It's a comical sentiment. Pokemon have emotions that deserve to be treated with respect and kindness, some people are harder to get to, same way as pokemon. That's why nature's exist. Once we understand them better, it'll make an even better friendship
What's worse is that he wasn't truly punished. Sure, he got burned to a crisp, but in anime that's something can be walked off. His Trainer's license wasn't revoked, he didn't serve time. He gets to continue being a crappy trainer, and he'll do this again to any Pokémon he deems as useless.
Chimchar broke me the most. Because it wasn't a one episode thing. It was a whole season where we see Paul being an abusive jerk and then the pain of abandonment and fear of not being good enough comes up several times until Infernape puts Paul back in his place. It's not just tragic, it's peak storytelling in the pokémon anime.
The worst part of it, is that his training works, chimchar was just the exception. He found powerful Pokemon based on their stats, trained them to their limit and dumped Pokemon who were considered weak. Things I can say most Pokemon gamers do.
I know he's I prime example of the term "vengeful ghost " and he was patient as shit to I don't if I could of stuck around that long 3 years is a long time for waiting
I always thought Gengar was kind of creepy. I thought he was a cool Pokemon now don't get me wrong. But after seeing that episode. I saw him in a totally different light 😞 3 years to wait for his trainer to never return. Then when he does. He gets mocked...
Seeing all that made me realise something that never crossed my mind as a kid. A fair chuck of his Pokemon were previously abused and neglected. He then re-homed them and gave them a better life. Hell, his Charizard isn't even his pokemon anymore really and still comes and sees him sometimes. I'm gonna miss his adventures in the anime in all honesty.
The worst one is that one mayor, in the Orange Islands Arc, who as a kid abandoned his Bulbasaur in the sewers for 20 to 30 years. He not only rejected it both in the past and present, but deliberately went out of his way to get rid of it for his "image". The image of it drifting away crying out for it's trainer still comes back to me.
When you realize that there are people out in the Pokémon world who are genuinely worse than some “official” bad guys like Team Rocket. There are times where Jessie is able to look past her own vanity to make sure her Pokémon are happy, while James loves his Pokémon unconditionally and sees them as family (despite half of them repeatedly hurting him with their affection).
Reminder that Jessie and James let themselves get beat up by a Tyranitar, who need I remind you is so strong it's rampages causes people to *redraw maps of the landscape,* to ensure Arbok and Weezing could escape with their packs of Ekans and Koffing.
Villains aren't always bad people, they may be good people who just do bad things. I think the Team Rocket trio are quite interesting, in that sense. It's always fun to learn about the motivations of antagonistic characters and watch them do things that reminds you they're still human..and Meowth.
And tbf again, ‘really loves them’ could be taken as “really” meaning “truly”, rather than “very”. Of course, I imagine the context implies the latter, so you’re still right.
You’d expect the abuse trope to get pretty old, but with every generation the story writers somehow find ways to make it more heartbreaking than the last, thus keeping it fresh.
I like to imagine the only Type of Pokémon who can sniff out that kind of shit instantly are psychic type Pokémon and other Pokémon with similar abilities to Lucario
Sometimes, a pokemon's loyalty is how they act... Like from the island of the giant pokemon episode. Ekins said that pokemon do bad things because trainer does bad things. Pokemon are some of the most loyal kind of beings out there. You can see why so many are used by big bad evil folk. Loyalty is what made charmander into that season 1 jerk until the orange islands
The fact that Pokémon had the guts to show Tepig not only abused BUT LEFT TO STARVE...Man I'd hate to think what would've happened if Ash hadn't shown up. I feel bad when I accidentally step on my cat's tail. I can't imagine actually hurting them on purpose.
There are sick, deranged people in the world... I'm glad Pokemon is bold enough to show that, too many people prefer to turn a blind eye due to them being uncomfortable, when it's a sad fact of life. Let's hope more people will be willing to listen and to change, then perhaps one day the world will be a better place.
I’m surprised this didn’t include Paul at all. Dude was a hardcore perfectionist to the point of releasing Pokémon he didn’t see strong enough to be part of his team.
Tbf he didn’t lie to them, kick them or outright abuse them, he did abuse them but that was mostly because he was blindsided by his brothers fate against Brandon

Plot twist: Professor Mirror isn't clueless, he just feels awkward about telling them some harsh truths. "That must be from a study I haven't read yet" from an academic expert is code for "Probably bullshit, but I don't want to be rude".

@aaa Okay I appreciate you respecting religious people, but your view of it is rather narrow. Yes there are people who are trapped in a religion or are victims, but that's a small minority and not a vast majority. Anyways this is a Pokemon video anyways.
@@zacharyyoungblood7013 Doesn't matter. The idea of religion is poison, and you should never accept something just because somebody else says so. Religion, especially organized religion, teaches people to trust authority figures blindly, and that's always a bad thing. @@OddMoonlight the only excusable one was the Espurr's one, because that trainer was being actively brainwashed by some weird shenanigans team flair was doing
Tepig’s backstory really gets to me. I live in the southern United States. In the area I live in there’s a lot of wild dogs and cats that do fairly well on their own. The weather is temperate year round and the people are nice enough to throw animals scraps. Getting a dog or cat around here just involves feeding a stray until they stick around. Now with that context there’s evil bastards that abandon animals by leaving them tied up. It prevents them from returning home. These animals mind you can live nearly full lives on the kindness of the community. Yet these evil _evil_ people leave the poor things to starve. Dogs are too pure for this sinful earth.
"The opposite of a great truth... is another great truth." While there will be trainers willing to sacrifice everything for their Pokémon, there will also be those that abuse them too.
Another great truth, is that not all of them are punished. Some of them get away with it. Like Gengar's Trainer, he wasn't punished. Charmander and Tepig's Trainers, burned to a crisp, but otherwise they got to remain being trainers. Karma is a b*ch, but she doesn't get everybody.
@@kingcamelot1395 Dont let Karma do the Job. When you see someone doing something like that just slap him or better think about a pretty good revenge and do something like destroying his Reputation. But when i would see that they move to the dog and pull out something i would scare them away and when they actually hurt the Animal i will beat them to a bloody Mess. Or take the Poison and feed it them. Because when Karma doesnt do it because it dont get the Person we need to do it.
@@michaelbarrett8141 How did.. how did that happen? I'm gonna assume that they disguised the poison by putting it in food. That is so cruel of them, my god. We have small dogs, and people regularly pose a threat to their life by being ignorant assholes. They don't realize or care that one hit could be the end for my sweetest fluffs, but buddy if it ever goes that wrong I'm somewhat scared of what _I_ would do.
So you say, but pokemon natures are a thing, and they can be bad (in game) real life I wouldn't care at all. Would be nice If the stupid natures were only six for positive Stats, instead of 25 that work against you (thanks for the RNG GameFreak). Releasing them its better than straight up abandoning them.
Friendly reminder that this "mirrors" our reality. I don't know what my poor baby dog went through before we got him, but we loved him. He was the perfect family member for me. And we loved each other every day of his life. If I felt sad, he'd let me hug him hard until I stopped crying. Animals deserve love and respect. So consider doing something to help. Even if it's just picking up a soda can off the road, or something else an animal might eat/get hurt by. Or donating an old, worn blanket to an animal shelter. Do your part to bring love to animals as you would if you could do so for pokemon ❤ because they're worth it
Yes I agree with you there animals and pets aren't there it be abused there are there to be loved and give love. I'm glad your dog found it's perfect home full of love and hugs ❤️🤗
Our previous cat sadly got his life cut short at early age (only 6), but we could rejoice knowing he went from stray to spending his last years in a caring, loving environment, going from scared all the time to the nicest one around. And we were able to give our current one the love he deserves as well. Be nice to your pets, they'll give you back tenfold.
I'm reminded of a certain recent villain who insisted he was alone and that the world hated him...despite having THREE happiness evolutions on his team. And two that only serve those with noble goals, one of whom can read minds, and another who can essentially read your soul itself.
I feel kinda bad for Volo, whatever happened to him must have fucked him up big time, especially since he's implied to be Celestica. I was discussing the fact Togekiss and Lucario only stay with noble trainers in a server and we came to the theory that maybe since Volo believed so hard in his goals, and that what he was doing was right, that maybe his pokémon started to believe it too...
I always thought it was weird that pokemon can supposedly tell when someone loves them and the anime seemingly contradicting this by having several instances in which a pokemon wants to go back to an abusive owner but then I realized that there's always the unfortunate possibility that these pokemon don't want to believe that their trainer doesn't share the same affection for them that they feel for their trainer. It's kinda depressing.
They can tell when someone really loves them, but abuse victims of all types have this condition. Pokemon walk on eggshells with humans, they like to fight, because of the thrill, and the power they obtain, and the bonds they build, but if they rebel against one, that human ends up dead, and they are grossed out by that thought. But in the end, through hell and high water, the Pokémon survive, whether by adapting, or coming back from death for revenge. But the abuser? They never get off scot-free.
I think the Pokémon are hoping that they can get the love back. Like “ok it must be because I didn’t do the right thing. I wasn’t good enough. I’ll do better and it will all be okay again.”
It's just a weird consequence of the oversanitized way the Franchise treats the behavior of animalistic monsters most of the time clashing with their desire to depict and condemn abusive people. Pokemon are basically rendered into perfect victims who do no wrong and whose only mistake was trusting their abuser in this dichotomy; which, well, it is a kids show so unpacking those themes more ain't exactly likely to happen. Edit for clarification: Pokemon can usually not realize their abusive situations and act against their abusers, and that just kinda creates a really weird vibe sometimes. It is a bit shallow, but it does end up being a pretty good demonstration of the principle that abused pets (or indeed, people, for quite a few of the abused Pokemon qualify as those) are not at fault for their abuse, and Ekans and Koffing of Team Rocket kinda combine that with the fact that misbehavior on part of at least abused pets can always be firmly traced back to the abuser. Which, just combined with the fact that all of this needs to be made obvious to children, makes Pokemon really weirdly shallow creatures.
I mean.. people look past abusive relationships all the time because they’re too deluded to realize their partner is a terrible person. If anything this is realistic
I actually agree with Pokémon being able to tell when someone really loves them. It’s just like a real dog or cat, they can definitely tell when they’re loved. However when they are not loved, this doesn’t change whether or not they would naturally be loyal to their owner. The same thing is true of Pokémon and their trainers. Yes Pokémon are drawn to people who really love them, but lack of love does not dictate they become disloyal. It’s sad, but it’s really not that different from how real animals work.
(I only read the first half) yes my point exactly! Gamefreak doesn't see that when they took away the national pokedex. My starter is like a pet to me (well a digital pet)
@DefaultyNox Areo I only read the first part of that comment. From what I can tell, dogs and cats and any type of animal aren't stupid niether. But they do feel love and don't wanna let go of that love. They are more capable of feeling than humans do
fun fact : in the gen 4 games cyrus who growing up learned to never show emotion and throughout the games never once even has any emotion/love has a crobat, a pokemon that only evolves from having max freindship so either A : its a adopted pokemon or B : he set up a front and pretended to love his golbat tricking it into evolving
Tepig's previous trainer got a new Tepig, which evolved into emboar, and "regretted" getting rid of his old Tepig after seeing him defeat both emboar and heatmor. Though the Gengar Ash caught certainly takes the gold for tragic backstory, given he waited 3 years for his trainer to return when he had no intention of ever doing that.
Oh yeah! The Gengar from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, at least he got a change of heart at the end and helped to lift the curse, even tho she wouldn't remember him anymore
I wonder if it’s okay since the dex or from a source I read stated that it always having a hard time to controlling it’s psychic power, which mean with that kick he could have nuked everything nearby if not himself.
A lot of Pokémon are like dogs. They offer unconditional love and don’t understand abuse and neglect when that’s the response to their love and loyalty. I think they are in tune with emotions, but they also are idealistic with their trainers because usually there was love at one point in the relationship
i feel like tepig proves wrong, that trainer straight up abused and abandoned him and tepig knew that and practically begged for him to come back. unlike a dog where they dont know when they're being abused. that gengar one really felt me tho
The one with Gengar broke me, man. It would be so cool to have a Gengar friend! I love pranking people in a more harmless way, so having a buddy to prank with would be so cool!
Well, being able to tell that someone really loves them doesn't necessarily mean they can tell the opposite. There's also the aspect that they may want to love a person in spite of not getting love back.
It's really hard to love someone knowing they don't love you back but that's why it hurts so much. These pokemon were abandoned and abused by people they trusted and loved. Like people, maybe they just thought love is supposed to hurt. This is why Chimchar cries when he was given the slightest bit of affection. He never knew reciprocity
Gengar makes me realize just how fucking dangerous being a Pokémon trainer would actually be. It's like training polar bears to understand and obey you, times one hundred. Even with the starters, they could do some damage to the ten year olds they're given to.
@@Jenna_Talia Pokémon Sun and Moon in particular have some interesting dex entries about how dangerous Gengar is. Also Mega evolution makes it worse, here's Ultra Sun on Mega Gengar: "It tries to take the lives of anyone and everyone. It will even try to curse the Trainer who is its master!"

Don't forget Chimchar! ...Why do the Fire-Types get so much abuse, my God?! I mean, it's awful when Pokémon get abused in general, but so many Fire-Types are victimized in the anime... 😭😭😭
I hope Game Freak make a feature in Pokémon Home on both Phone and Switch versions where you can like feed sandwiches and other food , play, and just generally watch your pokemon stored walk around in like a play zone and be happy knowing your there taking care of them. Also, this can be another way to implement more points onto players' homes account, which they can use to get stuff onto their games.
The poor Gengar. They always wonder what sinister thoughts he thinks, but he just wants love. F in the chat for the Gengar and the other neglected Pokémon. ❤😔😔❤ (Edit: GOD this blew up quick!)
Gengars aren't bad at all, in the the season 1 episode where it first appears in, we learn that it just enjoys a mild amount of tomfoolery, a miniscule amount of trolling one might add.
The only times I can remember is that Tepig one because I loved Black and White as a kid and remembered that part, and I think in the Kanto region Ash found a neglected Charmander who still tried to do as his owner said, which was stay behind on a rock. The Charmander almost died, and the owner was making fun of it with his friends while talking about all the other, ‘cooler’ Pokemon he got.

I think he was almost certainly dead, given the clothes he was wearing in the pictures. Very old fashioned. She probably didn’t want to acknowledge that her trainer was dead. “If I just pretend it’s all fine it will be.”
@@dr.altoclef9255 Unless she has no idea how old humans can feasibly live to be. Her species is extraordinarily long lived and she may think humans live just as long. After all, the servants of the house left after a few years, so she wouldn't have been around them long enough to see them age.
I think what this implies is that Pokemon can tell when someone loves them, but they cannot tell if someone doesn't love them, or worse, can't tell that they hate them.
These are all extremely intelligent creatures. There is a definitive line between human and pokemon intelligence, but they understand commands, they understand feelings and some abstract concepts, and they interact like normal humans would. Even the machine or inanimate Pokemon show feelings. Even beings like Ghost and Dark types that are known to trick and harm others can be like any other Pokemon.
@@derpkipper Yeah half the time watching bipedal Pokémon in the anime I get uncanny valley feelings cause it's an animal that acts sort of human, but is treated like an animal and sort of looks like one. With the games it's a lot more straightforward.
Perhaps the most extreme example is the boy that pulled one of Ninetales' tails (PMD series). His Gardevoir takes the curse meant for him and the Ninetales asks him if he wants to save her. He responds by running away. Fast forward to the Rescue Team games, the Gardevoir has become a ghost and the boy has been turned into the Gengar that leads Team Meanies. His team commits vandalism, attempts to extort a Caterpie child and are generally unpleasant. Gengar in particular gaslights the player character, another human turned Pokemon, into believing they were the human that ditched Gardevoir, encourages the town to hunt them down and torments them with Dream Eater as one last act of spite after his previous one didn't work out. How does Gardevoir describe her trainer after that? An old friend. Granted, Gengar does eventually try to save Gardevoir in the postgame, but it really doesn't look like he always was like this.
In the official manga, Gengar tried to awaken Groudon to destroy the world as revenge for his transformation. Again, he did see the error of his ways and helped undo his actions, but still!
@@knightofarkronia9968 Holy crap, I didn't know that seems to me that trainer in addition to being a massive coward and blame shifter is probably just a sociopath.
He doesn't torment the player with Dream Eater, but just uses it to see inside their dreams. I think it was implied he was rather regretful of how he abandoned her, as even he considers Gardevoir an irreplaceable friend. Gengar was a jerk, but he did also come around and grew as a person/Pokemon.
@@ShadowPKMNcz nah , Team Plasma is evil. In manga. And all of this in Pojemon Manga, that is more serious than anime and games
it's interesting to think about this kind of stuff. like how so many evil teams in the games have crobats (friendship-based evolution) to subtly show that they might be evil, but they aren't cruel. but then compare that to ghetsis, part of the team focused on the treatment (or lack thereof) of pokemon, who has an underleveled hydreigon, implying the evolution was forced/rushed.
The lack of good treatment for Ghetis is even more implied when in B2W2 is Hydreigon posses a max powered Frustration which is an whose depend on how muc you're pokemon dislike you
I think it's kind of important to remember that pokeballs do seem to have an effect on who a pokemon is attached to - using game logic, just walking around with a pokemon in your party raises its friendship level with you, even if you aren't battling with it. And they are compelled to listen to you when you catch them. The only significant exceptions (that I know of) are Ashs Pikachu (who didn't like his pokeball to begin with and who wasn't directly caught by ash, he only started listening once ash earned his trust) and his charmeleon/charizard (who he got from an abusive trainer that left the poor young charmander to die, again, ash not being his technical original trainer) Meanwhile, all the pokemon in new pokemon snap are wild and hang around the research lab by choice, they aren't and probably never have been under the effects of a pokeball. These examples of abused and neglected pokemon are likely more attached to their original trainer than their treatment would make you think because of that bond the pokeball establishes, and it seems like it takes a better, non abusive trainer stepping in and showing them kindness to get them to realize that their original trainer isn't good for them
Yeah, Pokémon can defy their masters, but they hate doing it. Mostly because when they defy a cruel master, it always ends one way, with the master dead, and the Pokémon alone.
I think with Charmeleon/Charizard it was an issue bc Char was now officially over leveled for Ash, like the game logic of only being able to have Pokémon listen to you if they’re under a certain level, and if they pass that they won’t listen to you anymore until you’re above it again. And it’s not like it’s an implausible idea, because we saw that with Excadrill in BW anime, as to why it wouldn’t listen to Iris. Realistically, the whole eggecutor thing was probably a *lot* of EXP for Charmander to suddenly take on, so it probably leveled him quite a bit. And I’d imagine Charmander was already close to evolution level, so that’s probably why it both evolved him and pushed him past Ash’s threshold. So I’d guess ultimately, it’s probably a mix of your explanation of Charmander’s trauma, and the over-leveling that suddenly happened.

@@christianwright7581 LOL, true. If I remember correctly, GF increased the Lapras rate later on because of this guy. I also remember that a lot of breeders on the PSS would wonder trade their rejects into the world. It was a great source of decent level 1 Pokémon, including starters.
there's nothing whatsoever wrong with releasing Pokémon back into the wild. what's truly cruel is throwing them into a PC box and abandoning them there forever, never to see the light of day (or reality) again. that's why I release every single mon I'm not actively using and don't keep any stored. even when I'm filling my pokédex, I just catch and release.

Shamus (the Tepig guy) is worse than Paul by a million miles. Even before Paul got an attitude adjustment and started treating all his Pokémon respectfully, we knew that his brutal treatment of Chimchar was a special case that he didn't inflict on his other Pokémon. And he always clearly treated his starter Torterra with respect. Meanwhile, Shamus was not only an emotionally abusive cockwaffle to his abandoned Tepig, but he also treated his Heatmor and possible starter Emboar with total contempt, seeing them as mere extensions of himself and even ordering Heatmor to attack Emboar to break an Attract. And unlike Paul, he never changes. That guy is _still_ running around in Unova, treating his Pokémon as if they were the gum on his shoes. If you think Paul's somehow worse than that then you honestly couldn't be more wrong. Shamus holds a claim for being the most loathsomely abusive trainer in the entire anime.
@@gengarzilla1685I never saw either but I knew Paul was better. He may have been too rough and uncaring, but his harshness came from wanting the strongest team. I like to use different Pokemon in every game, yeah I could just use my old favorites, but I don't. It's similar reason I hate Arena quests in Monster Hunter. It doesn't actually make me experiment with new weapons, I end up defaulting to whatever weapon is closest to the Lance, if the Lance is not available, but on regular hunts I'll mix up my build for fun if I'm just doing solo hunts.
Nuzlockes really are the most sociopathic way to play Pokémon when you think too deep about it. Yeah, you drop the Pokémon when it "dies" and that's totally fine, but imagine how it looks in canon when you're seemingly abandoning your Pokémon after one faint.

FR

They're just so pure that they love you unconditionally. Even when you don't deserve it. Except in the games. This monsters will fuck you up
Trainers really be out there trying to make new shadow Pokémon...
Its kinda interesting because the anime makes out pokemon to be extremely sapient, meanwhile in the game canon they are much more animalistic
@@derpkipper Yeah half the time watching bipedal Pokémon in the anime I get uncanny valley feelings cause it's an animal that acts sort of human, but is treated like an animal and sort of looks like one.
With the games it's a lot more straightforward.
I never fully realized how terrible Tepig was treated. Not only was it hit and thrown around but it was abandoned while tied up and left to starve.
Even the professor is confused what she say
Mirror watched the anime confirmed lol

I swear every Pokémon that’s been abused in the anime ends up becoming one of my favorites overall.
Here to remind of that art piece of someone insulting/yelling at their freshly evolved Sylveon cause they wanted an Umbreon.
It seems that Pokémon can tell when someone loves them, however cannot tell when someone does not love them
it's interesting to think about this kind of stuff. like how so many evil teams in the games have crobats (friendship-based evolution) to subtly show that they might be evil, but they aren't cruel. but then compare that to ghetsis, part of the team focused on the treatment (or lack thereof) of pokemon, who has an underleveled hydreigon, implying the evolution was forced/rushed.
The lack of good treatment for Ghetis is even more implied when in B2W2 is Hydreigon posses a max powered Frustration which is an whose depend on how muc you're pokemon dislike you
@TurboGamer Not to mention James loves his pokemon, despite almost at least one hurting him per gen (Victrebell, Mearine, Cacnea, etc.)
They’re pretty much the equivalent of pita, I’m pretty sure that’s what the company was trying to get
Cyrus, a man who despises emotions, has a Crobat. Maybe there was a kindness inside him he was never aware of?
"Underleveled Hydreigon"
Lance's 3 underdeveloped Dragonites:
It's the same for Cats🐱and Dogs🐶 because they can tell if someone is an animal lover which is the same for Pokemon.
I think it's kind of important to remember that pokeballs do seem to have an effect on who a pokemon is attached to - using game logic, just walking around with a pokemon in your party raises its friendship level with you, even if you aren't battling with it. And they are compelled to listen to you when you catch them. The only significant exceptions (that I know of) are Ashs Pikachu (who didn't like his pokeball to begin with and who wasn't directly caught by ash, he only started listening once ash earned his trust) and his charmeleon/charizard (who he got from an abusive trainer that left the poor young charmander to die, again, ash not being his technical original trainer)
Meanwhile, all the pokemon in new pokemon snap are wild and hang around the research lab by choice, they aren't and probably never have been under the effects of a pokeball.
"that must be from a study i haven't read yet" sounds like the sickest burn
Competitive breeders “releasing” hundreds of Pokémon into the wild be like… 😅
Well there was that one guy who said that as a kid, he would breed and release Lapras since one of its Pokedex descriptions at the time mentioned how it was an endangered species or something along those lines.
@@christianwright7581 well that's the wholesome approach, not just ditching mon because they aren't perfect.
Ah, that takes me back. I can't tell you how many Tyrunt I threw to the wilds of Alola because of their imperfect IVs and/or Natures. That ecosystem is probably DEVASTATED. Good news though, Tyrunt's no longer an extinct pokemon.
I literally cried watching those scenes when I was younger, I really love Pokemon and animals too so it is super sad for me to watch those. 😭😭
dude the gengar getting anger built up is the most relatable thing waiting so long for something and then it never happens

Pokémon can not only tell when someone really loves them, but also when someone doesn't.
That Tepig scene traumatized me for life. It was just too sad
I haven't watch the anime but damn this shit really happens? Tepig crying that that almost made me cry
Yes is happening with many pokemon like charizard ash and others pokemon etc etc etc
Wait until you hear about what Paul did to his Chimchar.
Which means releasing the weak and training to their limits.
Although his strategy was dumb anyway, kind of like Yang in the early RWBY season.
I mean, his plan was to make his Pokemon get critically hurt so its special ability kicks in before fighting.
But what if he missed? What if the opponent doesn't go down in one hit? You're screwed if you rely on it
@@gengarzilla1685 you forgot the part where he abandoned the tepig by attaching him on a pole preventing him to even drink and eat. That, and I hate having options locked away. I like to use different Pokemon in every game, yeah I could just use my old favorites, but I don't. „That must be from a study I haven’t read yet“ hits waaaay harder in this clip than it did playing the game
I think it's a bit like domestication.
Since humanity has expanded and is using Pokémon very frequently, I imagine even wild pokémon have become somewhere comfortable around people, and it is now just easy to gain their trust.
Which is how situations like Charmander, Tepig, and Gengar happen... I imagine anyways.
It makes sense, two starters, who are naturally friendly with humanity, and Gengaf, who is desperate for a companion, and was once human itself.
