This is the END for the Cleveland Cavaliers...

  • The Boston Celtics just eliminated the Cleveland Cavaliers from the NBA Playoffs in five games to send them into a wildly interesting offseason. Donovan Mitchell's future with the team is in question with teams like the Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers, and more hoping that he doesn't extend with the Cavs. Meanwhile, Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen are also seemingly on the block with teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder, Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans, and more interested in the services of one or the other. Evan Mobley is seemingly the only core team member that isn't possibly on the move and even he has some question marks as well. Even if the Cavs don't lose Donovan Mitchell, it feels like massive changes are coming for the franchise and we're witnessing the end of the Cleveland Cavaliers as we know them. Let's talk about it.

      @@kingsofthenerds3695 I don't watch ESPN, I watch the NBA. The Cavs went on their highest winstreak this season when mobley and garland were hurt and the offense ran through mitchell with allen as the sole big. But even past on court results, there is a way to think about this logically. You are trying to make two 6'1 guards work as your main shot creators with two fairly unskilled bigs that provide 0 spacing. Both ideas of unlocking a high powered offense and defense are inherently limited by size/skill limitations of other people on the roster. With this approach, the cavs are giving up offensive skill from any frontcourt position and giving up a glaring hole in the perimeter defense, limiting the ceiling on both ends of the court. These inherent roster limitations just cannot allow a team to be successful in 2024, regardless of how skilled the four may be.

    I don't see why Garland is getting all this hate. Of course he's been worse than the last two years, but that was because he wasn't healthy for the majority of the season. Losing like 15 pounds can do a lot to throw someone out of whack. I think you have to try and roll with Darius and Donovan one more time when both ARE 100% after the offseason. Before his broken jaw, Garland had about the same stats as last season, so I know he hasn't regressed. Obviously the team has improved from last year since we made the second round this time, and people forget that the cavs core is crazy young. Mitchell is 27 (most likely just the beginning of his prime), Allen is only 26, Garland is only 24, and Mobley is only 22, and I believe they will all play better under a new coach with a different gameplan.

    Garland for Brandon Ingram would really be a great trade for both teams. A Front court of Allen, Mobley and Ingram would give teams fits especially on defense. Even if you were to lose Mitchell it's more likely to land a decent guard then a SF of B.I. talent. Then Garland would be a great fit for Zion. Especially a point forward Zion. They Must Allen for right now.

    It feels like Bickerstaff is going to be fired, and it's a shame. I'm not sure anyone could have done a better job with the team than he did this season. He had a new starting lineup practically every night due to injury. The fact that the team often looked better when 1-2 of their four best players was out speaks to issues with the lineup construction, not coaching. Having two small guards and two non-shooting big men just doesn't make sense in the current NBA.

  • @vism2812
    @vism2812 15 дней назад +2

    cavs dont gotta break up the core. priority one should be retaining donovan and running these guys back. the guards/bigs not being a fit is way overblown. spida has seen his best years playing with garland, and allen dominated the magic next to mobley. mobleys play after he went down wasnt just more space being available; he wasnt doing this in his lone big minutes all season, or last year against the the knicks. he genuinely might have just figured out how effective a scorer he is, and will come in next year replicating that next to allen. garland had his most efficient year when spida came, was 3rd in the league in +/- back in 2023. that kind of impact just doesnt happen in a situation you dont fit in, and it doesnt just go away. the injuries affected his mind just as much as his body, he can reset both this offseason and flourish next to donovan. contrary to popular beliefs and the newest reports, dg has the same green light spida does. came into preseason this year with higher 3pt volume clearly on his mind, increased his strength to finish better in the paint. before the jaw injury, we saw this newfound aggression manifest as career high %’s in the paint and higher 3point attempts. coming out the all star break was his peak as a shooter, 10 3s per game, 49%!!! now he wont do that for a whole season, but 40% is doable for a guy with his track record, even with that many shots. let it be known rn. cavaliers are keeping their four main guys, adding better positional size around them, maybe a new coach, and making another leap into contender status next season. darius and evan bounce back years, injuries the only reason their stats didnt pop this year

    I low key think Donovan Mitchell is limiting Garland and Co. He doesn’t distribute as well as Garland and Garland and him have not meshed at all. I think Garland, Allen, and Mobley would all see a bump without Mitchell. I’d love to see Mitchell traded for two or more top tier role players that complete the roster like a Jrue Holiday or OG Anunoby or even brining back Markkanen

    • @Enlightened_SpursFan
      @Enlightened_SpursFan 15 дней назад

      Well we did prioritize developing Mitchell's playmaking a little bit more, he was much improved in that part of his game this year, but yea neither of them are realy "off-ball" guards and I think they should send Garland to San Antonio for maybe Keldon Johnson, one of our 2024 picks and another future first, and probably another bench piece. I did like the look of this Cavs team when Garland was the one doing it all, and now that we see Mobley can do a lot more offensively, he could really take off next year. We will have to see what the front office decides to do but I think the Cavs will come out as winners either way, we just have so many pieces we COULD move and a lot of good options for other teams to consider in a trade.

      I was about to comment the exact same thing and then I read yours, I think a DG trade for the spurs would be a good middle ground between putting more of the chips on the table for someone like Trae, and taking a chance on someone like Topic or Dillingham. They could get DG and try to go for more wing depth out of the draft, or maybe a defensive guard like Castle. If they go in to next season with DG and some combination of Risacher, Castle, Holland, Buzelis, or Knecht I think they’re feeling good about their future.

      @@lordcupkake okay you can think I “don’t know ball” but clearly Mobley is better at the 5 Mobley is 22 and he doesn’t have a consistent enough 3 ball to justify continuing the two big lineups and having 2 non shooters on the floor so whichever you’d rather get rid of that’s your choice but I am choosing to get rid of Allen over Mobley he’s 4 or 5 years younger. I think we should trade Allen to the pelicans who have been wanting him for Trey Murphy herb jones some picks etc I don’t think we could get both herb and Trey but Trey is a true 3-d guy he is only 23 shot 38% and 40% from 3 the last two years as a volume 3 point shooter he’s taking 7.8 shots per game getting 5 boards a game and he’s 6’8 that gives us some size to replace Allen’s 6’9 and he can shoot like Trey Murphy would be A GREAT STARTING POINT AT A RETURN FOR ALLEN. If the rumors are true about Garland requesting a trade upon Mitchell signing an extension are true, Then I really hope the spurs go and get him. Spurs could draft a PG this year, but even then we can still get Garland, and now that rookie Gaurd will have 2 great mentors to help him with his game. Especially if we draft Dillingham because his playmaking is what needs to grow the most. But I think the Cavs could also be fine running it back, the Garland rumour might be some media BS. maybe trade Allen, it seems that there was some frustration with him not doing everything he could to get out there and play in the Celtics series, and he could get us a lot of assets in a return, as well as unlocking Mobley at the 5. We would need more wing depth tho. The Cavs are poised for a big off-season, but that doesnt mean keeping everyone is the wrong move. This team can go all the way in my belief

    Two things. First, if DM extends, then Mobley will be next, followed by Garland being traded & possibly Jarrett Allen. Get a stretch 3 who is an off ball player w/ solid D. A guy like Mikal Bridges. JA isn't an imperative move right now b/c his contract is so cheap, & the possibility that Mobley comes back canning his 3s. If he does, great, if not, then move JA for a stretch 5. Someone like Myles Turner. I don't think we want Evan Mobley at the 5 w/ a stretch 4 b/c that is a waste of his Defensive talents. He shut Banchero down in games 1, 2 & 4 in that Orlando series, and was an otherwise defensive NIGHTMARE for the Magic, but once JA was injured & Mobley was forced to play center, Banchero went batshit in games 5, 6 & 7. We want Mobley available to guard the opponents' top Forwards every night, not lumbering Centers. Second, once this roster is balanced out, I say you keep Bickerstaff. He's been a good, not great HC, BUT, he has this bad roster to work w/, DG & DM and JA and Mobley being redundant players. JB is still fairly young himself, and learning. Give him a chance w a better contracted roster, & if he can't step if up, THEN look for a new HC. Go Cavs!

      There seems to be only updates on the Thunder if they win. I think it is important to support your team no matter what. They weren't even that bad, but it turns out if you have trouble winning games against the Dallas Mavericks with a very mediocre Luka Doncic, if Luka is starting to ball like he normally does they have very little chance.
      Let's hope game 6 will be an amazing game from both teams, I enjoyed game 4 as well, despite Dallas playing badly in the 4th quarter, which is very much unlike them. I'm still waiting for that insane Kyrie scoring game, we've seen every other star and PJ Washington have great games so far.

    I would resign everybody except garland and okorro to make a space for lbj. Hes literally waht the teams missing. An athletic SM who can create their own basket and D up when needed. If you cant get bj. Get pg. Need a small forward that can score 25 pts a game. A 1-2 punch. They dont have that. Its what their missing. Garland just isnt consistant enough imo. But imo the roster is fine as is. Except for the SM position. You get them healthy and entise lebron to come back. Its an instant contender with picks left and assets left to improve the team. Plus its the east. It would def make them an instant contender

    Please never say Bickerstaff did any sort of good job at all. The guy is a bad coach. You even mention one of his bad points in passing when talking about Mitchell & Garland not fitting well and fail to realize that it's because of the coach.
    Bickerstaff doesn't run an offense, it's ISO ball. It's quite frankly always been that way even before Mitchell got there. The year before, the Cavs were entirely reliant on Garland to create offense.
    There's also the complete lack of team awareness. The supposed starting 5 for the team was barely above average when they played together this year. It has been painfully obvious to anybody who pays attention that the team is better when Okoro starts, because his defense is far more important than having a 5th offensive option with Strus.
