I planted Rambutan seeds on 6/26/2018, don't remember how I planted, & just one plant growing. I'm seeing clusters of flowers formed for the first time. I'm watching them closely!
Exciting! From the wiki note: "Rambutan trees can be male (producing only staminate flowers and, hence, produce no fruit), female (producing flowers that are only functionally female) or hermaphroditic (producing flowers that are female with a small percentage of male flowers)." You'll definitely have to keep an eye on it to see what you've got!
Thanks for sharing these valuable info. With escalating prices on fresh fruit n vegies one needs to watch these videos n gain hands on experience to become green fingered.
Thanks so much really useful. Im here because I planted two seeds ( in moist paper towel ) I really didn’t expect much but they have rooted! I’m so excited I live in s.california btw.
Hi! I'm from the Philippines. They say grafted rambutan trees is preferred over seedlings if you want your tree to fruits because majority of trees grown from seeds become male trees and won't ever bear fruits.
Can you explain grafting & air layering? I have an idea of what grafting is, but I don't have an already fruiting tree then is grafting even possible? I've never heard of air layering
@@serafinmagic1634 if you want to grow a bunch of the seeds, you could actually graft a branch of the female to the root stop of some of the male plants

Today the 4th day of July,2024 is my first time of tasting this fruit with my brothers, and we have enjoyed it so much that I have to make an inquiry about it's benefits and how to grow it here in Ghana
Great video. I have tried to germinate rambutan seeds many times but without success. The seeds tend to develop moulds. Do you have any tips to prevent the seeds from going mouldy? Thanks for sharing.
Sorry your getting mold. Are you germinating in moist paper towel or directly in soil? Make sure all the fruit has been removed from the seed. You might also try cleaning the seed with a weak bleach solution (1 part bleach 10 parts water). Let us know how it goes.
You can try soaking it in water until it sprouts. May have to rinse or change the water a few times. Also cover it like a green house container filled with water. Not entirely sure if itll work for ranbutans but it worked for other seeds like dragon fruit, blueberries and so on.
Hi! I usually don't comment on RUclips videos, but I'd like to share my experience, I'm in Torreón, México, it's a dry semi-desert weather with heat around 80-90 F degrees or 27-35 C. So... I don't know a thing about gardening but I planted some rambutan seeds direct to the pot but I didn't t take precautions of washing the white part and I planted with the pointy end up, so I basically screwed up everything :D BUT there are some tiny leaves growing from the pot (also it was an old pot, with old soil so I'm not sure if there are actually rambutan sprouts .-. ) i've seen some videos and all of them grows without leaves at first. I have another 6 seeds that have been in my desk for about 3 weeks and I'm going to try the paper towel method hoping they are still alive xD I'll keep updating
What if the paper towel gets dry ? Do we have to keep moistening it ? how often do we have to water the plant in soil? Does it need direct sunlight? Please answer my questions
1. If paper towel dries moisten again 2. If your container is not watertight you will have to moisten it periodically 3. How often you water the plant depends on your geographical location and botanical situation 4. I would keep seedlings away from harsh direct sun, but once grown they will need full sunlight 😊
Could you post an update on your rambutan? I have one that's nearly a year old, but it has ZERO leaves and refuses to put on more leaves. The roots are still good and when I scratch the bark, it's still green so it's definitely alive, but barely. It gets watered a lot and fertilized occasionally in full sun so not sure what's wrong here...
Sorry to hear you're having problems. I didn't keep the seedlings so cannot provide any updates, or suggestions. It seems they are difficult plants to grow in the beginning. Here's a couple of links that have some info that might be useful. Hope your plants start growing again! www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/rambutan/rambutan-growing-tips.htm plantinstructions.com/tropical-fruit/how-to-grow-rambutan/
Depends on your container. I suggest check after 1 week for mold, moisture content (add h20 if needed), and growth. See 2:02. Keep us posted on your results
Rambutan trees like high humidity and are not frost tolerant. They can sustain severe damage at temperatures below 39 f. I don't want to sound discouraging, but IMHO it will be extremely challenging growing them in this area of Southern California. apps.worldagroforestry.org/treedb2/speciesprofile.php?Spid=1202
rambutan trees require consistent moisture, especially when young. Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot and other problems. Check the soil moisture by sticking your finger into the soil up to the first knuckle. If the soil feels dry, it’s time to water
I'm not sure, but I don't think it should be a problem. When you transplant the sprouts into starter containers I would suggest that you put them in some kind of Ziploc bag to help maintain a high moisture level. Let us know how it goes
@@LuckyDogTraveler They are fresh, I am keeping the baggies with seeds in wet paper towels in the house (75 degrees) Should I put them outside? Almost a week on the first 3 and no sprouting
@@LuckyDogTraveler I am not sure how to tell if the fruit is ripe... does that matter to the seed? It tastes good, but is difficult to pull the flesh from the seed. I have 6 more in the fridge I haven't opened. Maybe I should not store them in the fridge?
So sorry to hear. Did you wash the seeds to get off all the "sweet white fleshy part" (00:37)? You might have to check the seeds often and change paper towels if you start to see mold growth. Another idea is to clean the seeds with a weak bleach solution of about 10% bleach to 90% water beforehand. I also had good success just planting them directly in soil! If you have more seeds I hope you can try again.

I don't know about that. However, if you are growing them for commercial purposes air layering is the preferred method to ensure the correct ratio of males to females. And to make sure that you get a tree that is a 100% duplicate of the parent plant.

Hi. I have a rambutan, everything was fine, but his leaves started to dry, do you know the reason for that?
Hard to say. Brown leaves can be a sign of too little water, or too much water. They are tropical plants, so like high humidity climates
Much more faster to grow when the pointed side soaked the water..
