One thing I like about this ep is how they, in a fairly serious way, are actually lampooning certain tropes. specifically, Kinsey downplays the threat of Goa'uld by using SG-1's own plot armor against them. I thought that was kind of clever.

This is the first of many clip shows that Stargate SG-1 will do and it's better than 99% of clip show episodes ever made. But its not better than the ones that come later. SG-1 is the only show that manages to do clip shows right. They're entertaining, they're incredibly important to the lore of the show, and they actually move the metaplot forward. This one is good, some of the later ones are downright brilliant.

another thing about them is that they use them in a very strategic way. clip shows and Ship in A Bottle eps* are always about saving money, but with stargate shows they were always specifically used as a way to increase the budgets of another ep (they got a set budget for each ep, but negotiated higher budgets for certain eps by doing ones like these). which means, if you see one, you know something big is coming.
*IE episodes that take place only on existing sets, no new sets and usually no location shots. which, this would technically be both.

as i told you, the first season is a slow burn converting the movie format into the tv show we love, the 2 season starts to take up speed and the 3 season up to 6 is quite fast and fun. season 7 is weird, season 8 seems like a final season, when season 9 and 10 are some sorts of a very soft reboot. you will see just endure the boring episodes that will be quite the few trough the 10 seasons.

Just in case you didn't hate politicians enough.

Stargate never does just clip episodes. There's always a hook, a reason to bother. Some of them are weaker, like this one or one later on in a spin-off, but they always either propel the story further or have fun with the concept, like in Citizen Joe
I still don't like them, they're still clipshows, a huge chunk of the episode is a waste of time, but they're leagues above what other shows did.

5 clip shows over 10 seasons by my count. This one is among the weakest. A late season clip show, "Citizen Joe" is one of my favorite episodes.

So...the Stargate program costs $7 billion. Ukraine can't find $75 billion of the $177 billion the US sent them. Just gonna leave that here.

$7 billion seemed pretty reasonable to me lol

We aren't sending them cash. We spend the cash here to buy new weapons from our own military industrial complex for our own military. We send Ukraine the stuff that's been on the shelves for decades while getting our guys new stuff and infusing those billions into our economy. That's how our aid to Ukraine works. But sure, keep reading those RT articles and listening to right wing media... keep voting for people that promise simple solutions to things you don't understand.

@@WereintheBasement This is pre-inflation mid-90s $7 billion, just in case that makes a difference.
