    Question: When setting up a lab environment with 4 routers I faced a situation where I needed to connect 3 interfaces on one of the routers; for that I needed to add an additional card as these routers only had 2 data interfaces ; it seems I also, after I did some research, that I needed to consider that 1 of the routers needed to be connected to the WAN port as it was being connected to the internet. The puzzle was that, on some of the interfaces, CISCO PacketTracer wouldn't allow me to add an IP address to them. I suspected that that interface might be acting as a switch port only on the router in question, but I tried different different cards and faced the same problem. So my question: What do you think I might have missed? thanks

    • @JeremysITLab
      @JeremysITLab  4 года назад

      I have had the same experience with packet tracer! Some of the interface card you can add are exclusively Ethernet switching interfaces, you can't add IP addresses to them (as you suspected!). Although, you said you tried different cards and it didn't work, so I'm not sure what the problem could be...

    Does it matter whether or not you use a crossover or straight through cable to connect the routers?

    • @mosasa1307
      @mosasa1307 2 года назад

      Not anymore, I believe. Most of today's networking devices have a feature called auto-mdix. I'm not sure if Packet Tracer supports that though. Just to be on the safe side, cross-over is for same devices and straight through is for opposite devices like switch and router. Hope that makes sense.
