    Thank you, I have my first autoharp and I am very very excited. I want to try practice with some Talk Talk songs that I love. going from guitar to autoharp is very strange. 😊

    One additional hint for newbies (and oldztheimers). ALWAYS make the first motion of your coarse tuning wrench in the loosening (going lower) direction. Every so often, you will end up with the wrench on a different string than the one you think you are tuning, and you will try to raise the pitch a little. And end up breaking strings as a result. (Ask me how I know).

    Thank you dear! You once mentioned that you were learning guitar and had a hard time due to finger strength? On Amazon you can buy a finger exerciser....one device allows you to exercise each individual finger....it will make a huge difference in your playing....it did me

      That’s very kind but I’ve played guitar since I was 12. I just never thought I was very good - just much prefer autoharp. Thx tho! 🤗❤️

    Hello Alice,
    Are tuning wrenches universal, or does each brand of autoharp require a specific wrench for tuning? I recently bought a used Oscar Schmidt that is still in the shipping process. I'm going to have to buy a tuning wrench as well.
    Thank you

      Great question! To be quite honest I had to look this up because it’s been a few years since I owned my Oscar Schmidt, that I sold, and my custom harps came with their own wrenches. But after doing some research online, it looks like no, they are not standard. According to some folks online it looks like the difference (in required wrench socket) can be dependent on harp age, model &/or brand. Moseying around online I see that some are hexagons, square, and octagonal sockets. Might actually is an octagonal. I hope this helps-so that you can figure out what wrench is specific to your brand and model. Look in Amazon reviews. Good luck! Thanks for the question. 🤗💞

    On my Oscar Schmidt it shows me the note, but how do I know the octave?

    • @aliceroseautoharp
      @aliceroseautoharp  2 года назад +2

      That’s a great question. If you’re more towards the wound strings you’re going to be in the bass clef, as you move towards the middle, you’ll be in mid-octave, and the thin strings that are not wound, are going to be in the high octave. Think about it like a piano-Most ‘harps have 2-2.5 octaves.

      @@aliceroseautoharp So, if I find the middle C I go higher to the right octave 2-3-4 and lower to the left of middle C would be 1-2....something like that?

    • @aliceroseautoharp
      @aliceroseautoharp  2 года назад

      @@ScarlettRussell I think the middle C on the piano is going to be in the middle of the (15ch) harp. Bass is 1 octave below, and upper register is 1 higher octave past middle C. But-I’m gonna corroborate w a friend of mine. I’ll report back. 🤗💞

      @@ScarlettRussell I checked in with a real pro today and she recommended getting a tuner that says the octave. Middle C is “C4.” A standard OS chromatic will start in the bass clef on “F2.” Hope this helps! 🥰

    What cord do you turn it up to?

    • @aliceroseautoharp
      @aliceroseautoharp  2 года назад

      You don’t turn it up to a cord you turn it up to a specific note. If you have a chromatic harp it will most likely have the letters near the metal pin Telling you what note the string should be. But all harps are going to be different especially from chromatic to diatonic
