crete though. This video just brought me to tears soon as reality hits me. It will take a while before tourism can go back to how it was pre-pandemic. Greek people are amazing. Really friendly and helpful. Pretty linked to their friends, family and heritage. To be honest, as a Brazilian, greek people were the closest in Europe to the latin heat. Great footage!
I went to Creta for vacation more than 10times, last October being the latest. One of the best food experience if you like Mediterranean rustic style. But Cretan people are also the spice to the whole story. Amazing natural people that make you feel so welcome.
Thanks Mark. As a Turk I especially loved your videos from Greece. Reminds me that we're the same and I love it. The owner asking about 4th child and at the end you see that he returns some more money to Mark which basically says he made a very special discount for them is absolutely great. Gotta love these people! Peace Komsu!
Thanks man! Love from Greece!! I've only come to your capital and some rides around there, when I was VERY little. I don't remember much, other than it was beautiful and we had a great time everywhere.

You're absolutely right! Have been to this island 10 times and my parents even have like 5 more stays and allways in the beautiful Georgioupolis! A part of my mom who sadly died last year is now a part of Crete.
Back in 1992 I received my orders to Crete. I found one book with some info on the island. That place was one of the best years of my life. With the internet, the secret is out. One day I will go back.
The cooking farmer, what an absolutely wonderful human being. Everyone should know their craft as well as he does and if everyone was as hospitable as he is, what a wonderful world it would be.
I've just eaten lunch here today. It's extraordinary and worth the challenge of finding it up in the mountains. Goat, lamb, the very best salad I have ever had, lots of great vegetarian dishes and a truly rustic and authentic setting. Go, go, go. Head for Drakona. The restaurant is outside the village about 1K and is written Dounias or Ntounias. Not many signs but keep going until you see it. Worth every kilometre!

Food looked amazing, hospitality was out of this world, Generosity was out of this world, to give you your money back, rarely unseen in this world, bringing so many cultures together, with the love of food, you rock Mark, great family you have,
The food in Crete is hmm it’s like eating in heaven. The farmers markets with all the beautiful produce is a must! Eating in the little village, makes you understand what food is and should be all about. Ohh I miss you Crete.. so do my taste buds.
My mind is blown! I visited Crete two times already, and just wanted to see some of the atmosphere and food in this video, but this Farm/Restaurant is truly mindblowing! The way how they farm all their food and how they cook it traditionally and the passion for food is so unique and amazing. I need to go there some time. I knew about greek food and hospitality before but this is special.
This guy's farm/tarevn is the epitome of hard work and dedication. Because it goes so much more than just grilling some meat of making a messy salad with some local olive oil. Salute
Unbelievable, you greeks are extremely different from the other Europeans. I think you are one of the most hospitable and kindest people not only in Europe but also in the world. You are very much different from for example Germany or even France. Although Italians, Spanish and Portuguese are very kind and friendly but I don't think that they are as kind as you.
As long as there is love in the world with people who are willing to share it, the beauty of humanity shines brightly no matter who we are. Love may shine brightly in a different hue depending on where we find ourselves but it still shines no matter what. Thanks for the video, Mark.
@Nati Raymond. Palestine is the territory that is now comprised of parts of the State of Israel and the whole of the Palestian Authority territories. Prior to the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, it was a territory mandated to Great Britain and prior to that a province of the Ottoman empire. The name Palestine is derived from a native people of the region, the Philistines.
The stuffed flowers were from the zucchini, it is called anthous which means blossom, it is a rice with herbs and grated zucchini and carrot. We Greeks eat them in the Summer season and and vegetarian, nice served cold the next day. Eleni from Cyprus!
Absolutely wonderful ... my husband and I are here in Livadia, Western Crete but leaded to Kalamitsi Amygdali (near Chania) next Saturday and we will definitely make a reservation and eat there. Loved your infectious enthusiasm and great sense of humor. We are both foodies and your video provided just the motivation we needed to drive up to Ntounias! Thank you!
Cretans are a quite special people, just as Greece is a special country. I know only Crete, and can't speak much for mainland Greece, but I can honestly say that his experience in this restaurant in Crete was the rule rather than the exception here. Very good video. I like his uninhibited enthusiasm, which do not think is affected in any way..
My daddy is from Crete and his soul is pure , Crete is in my blood.Love the Cretans because they still hold the soul of Greece. Their food is excellent.
I absolutely love Mediterranean food, one my 1st choice and go to foods. The goat cooking in that Cretan pot looks amazing but the salad omg i would dive in to that head 1st. It look refreshingly delicious!
These last videos in Greece have been the best by far, you seem more relaxed, nice people around you...and just a level of happiness about your videos here. Really impressed.
The beauty of simplicity. This is Greece even in its food. Excellent food, not because of complicated cooking recipes, but because of the excellent quality of the ingredients, which are prepared with a lot of love
That video brought so many smiles to my face, your joy is contagious. You are truly living the dream and yet you are humble, kind and have such a vibrant personality. I agree with everyone, this was one of the best videos to date. God Bless you, Ying and Micah. ❤️ from Australia
This is the kind of thing I would love to experience. Fresh from farm to table, made by the owner of the farm with love and passion. It's like going to your uncles house for a family gathering. What an awesome place.
I need to go there next time I visit Crete. It’s by far my most favorite place to go on holiday . The people there are so friendly and welcoming and the island are so beautiful
Priceless experience. The real deal cultural food. My partner and I were in Crete earlier that year and it's just what we search for anywhere in the world where the cuisine of indigenous peoples are unaffected by time.
Love Crete. For me this is paradise on earth. As a norwegian i always feel welcome in Crete. Very friendly peoples, and the weather is always nice! And the vegetables is the juciest i have ever eaten

An advice from a local: if you want to try out genuine Greek food and the traditional way of life, visit tavernas that are up in the mountains. They are less touristy and they're keeping it real, in contrast to some touristic places by the sea.
There is nothing better than Greek food, especially Cretan food. I miss Greece so much. I hope I can live there again one day. Long Live Greece and God Bless America.
@markwiens we traveled all the way from NYC to eat here today. The food, location, and hospitality all lived up to the hype. We are only in Crete for a few days but will be coming back. This place is a national treasure.
I would give my soul to live in a farm like that and have that type of lifestyle, in a country, eating off of the land and just enjoying what God gave us. It's great to see that there are good people in this world still. God bless Adam and the owner of that Cretan farm.
The chef in this video is the ultimate chefs chef. Absolutely correct, forget the menu and let the chef serve the dishes from within himself. Something to really adore and appreciate.

Food looked amazing, hospitality was out of this world, Generosity was out of this world, to give you your money back, rarely unseen in this world, bringing so many cultures together, with the love of food, you rock Mark, great family you have,
its really amazing bro.1000%
The food in Crete is hmm it’s like eating in heaven. The farmers markets with all the beautiful produce is a must! Eating in the little village, makes you understand what food is and should be all about. Ohh I miss you Crete.. so do my taste buds.
I miss my beautiful country a lot!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!
Salute
the sounds from the guy cooking on his farm was heaven 😍👌❤ the farm was amazing!!!! what a magical place.
Thank you for your kind words!!!I hope one day you can come to Greece and experience all these!!!😁
You cannot judge people based upon nationalities, everyone is an individual.
Thankyou for your beautiful comment ❤
As long as there is love in the world with people who are willing to share it, the beauty of humanity shines brightly no matter who we are.
Love may shine brightly in a different hue depending on where we find ourselves but it still shines no matter what.
Thanks for the video, Mark.
I agree
My daughter moved to Crete from Alaska, I’d love to tell her about this farm so she and her husband could experience it!
In hersonissos (heraklion region )live a big family from alaska
greek tomatoes are out of this world
Lots of love to Crete from Palestine.
From where?
That cool owner given money back
@@emanuell5926 from Palestine
@@eddiewest1201 What is palestine?
@Nati Raymond. Palestine is the territory that is now comprised of parts of the State of Israel and the whole of the Palestian Authority territories. Prior to the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, it was a territory mandated to Great Britain and prior to that a province of the Ottoman empire.
The name Palestine is derived from a native people of the region, the Philistines.
Cow is mad lol
Love how the goats just come running when the guy called them 🐐
The stuffed flowers were from the zucchini, it is called anthous which means blossom, it is a rice with herbs and grated zucchini and carrot. We Greeks eat them in the Summer season and and vegetarian, nice served cold the next day. Eleni from Cyprus!
So much of this food is good served cold the next day, it's only the salad you have to use at once!
This is by far the best type of AUTHENTIC BACKYARD FARM TO TABLE DISH. no wonder people have long life over here❤️👍🏻🤘🏼❤️
Absolutely beautiful the only way to eat purely from the land... Amazing loving people culture and all just love it 😍💞😍💞
In my opinion, this is by far the best Episode
Amazing joyful atmosphere
I like his uninhibited enthusiasm, which do not think is affected in any way..
i love that u got away from expensive overpriced restaurant food. I've never heard of Crete before today and now its on my bucket list!
This is one of my favourite vlogs. The stunning scenary, beautiful kind people and delicious food. 👍
Thank you Steve!
I agree, this have been my favorite episode so far, i love it!
It look refreshingly delicious!
the man who has the farm is a friend of me i have go there many many times :D all the things in there is amazing
This is literally like heaven for me! So glad the Greeks are still in touch with nature in this way!
These last videos in Greece have been the best by far, you seem more relaxed, nice people around you...and just a level of happiness about your videos here. Really impressed.
at the end the owner gave him his money back he did not charge him nothing and that's the greek hospitality and greek spirit
Gave him change from a fifty maybe? Whatever.
last year i spent 2 months in Chania. absolute JOY of a lifestyle.
bustinasscoach May I ask what you enjoyed more?
When you hear Mark impressed over SALAD! You know the food must be good in Crete. . .
The food in Crete and my home city of Thessaloniki in Northern Greece is the best in the whole country. Love from New York.
Did you had the chance?
(Should I remind you??)
The people, the scenery, the music, and of course the food... GORGEOUS!! One of my favorite vlogs of yours, Mark 💜
Crete and food in the med is superfilous.... very generous and humbeling people.
Really the best food in Grece, so open and friendly people, top culture, amazing herbs, strong traditions...we loved Matala (quiet and authentic). Ariane
The best vid from Mark so far because of the wholesomeness of the place and the impressive rustic food cooked the traditional way.
This Antounias place near village of Drakona is a true culinary heaven! And really authentic, local residents eat there almost every night. Highly recommended!
I’m gonna cry… I miss Greece so much, I was in Crete in September. Wish I saw this video about the mountain restaurant before. Oh but my absolute favorite dish is stuffed zucchini flowers, I’m so happy you got to try them! I love Greece
This is happiest I have seen Mark narrate and eat. So jealous right now
Έλα ρε Κρήτη. Αυτή είσαι!
Oh Crete, you are amazing.
We went there a few days ago during our week here. My favorite of our trip. The Goat was the bomb. Every dish was awesome. So friendly. A true food experience. Big THANKS for this video. Made my day!
Oh my. My jaw dropped seeing that lively salad! Yummmmmyyyyy!!!
renae itali I could hear your jaw drop even here in Germany. Lol.
This HAS to be the best video you have ever made Mark 👍 and what a privilege to visit a piece of paradise!! Food cooked over an open flame is one of life's pleasures that should me experienced at least once. Truly remarkable and I can feel your excitement through it all
I was there in the early 70,s as an American soldier. I recall drinking Ozzo , eating goat steak and fresh tomato salad and also spaghetti . Amazing place and friendly people. I also remember visiting the palace of Knozos.
Lydio Banana was there an American base on Crete near gouges?
s125ish yes it was. But now is abandoned
it is called "Gouves". The base is near the sea and it is where the Cretan aquarium is at now.
THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO YOU EVER MADE MARK.LOVE YOU MARK. YOU JUST KEEP ON EXPLORING AND ENJOYING YOUR LIFE AND GIVING THE EXPERIENCE TO US ALONGSIDE. CAN'T EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.KEEP EXPLORING AND SHOW US MORE.
Thank you Raju!
YOU'RE WELCOME MARK. JUST KEEP ROCKING.LOADS OF LOVE FROM INDIA.
WHY ARE WE YELLING?!?!
I’m usually impressed by places you visit but this one just WOW it looks absolutely amazing!
An advice from a local: if you want to try out genuine Greek food and the traditional way of life, visit tavernas that are up in the mountains. They are less touristy and they're keeping it real, in contrast to some touristic places by the sea.
This one of your best videos. Best local food, real local people and great scenery.
What a rare and amazing dining experience to share!
Mary Leialoha I agree!
This guys loves his food. He is amazing chef and farmer. Thanks Mark for another great video.

Well .. Markus .. I have to say that on this occassion you really have unearthed a truly rustic, culinary and cultural jem. Well done!
Hello Mark. Your vids bring people together through a common appreciation for food. Thanks!
Thank you!
I would give my soul to live in a farm like that and have that type of lifestyle, in a country, eating off of the land and just enjoying what God gave us.
It's great to see that there are good people in this world still. God bless Adam and the owner of that Cretan farm.
Mark, you feeding the goats was great. Really nice feed and folks. Thanks.
The chef in this video is the ultimate chefs chef.
Absolutely correct, forget the menu and let the chef serve the dishes from within himself.
Something to really adore and appreciate.
I wish one day I will travel to countries and explore these amazing culture
Me too!
kiara shreeya and come acroos mark wiens and travor james
Definitely yes. Who doesn't get inspired from Mark? We shall do it now itself and have some stories to tell to our children. I have been following Mark since long time. I'm also thinking the same.
Aur Hindustan me yeh demand hai abhi.

This is absolutely my FAVORITE episode
Amazing restaurant, and what a nice owner!
It's a farm
Cretan food is unique in it's own way and so, so delicious. With food like that I would never want to leave the island.
That’s the type of cook who clearly loves what he does!
