I went to Athens Greece in 2017. I cannot forget it! My first European trip. My Godmother was planning to take me to Crete but we never went unfortunately (I think the boat trip was too long and I was only in Greece for 3 weeks). Aside from that, it was such a wonderful experience and I’d love to return. It’s so cool seeing you explore this wonderful country through the world of food! I loved the Cheese Pies, and this sea-side town I would relax at watching the water and the trees. Fun times!
The Greeks learned to make the most of what they could forage or grow during some very hard times. You better believe that they became true magicians with herbs and veggies.
The one nice thing with Greece, and practically all of Europe, they do much better than us here in the United States, is the concept of neighborhood cafés and bakeries. All throughout Athens, every neighborhood has a slew of local eateries and bakeries and coffee shops. Practically on every corner. Something that is foreign to us in the United States. We have strip malls and big malls with food courts. But no local neighborhood places for the most part. It’s nice when you’re in Athens and you could just go out from wherever you are staying and around the corner there is a local restaurant and coffee shops and bakeries where you can sit down outside and just enjoy some food
Worked at a Greek restaurant in my teens. The owner was this kind Greek lady that could drink anyone under the table. The place closed down but that food still haunts my dreams the tazekie sauce that lady could make could never be matched by anything in the store.

The difference is the freshness of the ingredients, the raw food chain it’s not long, so that is why it taste so different to you. You have eaten these items before in great restaurants, but it’s the freshness that’s the difference.
Great video Mike! I think Greek cuisine is really underrated in comparison to other Mediterranean nations - people gravitate toward the more familiar Italian, maybe Spanish. But the Greek use of veggies is exceptional, the meat dishes so flavourful. And anywhere you can get a kebab has to be a winner!!!

The few times I've been in Greek restaurants was good but cannot hold a candle compared to Papa Nick's food . It's amazing !!!
As a Greek I m obliged to ask where did you learned to eat like a Greek? My question derived from the fact that when we eat outside on a taverna or restaurant we tend to order small plates with various different appetisers which you by yourself did here in the biggest possible degree 😂😂😂😂. I sincerely congratulate you for the idea of showing all these plates. Mike although I ate only two hours ago you made me hungry again 😂😂😂😂.
I like greek food the best. What i like most about it, is the high quality , simple ingredients. It always taste best in in Greece! And by the way, when i am swimming in the beautifyl sea, i think i am in heaven.

That Greek 20-dishes made Mikey thump his hand not once, but several times (meaning it's GOOD) - and also ate lots of well-made and very fresh vegetables too 😃 Greece is one of the places I have in my to-go list if I have the chance

Mike as a South African Greek, I have to agree the food is the best in the world. I have never eaten more delicious food and the honey wow,!I am so glad you loved Greece.
As soon as I saw the reverence for spinach pie I knew you were in for a good food trip. Spinach pie is something most households can make relatively easily, it's celebrated across the whole country - filled with extra feta cheese or not - and most Greeks love it when its still hot-warm, right after finished baking in the oven. It's a complete meal, and if you get the taste of it you can easily eat it in industrial quantities
I went to Crete on vacation for a week in 2015 and stayed in a little town near Rethymno, think it may even have been considered a suburb (Adelianos Kampos) and it was just an amazing week! Stayed in a small hotel with all inclusive and even with the food coming from a catering company, it was really good so me and my friends only dined outside the hotel once, and one lunch at a famous souvlaki place on the south part of the island during a day trip that we took, arranged by the hotel. We just didn’t feel the need to dine out during our stay, initially we went with all inclusive to save money (as in not having to budget for food every day) but we were also planning to eat outside of the hotel more, but it just did not happen because hotel food was good, simple but good! I’d love to go back because what I saw of Crete was absolutely stunning, met amazing people, the weather was absolutely lovely, very nice food and I loved the relaxed laid back atmosphere. I’m not much of a beach person as I’m terrified of jellyfish and other sea critters and find underwater currents beyond terrifying, so I prefer pools, but even I swam in the Mediterranean Sea a couple of times and it was really nice even with my uneasiness when it comes to swimming in the sea
Seem this is your best trip yet! Can tell you guys are having fun and it’s been relaxing for you guys! Thank you for sharing ,really enjoy your videos & your family:)
Greece has the best olive oil. It's a foodie's best kept secret ;). I am so impressed that SIRTAKI serves you on site fresh herbs, dairy, etc.. I will have to give that place a visit one day.
My favorite cuisine. The classics are awesome. Spanikopita, pastitsio, moussaka, filo pastries, saganaki, all of it. Gyro, souvlaki. Pita bread with gyro meat, tomatoes, onions, Tsatziki, the best. I see you went for my favorites as well.
Strongly recommend Corfu or Halkidiki next which is in the North and a lot more green. if you can come in mid-June a lot of the trees will smell nice! :)
I love Greek food. I am from Northern Spain, Basque Country, and they are some similarities in food. I love fried zuccini, is one of my favs. It's also very good if you stuff it with cheese or ham and cheese. We also have a lot of fresh seafood and fish here. I am sure Greek people would love our cod dishes. There is a very nice Greek place in Bilbao which I really enjoy. I should go back again haha. Love from Basque Country! Greece is awesome. The people are extremely friendly, the countryside is beautiful. Personally, I think Athens is the worst city I've ever visited in my life however. I love Greece but really hate the capital city of Greece.
@@SaberX2248 If you only stay in the graffiti filled center, Athens looks crappy. You have to visit the north and south suburbs to appreciate the city's beauty. That's the reason Greeks simply don't live in the center.
Pretty much what the guy above said. The center is dilapidated which only tourists might find it "trendy". Try going to Pireaus,Glyfada or Agia Paraskevi-Chalandri in the North. Absolutely no comparison.

It’s nice when you’re in Athens and you could just go out from wherever you are staying and around the corner there is a local restaurant and coffee shops and bakeries where you can sit down outside and just enjoy some food
This is so true
Worked at a Greek restaurant in my teens. The owner was this kind Greek lady that could drink anyone under the table. The place closed down but that food still haunts my dreams the tazekie sauce that lady could make could never be matched by anything in the store.
I'm greek and it's a bless every time I am seeing "foreigns greeks"(once you come to Greece or Hellas , you are forever Greeks😁),visit our holy land and feel happy! Hospitality from ancient years is something sacre for greeks ! The visit to Greece is a game of senses!Foods , views , people! Perfect harmony! Ancient and eternal vibes come along nowadays and make each and every human being feel fullfilment, calmness and joy! Greece is for every person a special adventure! Something like home!!
Beautiful comment Panagioti! And that is true, when someone comes to Greece they do become forever Greeks! 🇬🇷
Mike! Being a Greek (born in Australia) person, I have been waiting SO SO SO SO long for you to visit my country, and experience the amazing food we have to offer! So glad you are enjoying it, and wish you safe travels and a swift return back haha.
P.S. The 'lasagna' is pastichio, and it is 1000x better than lasagna woo!
Ετσιιιι μπραβο
I'm from Cyprus and I love this video. It's so nice to see that you had a wonderful time in the land of my Greek brothers and sisters. Great food and great critique, from someone who obviously knows their stuff and has a great passion for food. Godspeed and I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Greece has the best food in the world no joking.
The difference is the freshness of the ingredients, the raw food chain it’s not long, so that is why it taste so different to you. You have eaten these items before in great restaurants, but it’s the freshness that’s the difference.
Greek food is on another level
Great video Mike! I think Greek cuisine is really underrated in comparison to other Mediterranean nations - people gravitate toward the more familiar Italian, maybe Spanish. But the Greek use of veggies is exceptional, the meat dishes so flavourful. And anywhere you can get a kebab has to be a winner!!!
Fully agree
To be honest Greek cuisine was ranked 2nd in the world in a popular site. After the Italian. But in my opinion it's the best in the world
@@emmabee5027 Greek food is really good but I found out that the Samosa comes from Greek culture. I didn't know that Gyro is used in the Middle East also
@@timothyzakaria7397 yes they have similar food but called differently All the countries around medit. sea are influenced by each other.. ;-)I didn't know that about Samosa, but could be since Greek civilization has influenced Indian civilization around 330-320 BC
Gordon Ramsey claimed that Greek food is better than Italian. Google it.
Mike , your Mom will be so happy to see you eating all those delicious vegetables while you were in Greece ( or rather , the island of Crete ) . I love Greek food and luckily my friend's father is a wonderful cook and invites me often to share a meal with them -everything is always so delicious and fresh .
Mike although I ate only two hours ago you made me hungry again 😂😂😂😂.
also you have to use your hands for some of them. That's the breakthrough
And dipping breads in sauces, this man must be greek
Greek food was one of my biggest surprises. I didn't know how much I would love it until I tried it
This makes me miss Greece!! I could eat greek food everyday, absolutely delicious 😋😍
I like greek food the best. What i like most about it, is the high quality , simple ingredients. It always taste best in in Greece! And by the way, when i am swimming in the beautifyl sea, i think i am in heaven.
You are literally the best. I've always wanted to go to Greece and eat but didn't know where thank you so much I will be using this as a resource you are the best
Greece is beautiful. I think the meal in the baking paper is lamb kleftiko
I love the way the eggplant has collapsed and softened, topped with salty creamy fetta and sun ripened tomatoes. I'll have that and the roasted red capsicum in oil and some dakos with a side of slow bbq octopus and I would be so content.
I am from Greece. Live in Athens. Your video was great! I am very glad you liked greek dishes!!!!!
Oh my favorite country! Enjoy Greece 🇬🇷 Mikey!
That Greek 20-dishes made Mikey thump his hand not once, but several times (meaning it's GOOD) - and also ate lots of well-made and very fresh vegetables too 😃
Greece is one of the places I have in my to-go list if I have the chance
The vegetables, pastries, dairy, pasta and meats make me wanna go there
@@nadinehoogenboezem4798 💯💯🇬🇷🇬🇷👍👍
i have been three times to greece already and i fall in love every single time, the food is incredible and just the atmosphere is so relaxing
Good stuff. Only thing I wish he got to try in Crete was homemade Bougatsa with Mizithra
Im Greek - panamainian and can tell you for sure Greek cousine is outstanding! So fresh and tasty! My mouth melted watching you eating all the food.. So savoury and delicious.. Was there few months ago..
Wow. Amazing how Greece always stays true to its culinary heritage. Loved It. Crete is wonderful. I've been 3 times. Hope you guys went to see the ancient Palace of Knossos in Heraklion. Thanks Mike.
I've been watching your content for years and I think this is the most delicious looking food I've seen in years.
Mike as a South African Greek, I have to agree the food is the best in the world. I have never eaten more delicious food and the honey wow,!I am so glad you loved Greece.
Everything looks so good and fresh, even the vegetable dishes look like something I could eat despite not being fond of veggies.
Greek food is the absolute best , we go on holiday there just to eat the food it’s amazingly good 👌
Just the sheer variety is something else. I think the Mediteranean diet has to offer one of the best in terms of diverse selection. Yum, yum.
I often watch this video with it's DELICIOUS Greek foods. The BEAUTY of this Island... Quite satisfying!
Didn’t realise how much I was salivating throughout the video.. 🤤
YUM!!! 🇬🇷
Greece is a paradise
unique country
Looked absolutely stunning. Really want to visit Greece - gorgeous scenery and delicious food too!
The best meals I have ever had were primarily in Greece. It’s truly a food haven!
I love Greek food! I need to try the real deal though. 💖 Greece looks so airy, clean, and peaceful. Thanks for letting us meet Crete! 💜
I hope I can visit your wonderful land someday.
I am very happy that you came in Greece and enjoy all these amazing food. If you ever want to visit the north part of Greece you are more welcome and dont hesitate to contact ! You are my first choice in youtube . Continue your amazing job !
I've a particular affinity towards Greece for various reasons. Would love to visit this ancient land at least once in my lifetime to witness all the wonders and spiritually connect myself to this place 🇮🇳❤️🇬🇷
Greeks have longevity in every dish
Greeks live the longest lives in the world
Above all they grill Olive oil everything
Goat milk cheeses rather than cow milk
Is the beginning of longevity the list goes on and on ,,,, there coffee ,,,,
they invented the coffee break so much is the greek lifestyle its lovely
Hey Mike, after watching the video I feel I must praise you for being able to wholeheartedly capture the soul of Greek food. And believe me mate, I mean every word I typed!
My husband and I spend a lot of time in Cyprus and we usually order the Meze plates. Each restaurant is different and uses their own recipes.
We use Meze as our litmus test for rating restaurants.
I never been to Greece 🇬🇷 before but vicariously living through you
Glad you enjoying our food mate! Just a small tip, thessaloniki has some AMAZING food, you gotta try Gyros from there i would suggest "Gourouni" in Touba, Thessaloniki and even some Pizza places like "Pizza Salento" has some Italian godlike pizza. I know i know not the most Greek thing but man the food culture in Thessaloniki is on another level.
Agree, Greece is my happy place. 1st time in Crete this October, thanks for the suggestions!
Greetings from Greece we are really happy that you liked our Greek cuisine culture.
I'm so happy you've finally done Greece! Some of my favorite food, and now finding more places to go through your own journeys. Eheheh, easy research for me thank you very much!
I absolutely love Greek/Mediterranean food. The meze sampler was to die for. So many wonderful food options and relatively healthy and light as well
I've never seen you so much vegetables!!! That's how you know how good it was... Looks so yummy
Wow! One of my bucket list places to visit. The food looks so amazing. Mikey, you are really eating your veggies on this trip!! Thank you for letting me enjoy your travels.
Out of all your trips, I think this us the one I'm most envious, always wanted to go to Greece. Thanks for the content🤤👍
The island, the food, everything looked amazing!! Makes me want to go!
The food in Greece is majestic. If you travel to Naxos or Paros, your taste buds will thank you for it.
I’ve always heard good things about Greece but it’s never been on my places to visit. After watching this it definitely is now. Amazing place with amazing food.
What I love the most about this video is that it feels like you're having so much fun, you're going around, loving everything, not like many of your videos where it just feels like you just had time to eat, exercise, eat and eat. The food looks amazing, can't wait to go to Greece myself.
Amazing how your video takes me straight to crete. One of my favorite travels ever. The loukoumades!! Amazing food everyday every island and every village!! Very nice people too
This is the best array of food deliciousness! So fresh and healthy. ❤ this video.
I’ve been waiting for this video!! I was in Greece last month with my Greek partner and his family. This video made me really miss it 😢 Crete was one of our favourite places we went to!
Everything looked so beautiful!! From the waters to the food. Even the hotel! You're lucky man. Stay blessed!
I noticed that out of all the food and travel vloggers in yt, Mikey probably is one of the few that enjoys and praises desserts.
I was waiting for the day you visit Greece! I hope you get to explore more islands and places in Greece.
Wow amazing you travel in Greece I love it the food you eaten its very delicious in there. Thank you Mike for your vlog. God bless❤️🙏
You close your eyes and what comes in your mind hearing the name Crete is that mild blue sky the fresh of the foods and the taste
Your explanation took greek cuisine to another level 🇬🇷
Wow, initially when you said they had a 20 dish platter, I thought it will just be small portions for each dish but wow, each plate is pretty big! The island looks beautiful by the way.
