  • A personal support worker (PSW) contributes to the quality of life of residents living in long-term care. They assist residents with physical needs including dining, personal care (bathing, dressing, etc.), as well as mobility (ambulation, positioning, transferring). PSWs are also a source of emotional support and friendship for those they provide care to. They have the opportunity to get to know the residents they care for, and are responsible for reporting any behavioural or clinical changes they notice. PSWs help residents to live well and with comfort, safety, and dignity.

Experienced PSW's should be paid more than registered nurses, it is PSW's who really make the difference in daily care and they actually do the difference for most

I am happy about being a PSW. It is a great career choice. I am now back to school to do my nursing degree. I will continue with promoting PSW. Hoping I get to teach PSW when I become a registered nurse.

I am actually a Developmental Service Worker (DSW) working as a PSW. They are extremely similar roles and there is a lot of reward in both. Although I prefer developmental services I am learning about a whole different chapter of vulnerable souls. It has extreme challenges but it is worth it!

Wow! Can yoh tell me what you love so much. How are your days. I want to becone a PSW myself because I enjoy helping. But readung comments from people i see that PSW are regarded as housekeepers (whicb I am by thebway) and I think they are SOOOO mucb more than that.

Long-term care refers to a range of services meant to address a person's health or personal care needs for an extended length of time. When people can no longer undertake daily tasks on their own, these services help them live as freely and safely as possible. We like this arrangement before Dad moves to silvergaterr.

A personal support worker (PSW) improves the quality of life for long-term care residents. They help residents with physical requirements such as eating, personal care (bathing, clothing, and so on), and mobility (ambulation, positioning, and transferring). We've had this happen to Dad, and he's currently in the care of silvergaterr.

This looks like a very rewarding career but I wonder if there are initial barrier to men being in this role, Any thoughts on how men can add to this profession would be greatly appreciated.
