I don´t think being a Muslim country is a problem perse, its the leaders that governs them. If Turkey would have had democratic reforms that are compatible with EU and European values, then Turkey would have joined the EU 20 years ago. That means that Turkey has to respect all religions and allow them into the country.

As a person from a different non-EU country I would suggest a western Balkan Union to be formed instead of us trying to enter the EU, because it is too hard complicated and many countries within the EU are opposed to us and simply against what we are. BiH, Serbia, North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro and depending on the opinion: Kosovo i Metohija should all make our Union, like a Yugoslavia, but without Croatia and Slovenia, but Albania added in.
