  • In this video I look at two autoharps I found for sale in need of repair.
I look at one in detail and figure out how it works and how to repair it to a state of playability.
Autoharps are really interesting instruments and allow for some really nice sounds. It works by having many strings which are able to be muted to form desired chords.
I really enjoy find these broken instruments and learning how they work but also getting them playing again. If you also enjoy watching, please do share/like it means a lot to me.
I did buy a tuning key, though it is a little tight and only fits one harp. I would like something a little more robust.
Also please let me know if you have any interesting mod ideas for these, if they need modding at all.
    Thank you Dean

What an interesting instrument. I realize that I've heard these in the past, but didn't know what made the sound.

I am actually really enjoying it, it is a fun instrument to walk around the house playing.

There are basically 4 registers and correctly played by pinching the string area with the thumb and lower 2 to 3 fingers, (not the pinky). Basically by playing the 4 registers you can make it sound like a melody of 4 notes for the chord (or scale) so like Amazing Grace. By playing the registers of what you chord you can play the melody, am I making sense. When you strike the group try to aim for the string tof the melody. Watch you tube videos. Full set of strings 110+ 3 dollars each.

Good question. I would try a piano restoration shop. If you know the string size already they might be able to just sell you those. If not there might be some maths needed. Let me know if you get stuck .

The "A" "B" and "C" were probably to go along with a song book.

I think you are right, it would be interesting if I could find that book.
