I’ve spent summers working on builds and remodels with my uncle who’s a contractor, I’ve never personally done a project this massive, but I can envision how gorgeous it’s going to be when you’re done! The views alone are worth it! Hats off to you both for taking this on, seems like it’s been the adventure of a lifetime!

So true, they did have sleepless nights and it has not been easy to keep going for them. It is amazing how they have stepped up to the challenge. I've travelled around the UK and parts of Europe exploring and photographing abandoned, derelict buildings and many of them looked in a better condition than this! 😂
Gonna be a mammoth task renovation but an exciting one that will be well worth it!
Planning to do a roadtrip with Sarah to Scotland in a few months, maybe autumn, maybe spring, when we take a month out. May have to swing by and meet you both if you fancy it when we do 😊

If you haven't already go to their Instagram page #WhatHaveWeDunoon which explains how units were abandoned. Death of the Owner, Owner returning to the US when the US navy pulled out of the area, Other did not have the financial resources to fix the whole building etc, It was a cascade effect.

At 25 this looks exciting. At 62 I say I can't do it! I once could do anything now, not so much. Guard your health and enjoy you time as young folks. Time will catch up in about an hour and a half(by perception)

When you finish it will be beautiful that is for sure. I Think it would have been easier to build a whole new house yourself LOL my god that’s a huge task. But I respect what you are doing and it is so awesome to rebuild a beautiful old home. Old homes have a lot more character than cookie cutter new ones. This reminds me of the movie money pit....just not as funny because it is real life. Good for you guys can’t wait to see the finishing of it. It’s going to be beautiful. And it’s great ur neighbors are so helpful. I’m sure having this house fixed up helps bring up the price of the houses around it. Not sure if England is like America with that or not. It’s great they are helping
Judging by the support that they have had from the community everyone is appreciative that an eyesore is being restored and it definitely will make the neighborhood more desirable.
Nice to see you have started a channel. I hope you find the time to post regularly, though I understand how busy you 2 must be. I agree RUclips is best for self-promotion/revenue on your project. Check out RUclipsrs Life uncontained, Trent & Allie, or Indie Project as they all are building their home as well. However, your endeavor makes their build pale in comparison.
Just seen this on bbc video on here and did a we look and found you’re socials am from greenock. Go through dunoon alot on my bike in the summer months unlike use a had looked at this on online few years ago and other derlict property’s looking for a gem to do up. But when looked at this a thought yeah at needs nocked down. 😂😂 can’t beleave use accidently bought it but 🤣🤣. A take my hat off to use honestly. A will share see if can get use more subs 👌

No, we can't afford to. We will be in debt from the project and will need an income source to pay it off! We are going to rent the bottom two apartments out as holiday rentals! The upstairs will be a three bedroom home for ourselves 😊

We both work full time on the house! Cal is a carpenter, so he goes away for a couple months every year to make some money, and does odd jobs for neighbours and friends in Dunoon. I work as a bartender in the evenings after house building! We also make a bit of money from our blog, had some savings, borrowed some money from family, and our gofundme is a huge help to the project!
I just came across your journey through a fb post. I love this house and the town seems so beautiful. Id love to do this here in the states but with 2 kids thats hard.
You should get a go pro for each of you and wear them on your heads as you work so shooting footage is wayyy easier.
Also question. Do you guys plan on restoring it into multiple units or making it into one big home?
There were 4 units originally. The one top floor unit was very small, so they are making the top floor into one three bedroom unit for themselves and turning the two ground floor units into holiday lets.
Did people tear it apart? I mean what the heck happened where there squatters living there or something?? A house don’t get like that without someone lending a hand to the destruction.
I think that the elements did the most damage. With a leaking roof all the timbers started rotting. I am sure a couple of local kids helped it on its was by breaking a few windows.

Good question! We think it came down to joint ownership, demographics and local history! Sandbank, Dunoon used to be an American Navy base. In 1994, the military left, and halved the population of Sandbank over night! One of the four owners of Jameswood was American, and the demand for housing had dropped when the Americans left, so they just left the apartment without selling. The other owner was elderly, and moved out because the roof needed repairs, and other owner had recently passed away, and one young-couple was left with the responsibility of the whole building, and couldn't afford to make the roof repairs by themselves! As the roof got worse and worse, they eventually moved out, and the building went into further disrepair. A very sad story for Jameswood, but we'll give her a new life!
