I could watch this all day. Bravo on all of it. It took balls to take on that gargantuan process of clearing a hoard & then literally transforming the space. It's brilliant to see what you, your wife and friends achieved. You deserve massive respect. The writer in me is intrigued by the solitary hoarder, and the way the hoard literally infested his home. Hoarding is a mental illness which is a reaction to trauma and one of the least understood conditions. I'm autistic (just dx at 57)and I came here looking for home improvement stuff as I'm about to dismantle a house I've been filling with "things" for 12 years. This has helped me process my own hysterical reaction to loss, and my attachment to "everything" Let Go, Let God Much love to you all reading this from Ireland on New Year's Eve 2022 In 90 minutes it will be 2023!! I know that this video is 2 years old, but I wanted to let you know: there is a reason why walls should be light. Rental homes need emotionally and psychologically stable renters who will be able to keep a job and an income. White walls reflect much more light. Light is a base factor for human well-being. It improves the mood and makes you feel more awake and active. Light is seen by the amygdala, a gland inside our head. It regulates activity and happiness. Lack of light can lead to depression. That is why you always choose white walls, to improve your renters health - and protect your own wallet.
I’m not a hoarder but watching this makes me realize how our stuff we buy and keep doesn’t really matter in the end. Makes me want to be a minimalist watching this.
Why would you regret it? As long as you remember to keep what you need it is honestly a great idea. Minimalism doesn't have to be extreme, it can just be buying more mindfully and getting rid of junk.
A waterbed! I thought the pile was alive:) It's so much easier to clean a hoard when the hoarder is not around saying "I want to keep that, keep that, keep that, keep that.
It is! I tried helping my sisters in law and they kept saying “I need that. I can sell that. That’s (child’s name)s stuff. (They’re too old for it!)” I gave up and they can live in their filth!
@@KashFloPro Very nice work. I have been managing property renovations for over 10 years. You ever want some tips and tricks that might save you some cash feel free to ping me.
I developed the habit, in my early 20s to go through my things every year and to give or throw away anything I hadn’t used in the previous two years. My wife is the same as well. Having kids has changed our routine a bit, we do have more stuff than we’d like; but the habit has helped us from accumulating a bunch of unnecessary junk.
I declutter every 3 months. Also if I bring something in, something must go out. A nice extra super clean afterwards too, and regular cleaning throughout the week, it takes so much stress away plus you really think about whether you really want something or need it.
as a digital nomad for more than 10 years now, my life pretty much has to fit a in a large size + hand luggage so I've been used to do that on top of not buying much stuff to start with.
Way easier to customize for the buyer. It's not a deal breaker, but my heart sinks whenever I see a red accent wall or something in a home for sale lmao.
This was so cool to watch. Gray seems to be the go to color nowadays. I thought it was ok until I rented an apartment with all gray walls. I never realized how much color affected my mood until I lived in a gray apartment. It was beautiful apartment but the gray was causing me depression. My current place has white walls and I’m so much happier. It’s crazy how color can affect mood.
As a remodeling contractor for over 30 years, I commend you on a real nice job!...It takes vision and tenacity to tackle a mess like that!...Your hard work will serve you well going forward...Good health, freedom and success to you and yours...
I appreciate your comment, a real down to earth constructive comment, making notice of the amount of work needed and applied to make this vid. and the beautiful end result.
Great video! I thought the same thing about painting behind cabinets but then it was explained to me that the paint seals the drywall and if you don’t paint it drywall really absorbs a lot of smells and can make the house smell very bad after a couple years
As someone who does junk removal, and has filled many 20 yard dumpsters...I felt pain for you when you said it took 9 for the entire house..😭 my head is reeling at the amount we would charge for a job like that.. On a side note, watching someone do what I do for a living while comfortable in my bed was quite satisfying. Cheers, great video
Thanks! I am curious, what would something like that cost? We don't really have a lot of junk removal companies around here, at least not for a project like this.
@Kash Flo@@livingwithleelee before even factoring extra labor costs, the removal would be well into 6000-7000 dollars (just my estimate). Not a job I would personally look forward to. 😂 sorry for the late reply!
They got a clean hoarder house if that makes sense. Like he said in the video, luckily it wasnt nasty trash and animal waste. It was mostly random stuff, clothes and paper. Would have been a different story if he had any animals living with him. Things get horrible when people have animals or just never throw away their food or sanitary trash. Some hoarders are down right disgusting, but this one was just clutter.
I have found that the hoarders I know (a few homes) are all very clean people. They have an unhealthy relationship with "stuff" but you would never know it because they dress nice, smell nice, and people just don't see inside their homes. TV shows seek out the grossness because it's good TV. I would bet that's a small percentage of hoarders.
@@offhandacoustic I remember watching a TV show about hoarders once, there was stuff floor to ceiling with passage ways through the towers of clutter, am sure they found the hoarders dead cat that had died after a pile collapsed on it and the owner thought it had run off.
The painting behind the cabinets just feels like more of a sense of completion. It only takes a few more minutes, and it feels sooo much better!!! We recently had our kitchen redone, and the contractor didn’t want to paint behind the fridge. So, I painted it myself when they weren’t here. It would have been a perpetual source of irritation to me knowing it wasn’t complete.
That's an ocd tendency. I would paint it too or it would bother me, but a buyer or renter won't be bothered because they will never see behind them to know that they weren't painted.
I think it's more work to remember where the cabinets are supposed to goand stop painting there, than to just give the wall another stroke and finish it. And a bit of, don't just do it, do it right.
I've never seen such a clean hoard. You were very lucky those floors were so easily cleaned. Fantastic and impressive work here 😊👍 I love the flooring you put in. And I can tell the gray walls are a lighter color that they appear here. Very nice. You're also lucky to have the realtor for this one.
It's an amazing transformation! The hoarding, to me, is a clear manifestation of how material things can consume someone's entire life, finances and relationships; I can't imagine any aspect of one's life that wouldn't be affected by it, and I can't imagine how tragic it would be to live like that. So glad you were able to turn that house into something others can enjoy once more!
@@lql1094 No; hoarding is never because of a physical limitation. Speaking from personal experience, if someone has a health problem, believe me, the last thing they'll do is accumulate junk! Hoarding is a mental and emotional issue...
We bought a house recently and I have spent considerable time and energy on repainting a bunch of stuff. Here are some words of wisdom based on the experience: Don't use dark colors on the walls of rooms with no windows. School bus yellow is not an appropriate color choice, ever. Don't paint ceilings the same color as the walls (unless white). And folks, don't paint over the outlets!
I disagree. My entertainment room is completely black. Even the ceiling and ceiling fan blades. It looks amazing. All I am needing is black carpet but the carpet was new when I bought the house.
Would have loved to see the two sides around staircase with modern railing instead of boxed in with drywall. Really opens the space up, especially considering dark flooring choice.
its hard to put furniture up against , logically we know it can be done but there is a deep seated fear that people have and that they don't want to feel unsecure because what if the railing gave way? It doesn't help when in some movies people crash through railings in fight situations .
That's a good idea! At the time, I was not sure how my budget was going to turn out so was just trying to keep costs down for this level of home. In hindsight, knowing my budget turned out fine, I should have done something more creative there!
I prefer it with the drywall, not only can you more easily put furniture against it, you can also put artwork and pictures to decorate. It creates a set space for each room, and feels safer, especially if you have children.
My previous house had a upstairs living room with half walls over downstairs entryway leading into second living area. It could have been more open with railing instead of half walls, but it would have been unnerving, especially since I had a baby/toddler at the time. I think the solid half walls help separate the upstairs and downstairs living spaces, but keep some light and openness.
Dark paint colors make rooms feel smaller. Dark gray has a negative affect on the psyche. I learned this in real estate psychology and feng shui courses. You did a nice job, but the color choices are depressing. Good job on the white cabinets and the flooring.
I was a painting contractor for over 25 years. Two things I see that you might want to think about. 1. Primer. It makes every job look way better. And you almost never have to do more than a single coat of paint on a primed wall or ceiling 2. Texture and primer the ceiling. If you're going for a pseudo "smooth wall" finish, at least primer it.
Something I noticed too. The paint will show lines on the tape joints down the road. Also surprised on the formica countertops in the kitchen. Very 1970's. I understand the cost savings though.
@@johnsarcaneautos Yeah, I'm not crazy about that either, but he is smart to look at the area and stay within those boundaries. If formica counters are standard for that area, then it makes sense. It's a financial investment, not his personal home. He needs to not overdo it and eat up his profit unnecessarily.
@@johnsarcaneautos Every stain, tape line, paint line, mold, etc,.. will bleed through if you don't prime. I'd put formica in rental properties. Never in a flip. You lose half the money a kitchen remodel would have net if you used high end appliances and materials. To save what? 25% on material costs? You'll end up getting less and probably lose out on bidders. Most buyers are looking for turn key and don't want to spend money updating things like a newly remolded kitchen.
Thanks for the tips! Will have to try that next time, we always end up painting 2 coats of paint anyways, so 1 coat of paint and 1 of primer would be cheaper and apparently finish better. And yes, the counters were chosen because the neighborhood does not call for higher end finishes. Would not have made the house sell or rent for much more!
The papers in the bathroom were stuck together by water from the unused shower. And if the people clearing the place out ever want to sleep easy again, they'll believe that.
Absolutely incredible. I am super impressed at all you were able to do on your own with this house. I cleaned up my father's hoarder home after he passed and it took me about 10 months to clear everything out solo (as I couldn't trash everything, had to sort through it all), 5 dumpsters-full, and then another 7 months for gutting and renovations with actual crews of guys as I didn't have the stamina or knowledge to do it myself. Mold remediation, kitchen+3 bathrooms+basement all completely redone, new patio door plus new patio poured, finished basement out... it was an ordeal and a half in the middle of the pandemic! Never again!
I was married to a compulsive hoarder, and it was awful. I had a constant sensation of suffocation from his excessive possessions. He refused to give me space for my food in our refrigerator. I had to buy my own refrigerator because of this.
I am SO impressed that you were able to learn all these skills from RUclips. Of course!, you are very intelligent but not all of us could have done so well. Great job!
I've heard of contractors attaching their scraper to a shop vac when you want to remove a popcorn ceiling so you can catch almost everything as it falls. It might help limit exposure when working with ceilings known to have asbestos. Not sure if it would work for you guys but definitely something to keep in mind if it will help! Love the video!
Exactly. Most popcorn ceilings from the 1970s are riddled with asbestos and removing it can be dangerous if you don't take precautions to avoid airborne asbestos fibers and wear face masks and respirators.
@@caseyflorida if there really is asbestos in the ceiling you have to call specialized technicians to remove it... I know that in Europe the government itself takes care of the decontamination, might have something like that in the US too. Then again, it's uncommon nowadays to find un insulated asbestos ceilings/constructions here
@@caseyflorida wasn't aware of this fact and of course we have a home purchased from that era with a popcorn ceiling... will be certain to do the shop vac thingee when we scrape it off!
Popcorn ceiling otherwise known as Vermiculite and it almost always contains asbestos. Areas need to be bubbled and P3 respirator masks and full PPE worn, this is why it needs to be done by professionals. PS vinyl is also an asbestos product.
Wish the old owner was still around to see how good you made his home. Maybe this video will help inspire hoarders to try and clean up their homes a bit.
I feel so sorry for the owner and others like him, there must be underlying issues/mental health. I don’t think for a minute people want to live like that but something happened eg a bereavement, life spiralled out of control and then they were stuck. Think governments need to offer help, not judgement, for these people. Think this renovating guy did a good job & was pleased to read that sentimental things were handled sensitively.
@@joanneedwards5630 Usually this happens after they lost loved ones, like shocking losses that you'd never see coming. It leads to hoarding when it creates this mindset that makes it difficult to even part with an apple core without feeling loss.
Every single task you did was perfect. If I were doing this, I would have done each step the same way. It's so refreshing to see a younger generation taking pride in their work and paying attention to detail. I admire your drive, talent and knowledge. Great job!!!!!👍
Watching this was a huge pleasure :D I could not have done the clean up in a week, not even with a help of couple of friends... You guys were just so efficient, it's great! :)
The difference in the culture, lifestyle, and persona of the hoarder versus the OCD flipper is impressive, plus remarkable; two males at the opposite ends of the spectrum.
A hoarder has extreme OCD too. Their so obsessed with keeping everything including trash. I cleared a hoarders kitchen today for 4 hours and it looked like I did nothing!!
Interesting. Two different sides of the coin of OCD. One must maintain cleanliness and order, the other must keep every single item they have come into contact with or else both will suffer unbearable anxiety. (to be honest lots of people with OCD are messy. The people with OCD can only be neat freaks thing is a popular culture stereotype)

What an extremely large task to take on! I know that hoarding is a mental disorder. We'll never really understand what a person goes through in their life to end up like this. Thank you for making this house a home again. Impressive that everything is self taught. Kudos sir!
Seeing you do the kitchen backsplash and bathroom dense shield and tile is very inspiring after your comment that your skills are learned from DIY and RUclips. I also greatly appreciate your efficiencies and practical cost savings throughout. Your extra effort to record, edit and upload all of this with commentary is invaluable - Thank you!
I know a hoarder, everything has value. They would tear their house down and build a new one around their hoard to protect it. They have a few nice things, somewhere. So they say
We would never do vinyl floors. Toxic to make, toxic to throw out, toxic air quality in the home. People should really get back to using natural building products whenever possible.
didn't think i'd want to rent this house when I first started watching. After viewing the final product..hell yeah. i'd rent! good job! thanks for the video! good commentary too!
Wow, this is an incredible project and amazing video!! I immensely enjoyed watching it! For starters, the fact that you weren't afraid to buy the house when you looked at it. I'm also so impressed with how much you've taught yourself just from RUclips - you really are very talented. The video itself was a pleasure to watch. I like the angles you set up the cameras at, and you did a great job placing 2 views on the screen at once, plus your commentary video, which was informational, not just "cheap talk" like other youtubers do to fill the silence. Thanks for the awesome video and the inspiration!!
I’m not sure if you had the home tested or not but popcorn ceilings very often have asbestos due to the materials that were used when they were most popular. If you don’t test, I would use full PPE with a full face respirator and a hepa negative airfan.
Where I live, this would be illegal. It's well known that these ceilings contain asbestos, and the penalties for removing it without abatement of dust are severe!
My husband has been in the asbestos industry for 45 years. My good man, you just exposed you and your workers to a horrible cancer. You would be fined big time in Washington and Oregon. Please never do that again!!!
I used to be a hoarder id hold on to anything. Now I just have a lot of stuff. I have collections and many crafts but it's all neatly organised just got to reorganise my new bedroom! I just dont know how someone could live like this. I'm glad you were able to clear it. Goes to show the stuff we hang onto doesn't matter when we're gone!
amazing transformation haha I agree though, I would've just painted white / a lighter color, watching all that grey go up killed me :D but that's just me!
Thank you! It's funny how people like different styles - painting all white would have killed me to see 😂 In the end it all looks good though, and you never know what the end buyer/renter will like anyways.
while i think using the same color can save time and money, gray is very taste specific and isn't really a neutral color that can go with all types of decor. It can be very depressing and set a dark moody tone to a room...but its one person's opinion and as you can tell by the comments everyone has different tastes in decorating. All that aside, nice job and you have a great ability to see the potential in an overwhelimg mess.
Fabulous job.... might I suggest next time you are on multi level house with skip under the windows, to make an open chute with sides , to throw the runbush onto. It will slide down straight into the skip. You can move it easily to each window. No need for ropes on the bins
Nice job! My husband and myself did this for 25 years, it makes great family memories. A really nice job and self taught as well. Keep up the good work.
@@KashFloPro you did right. I dont know a single contractor that puts insulation in an interior wall. At most, you’d do soundproofing and certainly not on a reno, unless you’re doing it for yourself.
@@Wendifur_ not just a little bro, it dampens it alot! i know cause i build houses for a living and in some projects we try to save money for the customer so we dont insulat some inner walls but everytime we dont insulate the customer calls us back because of the sound and ends up paying for the extra insulation
@@cazztk2161 I agree, having that sound protection goes a long way when a group of noisy teens are around. If it were a remodel for personal use yes. But for a flip? I feel it would have been helpful, but it would have taken more supplies and man hours. It wouldn't have been practical for him.
You should avoid putting a "nook" in a small shower opposite the wet wall because the constant spray will cause the joints to leak in a short time. Always put them either under the shower head or in the corner of that wall. If you can't do the wet wall, the wall adjacent to the wet wall is a secondary choice.
wow! this was amazing to watch. Over many decades my late husband and I renovated several houses. You have done an excellent job here. brought back a lot of wonderful memories. Thank you for posting :)
Wow!! This house turned out great. For not being a “professional” you did an amazing job. I wish more people would renovate houses that are still in good shape. Thank you for a entertaining video.
Wow! It’s really sad to see when people aren’t able to maintain their homes whether it’s due to medical or mental health issues. You guys did a fantastic job with this house and have it a new life! 😊
It’s very... grey 🥲 the dark grey colors were very much loved in like 2010 and you could find it everywhere but now it’s definitely too dark with the dark brown floor. Would have loved to see a brighter grey, that actually makes the space neutral, as grey kinda should do instead of darkening it.
What's on My Mind. That is what I was thinking too. Too much of a good color, makes the house look like one big room of grey but like I said the over all renovation is awesome
Insane amount of patience you have! Wonderful clean up of the hoarder house. Your renovation was simple, clean and open. The battleship grey is daunting - a neutral "mud tone" would of been my choice.

Very nice job young man, I am a retired General Contractor for approx. 30 years in Calif. This what I did for my last seven years while living in Juneau Alaska, then moved and retired. You have picked a wonderful career to get in to. I hope you and your wife have as much fun as i did. God Bless

Great job, congratulations. After seeing what the house was like before I could never have imagined such a beautiful and precise renovation. Greetings from Italy 🤗
You did a beautiful jog. Before I was married, I owned my home and learned to,hang and finish drywall and you are right, it is not a fun job. I actually went through every room and remodeled. It was a lot of fun, I learned a lot but it was hard work. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. God bless.
You should win an award for best before and after video. Great job! I like the wood you added. It's not one of my favorite floor plans but you made it nice.
For longevity and especially for being able to properly clean between tenants, details like having a backsplash are crucial. You do not want food being prepared and cooked against an unwashable, painted wall; that's just a recipe for disaster.
Same goes for the wall behind the toilet. In my rentals where most hall baths have a toilet adjacent to the vanity, we continue the tile from the backslash behind the toilet (i.e. a halfwall of tile). This creates a hard surface that protects against water damage and can be readily cleaned with a steamer. Same for shower/tub enclosures - always take the tile to the ceiling. Also, as tempting as is vinyl flooring, in a rental we always tile. It's not as susceptible to water damage by tenants. For that matter, in rentals we use porcelain rather than ceramic tile for kitchen, baths, etc. because it's less likely to break or chip.
I love watching flippers take a rundown house & make it i to a beautiful home, but I've never seen a hoarders house before. This was a masterpiece, it's beautiful now. 👍🙋♀️
You did an amazing job! One thing I would never do is rent it. Sell it at it's peak and walk away. I would be curious as to what you paid for the house and what you sold it for. You really didn't cut corners at all. I think this would be a wonderful house to own. You deserve whatever profit you made! You are such a hard worker and you have excellent friends! 😊
This was awesome! I can't imagine how exhausting cleaning it out was. You have great friends! It turned out beautiful. All my favorite finishes, if I was choosing a home.
This looks awesome. Great choice on turning it into a long term investment, especially now with the price rise in literally everything. You should make a video explaining the real estate side of things alongside your budget.
Whoah Dude this was insane..i really like what you have done.. Also the clean up was absolutely incredible..it mustve been 30 years of Chuck it over there, there and there..You got there in the end and now its shiny and practically new again..well done..thanks for sharing..i thoroughly enjoyed watching this
A suggestion for installing the lower cabinets of your kitchens: instead of using 4 adjustable legs on every base cabinet, start by installing a strip of wood on the wall below the cabinet, at the toe kick height. It’s easy to install this perfectly level, and with the top edge of the strip as a ledge to sit your cabinets on, your kitchen will be perfectly level all around. Use the adjustable legs on the front only to level the cabinet from front to back.
I like the height of the tile and don't mind the fixture, but yes, more light needed in the kitchen. Under-cabinet lighting (built in, no wires trailing) would be a great inexpensive selling feature and solve most of the inadequate lighting problem.
Amazing transformation. From a layperson's perspective, I would only do a few things differently. A shade lighter on the paint just because it looks very dark in the video and there's not really enough natural light to counteract it. Although that could be just because of the video, I suppose. No wood paneling on the walls. At all. Lol, but that's probably a personal preference. I would have had a bathtub in the upper bathroom. If a young family moves in, they'd need a place to bathe their kids. Finally, I would have left the part of the railing that goes down with the staircase as an actual railing and not drywalled in. The upper part that became a half-wall was a good choice, I think, because it makes a place to back furniture up against and, again this is personal preference, feels safer. But a nice railing on the diagonal section would be cool.
Loved everything. I would only make one change (this is just my preference) get longer curtains that go to the floor. Great job, you gave a lot of great tips for diy home remodeling.
First video of yours I've ever seen. I was blown away. It's gorgeous! Everything. So satisfying to watch. I wish I could hire you for my home. I would be beyond amazed. You definitely have a new subscriber!
Cheaper and easier does not always mean lower quality! I buy materials that are the best quality for their price, I always try to get the most bang for my buck. I do things that are easier and can save me time, so I can finish the house faster. That doesn't mean I cut corners or do bad work. I realize there are bad flippers out there, but as Kaotic said not all new builds are perfect either!
@@TREE52HD Nothing wrong with the way new houses are built. That's the beauty of advancing the science of engineering: you can build things properly instead of overbuilding everything. Unless you live in some palace it doesn't matter how strong your walls are, nobody is going to still want to live in your house in 150 years.
What an awesome job! We’ll done, such a remarkable transformation. And great job capturing it all on video. I get excited if I can mount a shelf correctly. This is really impressive.
@ 28:50 you put tape on your tile to run caulking . Here’s a tip to illuminate the tape. When silicone caulking , spray clear window cleaning, Windex ( the clear, kind not the blue color ), on your bead of caulking then wipe it with your finger, and it WILL NOT SMEAR. Try that that makes a big difference !!!! because I use to have the same problem until an Old Contractor showed me.
This was my first time watching this type of video. Amazing that you learned so much via RUclips video AND then applied it. Splendid video and great aesthetic taste. I have subscribed. Thank you for creating this for the world to see.
Beautiful transformation. That was like a rollercoaster ride. Seeing just how bad of a state the house was in at the beginning, then watching it transform really left a good feeling. I was thinking about all the skills you had and was wondering how long it took you to develop them and where you honed the skills. When you said you learned them mainly on the internet I was floored. That is some serious determination.
This was very satisfying to watch. The whole clean up and installation of everything new, the updates and great decisions making of what materials to use in the home. Big ups to the wife who did the painting ( I too love to paint and it's very calming and soothing to do), great Job wifey!!
Love it came out great!!!! Only thing I would do is put some moulding above the kitchen cabs to close that gap and bring the eye up more. Beautiful transformation
Agreed! Great job indeed, I also wonder what the reasoning was for not closing the huge gap and the end of the range wall. Looks like about a 4-5 inch gap between the wall and the cabinets. Would've preferred a cabinet above the sink instead of a light. Since they took away the pantry, maximizing as much storage space as possible would be my thought process. Since it turned out to be a rental, I also agree with most comments posted already about that most renters don't mind. Kudos on the hard work!
I've helped clear a few houses in my time, generally book collections, and it's amazing what you find, and where you find things. For example, one lady had hung perhaps her most precious piece of jewelry on the rear of a wardrobe and we just never figured out how she had done it without pulling the wardrobe out. A great video, by the way.
Awesome end result! Aesthetically, I wouldn’t have tiled behind sink unless it went all the way to ceiling and two or three shelves were added. Another small fitted flush cabinets to those left and right with a down light would also have worked.
Yes, high cabinet over sink up to the ceiling, LED puck light in bottom of cabinet, tile up to the bottom of the cabinet, decorative shelf or two depending on the space. The wiring is already there, essentially.
The nice thing about cleaning this house is that you have NO emotional attachment to anything here. Makes cleaning easier to just throw away the ;trash;. Good video. I'm amazed at how much plumbing you did on your own.
Amazing job! You did a lot of impressive work. I think the haze grey walls bring down the value, though. As a potential homebuyer, I'd be looking at those walls and thinking about all the time and money it would take me to repaint so I don't feel like I live in a battleship. Or a prison.
@@KashFloPro Fair enough! Of course you should choose a color you like. I'm super impressed that you took on this project. You turned that place into a home again and I'm sure the whole neighborhood appreciates it.
We do grey as well but it's very light, only dark enough to contrast with white door and trim and cabinets. It's nice because it kind of absorbs the general tint of the aesthetic of the decor. Warm lights, blue curtains, whatever, the walls kind of adapt and blend in.
@@KashFloPro I like painting each room in the house a different color and like the colors of light tan light yellow and light blue I don't like it all white or that all grey and like peach mixed with white and some yellow color light pink mixed with a little purple With a can of white latex paint you can make alot of different colors even that grey color
Drywall is a poor sound barrier. Insulation in the walls keeps heat in, cold in and helps minimize sound transfer between rooms. Putting up the wall in the basement to create another room but not insulate is an oversight. If someone is using the basement family room while someone is in that bedroom, they will hear everything.

Hoarding is a mental illness which is a reaction to trauma and one of the least understood conditions. I'm autistic (just dx at 57)and I came here looking for home improvement stuff as I'm about to dismantle a house I've been filling with "things" for 12 years. This has helped me process my own hysterical reaction to loss, and my attachment to "everything"

We need to remove the cancer of hoarding!

Don't do it. You will regret it.
Why would you regret it? As long as you remember to keep what you need it is honestly a great idea. Minimalism doesn't have to be extreme, it can just be buying more mindfully and getting rid of junk.

Having kids has changed our routine a bit, we do have more stuff than we’d like; but the habit has helped us from accumulating a bunch of unnecessary junk.

Considering this is a hoarder house, underneath wasn't that bad. I expected more damage considering the tv show on TLC.
I was weirdly expecting it to be worse than it was.
Agreed 100%, so was I! We were lucky it was in such great shape underneath.
Makes sense. I would do behind the fridge for sure, cause you can see that at times at least!
Yeah, laziness. Lots of cutting corners. Oppressive paint colour too!
It's good to prime and paint everything. Then when it come to installation everything is a snap. Plus your sealing the drywall.
Thank you very much!
Sadly, I agree with what you said. Thank you!!
Hoarding is an anxiety disorder and a form of mental illness.
@@msuebentley Exactly; the manifestations end up having the same effect on one's life...
I think many hoaders have physical health problems that stop them from cleaning and maintaining.
All very good tips!
I painted my room bright yellow when I was growing up. It was and still is a great colour.
You forgot: Never, ever, ever paint over wallpaper.
I disagree. My entertainment room is completely black. Even the ceiling and ceiling fan blades. It looks amazing. All I am needing is black carpet but the carpet was new when I bought the house.
dark walls show more of the imperfections. I learned from experience. These grey wall weren't very dark.
Would have loved to see the two sides around staircase with modern railing instead of boxed in with drywall. Really opens the space up, especially considering dark flooring choice.
I agree with that 100%
its hard to put furniture up against , logically we know it can be done but there is a deep seated fear that people have and that they don't want to feel unsecure because what if the railing gave way?
Ditto, my friend has a construction company and always told me to make sure to do that.

Thanks, and great tip! Might have to try that next time.
@@caseyflorida wasn't aware of this fact and of course we have a home purchased from that era with a popcorn ceiling... will be certain to do the shop vac thingee when we scrape it off!

You should avoid putting a "nook" in a small shower opposite the wet wall because the constant spray will cause the joints to leak in a short time. Great job, congratulations. After seeing what the house was like before I could never have imagined such a beautiful and precise renovation. Greetings from Italy 🤗
Thank you very much!
This shows how much a house can change by just adding laminate floors and choosing a nice color for the walls!
Agreed, thank you!
@@KashFloPro You did a great job :)
You do not want food being prepared and cooked against an unwashable, painted wall; that's just a recipe for disaster.
agreed ! my rental's back walls always look terrible despite cleaning.
I didn't even think of that when I put up the backsplash, but that's a good point. Thanks for the tip!
@@coolcpa3321 That's a good tip for behind the toilets, too. I did that once on a flip house, but just for looks not thinking about the cleanliness!
I love watching flippers take a rundown house & make it i to a beautiful home, but I've never seen a hoarders house before. This was a masterpiece, it's beautiful now. 👍🙋♀️
Thank you very much!
Thank you! I have some videos explaining why I actually did keep it as a rental for tax reasons and why that turned out to be a good idea.
@@KashFloPro Well, I wish you all the success in the world! 😉
This was awesome! I can't imagine how exhausting cleaning it out was. You have great friends! It turned out beautiful. All my favorite finishes, if I was choosing a home.
Thank you very much! Yes, great friends and a lot of work 💪
This looks awesome. Great choice on turning it into a long term investment, especially now with the price rise in literally everything. You should make a video explaining the real estate side of things alongside your budget.
Thank you! Yes, I am planning to do that soon!
Whoah Dude this was insane..i really like what you have done..
Also the clean up was absolutely incredible..it mustve been 30 years of Chuck it over there, there and there..You got there in the end and now its shiny and practically new again..well done..thanks for sharing..i thoroughly enjoyed watching this
Thank you very much!
Good for you ,kid. I love a man who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. Good job.
Thanks!
Absolutely gorgeous! I would take the tile to the ceiling in the kitchen next time- it looks off stopping at the light.
Thanks, and I agree I would do that area differently in hindsight!
Or...he could add 3 shelves. 1 under the light and 1 one each side.
I like the height of the tile and don't mind the fixture, but yes, more light needed in the kitchen. Under-cabinet lighting (built in, no wires trailing) would be a great inexpensive selling feature and solve most of the inadequate lighting problem.
I think it looks fine.
Great job! Walls are to dark for me but it's your lovely house. I hear you on cost but the staircase was so dark is there a way to leave it open?
So fortunate to have such good friends.
Great work, that's a phenomenal transformation! Would've loved to see a walkthrough tour to really piece it all together.
Thanks for the tips, actually planning to do a few of those things on the next one!
Loved everything. I would only make one change (this is just my preference) get longer curtains that go to the floor. Great job, you gave a lot of great tips for diy home remodeling.
Thanks! Not a bad idea, but with the electric baseboard heaters there, I couldn't go much longer without a fire hazard.
First video of yours I've ever seen. I was blown away. It's gorgeous! Everything. So satisfying to watch. I wish I could hire you for my home. I would be beyond amazed. You definitely have a new subscriber!
Thank you very much!
Every time time you say we did it because it was cheaper and easier it confirms my belief that I would not buy a flip.
Just wait till you see how brand new homes are built then 😳
@@TREE52HD that’s why you buy a used house in a nice neighborhood. They don’t make them like they used to…
Cheaper and easier does not always mean lower quality!
@@ev6558 Not if it's a brick and mortar house:
What an awesome job! We’ll done, such a remarkable transformation. And great job capturing it all on video. I get excited if I can mount a shelf correctly. This is really impressive.
Thanks so much!
Thank you very much!
Wow! Can't believe i watched the whole 45 minutes! I am so impressed! EXCELLENT JOB!!! I can only dream for a place like this...💜💜💜💜👍👍👍
Beautiful transformation.
Thank you so much!
This was very satisfying to watch. The whole clean up and installation of everything new, the updates and great decisions making of what materials to use in the home. Big ups to the wife who did the painting ( I too love to paint and it's very calming and soothing to do), great Job wifey!!
Thanks!
Thank you! Yes, I could have added that to the cabinets just didn't think it was worth the time and effort for this house.
Thanks!
Awesome end result! Aesthetically, I wouldn’t have tiled behind sink unless it went all the way to ceiling and two or three shelves were added. Another small fitted flush cabinets to those left and right with a down light would also have worked.
Thanks! I agree... that is one area I would do differently if I could do it all over again!
Thanks, and yes good point!
You did a beautiful job! Smart to make the house 3 bedrooms! Loved the floors!
Thank you!
This house was in great shape honestly once all the trash was removed
It really was actually, I was very pleasantly surprised!
Amazing job! You did a lot of impressive work. I think the haze grey walls bring down the value, though. As a potential homebuyer, I'd be looking at those walls and thinking about all the time and money it would take me to repaint so I don't feel like I live in a battleship. Or a prison.
Thanks! Funny, my wife and I think the same thing when we see all white or all tan walls 😂 Everyone's got their own style!
I dislike white only walls. Reminds me too much of the hospital. Boring and sterile. I like the gray as I find it cozy.
@@KashFloPro I like painting each room in the house a different color and like the colors of light tan light yellow and light blue I don't like it all white or that all grey and like peach mixed with white and some yellow color light pink mixed with a little purple
With a can of white latex paint you can make alot of different colors even that grey color
