"Hey guys what time signature should we use for this song?"
"Yes."
That's what you get for asking a Prolog compiler that question.
Is this really a pinkly smooth profile picture. Haven't seen it in a long time
@@arvindhmani06 uhhjjqjh
all of them
When you can't decide on which time signature to use so you just use all of them.
Gavin Blackshear if I'm not mistaken, it changes 108 times. that's fucking crazy
yep 108 time signature changes which is a world record
...you think the meter changes are actually their social security numbers?
I wonder how much time, energy and rage quits went into to producing this.
Imagine forcing 4/4 on this whole song 😂😂
"What time signature should we use for this song?"
"I don't know... all of them?"
MathiasDSmith
Petrucci: "Mike...you might want to think about this..."
Mike:"Nah man, we can pull this off."
Myung:"...."
LaBrie: "You guys are nuts"
Aexilius I guarentee if that would have been how it went down, Myung would have been the one that was totally excited and ready to go
FINAL BOSS REACHED
My man. 🤜💥🤛
Dream Theater: "How to make a time signature:
1)Put a cat on a keyboard
2)Drop a bucket of water on this cat (and this keyboard)
3)Play tennis with the keyboard
4)Drink a lot of alcohol
5)Remove all the buttons from the keyboard and replace them randomly
6)Type the number pi
7)Sleep with the keyboard instead of a pillow
8)Smash the computer with a hammer
9)Drop the computer from the top of a mountain
Congratulations, you have your Perfectly-Random-Dream-Theater-Song-Time-Signature #94, enjoy!"
END OF THE ROAD.
NO 4/4 ALLOWED BEYOND THIS POINT.
ANYONE CAUGHT IN 4/4 WILL BE FORCED TO PLAY THE ENTIRE DREAM THEATER DISCOGRAPHY IN ONE SITTING.
one time, I tried to drum this. then I got angry and had to lay on the floor and count to ten.
Next time, try to count to 15/8
so just 15 ;)
i can't do it fuk!!!!
First count to 4. Then to 3. Then to 4, then 7, then count to 13 but do it really fast, then count to 5 but with a little wierd triplet thing on every count, and then count to...
just do the 13 as a single measurw of 12/8 polyrythem then an extra note so basically 3 groups of 3 then 2 of 2
I'm surprised the engineer making the tempo map for this song didn't kill himself, holy hell
To be honest it's sounds like quite the fun challenge
They hire engineers to create the tempo? I thought they made it themselves.
When you go to actually record the song onto a software program you have to set the tempo/ time signature the band is playing in. So every few bars the engineer would have to be changing the time signatures and tempo for this song.
That’s why they sound so cold and metallic

the spiderman gif don't dance to this song
what
Gabriel Barzborsz In case you don't know already, there is this a dancing spiderman gif that can dance to any song... except this one it seems
kek
we have finally defeated Spiderman
Mr. Stark, I don't feel so good.
more work goes into one DT song than most bands put into one album. I'm not a fan of their overall sound but you HAVE to respect these guys.
I have the same view about this band as you.
I LOVE Dream Theater and I still like your comments because they are learned and respectful.
killercrabman tbh the only people who put in as much work into their songs as Dream Theater does are actual orchestral composers, but DT might actually put in more work because they have to play what they compose as well, and that's not easy.
+killercrabman I'm not a fan either but I admire them a lot.
Did you say anything about Slayer?! /s
2:30 that rag-time
Great rag-time in "The Dark Eternal Night" from Systematic Chaos too
when someone says bass players are slow and cant play as fast as guitarists bit then you reach the halfway mark of this song and its actually the fastest instrumental in the entire song
It’s been confirmed by Pretucci that Myung has little aliens on his fingers.
But*
Cat Mlem that's when you sweep pick on a bass
That’s John myung for you
16th note sextuplets (32nd triplets). With a bpm of about 120, that's approximately 24 notes per second. Yeah
I have literally never heard Dream Theater before now but I heard this song changes time signature 106 times so of course I had to give it a listen.

When your Music teacher tells you to buy a metronome, but you keep playing without it, it could happen...
I've known about Dream Theater for a while now and I never really gave them a listen. But holy crap I've obviously been missing out.
That snare sound is perfect.
Obviously its Mike portnoy on percussions.
Mike Portony dr, ur 20.04.1967 r. świętuje dzisiaj swoje urodziny,
100 lat i wszystkiego najlepszego drogi jubilacie !.
you got a point
Wulbulbul Lubbubwublub
...thx 😊
Let's play a game! Take a shot everytime you see a joke about "time signature"...
Thanks a lot. I had to be hospitalized.
Everyone talking about the 106 time signature changes but no one talks about James LaBrie's performance... And MY GOD HE KILLED IT!
If music was a video game, either this or Through The Fire And Flames would be the final boss.
Operation Ground and Pound was harder than TTFAF
“Daaaamn son! How many time changes you gon’ make?!”
“ALL OF THEM!”
Imagine this just being a jamming session
We don't deserve this masterpiece for free
It's year 2022.
And I miss playing this on my drums in highschool (15 years ago)
The metronome was reportedly high on street drugs at the time.
This is what I thought the fifth dimension would sound like.
No shit! I feel the same way trying to play bass to it. I eventually leave this plane of existence....ahhhhh....then it hurts like mortal hell after.
Time signature
Stacy Schauls yes
How The fuck Should I Head bang to this???!!!!!!!!?????!?!?!?!?
amateur...
zombie kids
It keeps a pretty consistent pulse for the entire song almost.
headbang like a seizure patient
Yes, they're good but can they play "Come as you are" by Nirvana?
absintobias Probably in their sleep
2:47 + 2x speed = Death
WELL, THERE'S YOUR MATH LESSON TODAY KIDS!! NEVER LISTEN TO DANCE OF ETERNITY AT SPEED TWO OR YOU WILL HAVE STROKE
:(
it's not that fast
Love is an act of faith... 8
charting this song would be impossible
This song is clearly inspired by Frank Zappa.
And that's a great thing!
Olga Nesterowicz why do you say that?
As the man once said himself: "At this very moment, on stage, we have drummer A playing in 7/8, drummer B playing in 3/4, the bass playing in 3/4, the organ playing in 5/8, the tambourine playing in 3/4, and the alto sax blowing his nose."
Moving pictures profile picture, Frank Zappa comment, on a dream theater song.
You're doing things right.
Holy crap I remember now...
Trunks vs the Androids brought me here
Listening to this song satisfies me
My favourite AC/DC tune
Not bad... but can they play smoke one the water ?
Ravenwing the real question is can they play slow ride on easy?
Funny thing is, they did the whole Made in Japan set for a live album. So yes, they can.
Probably in their sleep
Yes, in 15/16
And here I am struggling to do a paradiddle..
You wrote this comment 6 months ago, can you do a paradiddle now?
Quedaria perfecta para el soundtrack de algún videojuego futurista cómico.
The Prog-metal Beatles!✌🤘
Imagine mapping out the click track for this lol
I showed this to my brother and he asked what time sig this was
I said 'yes'
Why do I like the old Dream Theater from the late 90s and 2000s more than the new one...? Anyone else feels similar?
R. HESSING You are not the only one
Black Clouds & Silver Linings.
Yeah, I still like their new stuff, but things like 'Astonishing' seem a lot more repetitive, and there's SO MANY FUCKING BALLADS.
I'll tell ya why, Its because of Magini!
@@ricow2822 mangini's great tho
Still nothing compared to Behold The Arctopus's odd-time signatures.
Metropolis pt.1 for the random little bits in the intro
All these time signatures and I can't even discern them as a musically illiterate person.
i tried to play thison drums, its actually almost freakin impossible
ItzFuryBlitz i heard a beatbox cover
It's not hard to get the gist of it, but getting everything exactly right and in the pocket? That's a different story. I'm trying to learn this on drums right now, hard when I can't afford nearly as many drums as portnoy or mangini.
@@borisorlov9880 same
ItzFuryBlitz I know the song I learned a few months back. If you can learn songs while listening like me, it's definitely much easier. I am now learning Stream Of Consciousness - Now that's impossible!!! XD

;D
like si vienes por magafi :)
"Agora isso daí é fornicação hein"
Wow!!!
HOLY MOTHERFUCK! Insanely difficult song for drums, but still awesome.
but where are the lyrics?
+Juan Mora James was in the toilet D:
Hahaha! XD
Doesn't need any. I get dizzy just listening to this song constantly speed up and slow down, that's more powerful than words :)
MrGencyExit64 once upon a time some dickhead was telling me "the lyrics are the essence of the music. i listen this song and i confirm how wrong he was
Juan Mora Lyrics is written by John Myung :p
I legit sleep to this.
Música muito loca top.
The keyboard/Piano around 4.20 gave me goosebumps. If that makes any sense.
Pick a genera people!!!! Love it
kid 1: Hey
kid 2: ya
kid 1: Let's learn a good song!
kid 2: Which song fam?
kid 1: Dream theatre, Dance of Eternity!
kid 2: *CRIES IN CORNER*
kid 1: I guess I'll learn it myself!
ONE WEEK LATER...
Kid 1: hey!
Kid 2: What?
Kid 1: I learned .01 seconds in that dream theatre song I told you about
Kid 2: XD
Kid 2: *DIES IN LAUGHTER*
Kid 1: What?
Kid 2: Nothing... Just go!!! Hahahahahahahahahahhhhhqaaaa!
If you cant rember all the time signatures just try to remember the shit and play to it as a last resort lol
What the hell is that bass part tho
1/pi time signature if anyones wondering :P
Since tool helped me to open my third eye my taste in music has levelled up a thousand fold. Apologies if that comes off as really pretentious.
8/3/2020 Metal Monday pic on the show today
someone explain the description for me
2:47 gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
Why does John Myung equalizes his bass very low? :'c
Why do I feel like I'm in a Final Fantasy Boss Fight?
4:16
i wish i had a 6 string bass so i can try to learn this song
You're not alone.
João Matheus I have a 6-string but it is my first bass and I kinda suck at my right hand technique. I'm more of a guitarist haha
Can I have your bass
You couldn't
You only need 5. That solo halfway through would break my fucking fingers tho, so I don’t know if I would recommend trying to play it
Mastapiece
but does it djent?
108...
Where's one...? Where?!
Why the hell is Hillary Duff under my suggested videos
proof that only kids like labrie-era dream theater
because ancaps are children
Isn't every album except the first one and some demos Labrie-era?
+Mar W I think the other dude was just trying to be an edgelord
Majesty demos is Chris Collins, When Dreams and Days Unite is Charlie Dominicci, everything after that is James LaBrie
She was considered replacig Mike Portnoy actually, but she had her obligations towards her other band Crowbar
Wait, there's more rythyms than bass drum, snare, bass drum, snare?
When did this play in DBZ: The History of Trunks?
The intro
It's ΩμR theme song
Do someone know what music style is the one that plays on 2:32?
Ragtime :)
Thanks, bro!!
Marcelo V. Silva No problem, m8 :D
fucking noise
Is there a long version of 2:30 ?
tarkus ?
( ) I love tarkus but how is he related to this song
songs related to the part 1:50 ?
anything with a breakdown? any djent or core-ish band? is that what you're asking?
I mean the drums, it's very strong, some genre related?
yeah. Djent. Old school metalcore. Unless I'm still missing what you're saying. A simple pattern with snare hits as accents and the kick drum creating a pattern in with the guitars and bass follow with chugs is a breakdown. common in most metal genres.
