So lucky to be stationed there from 1986-89; now I realize what a unique experience it was. I want to relay to the local Dunoon population how happy BOTH the community and the US Navy service people were. Seeing other newer Dunoon videos, the economic impact after 1992 was felt strongly; let's hope that you have more stalwart people like Claire and Cal, along with others trying to keep business going.
We lived in Sandbank during the same time period. 70-71. We were in a flat in Ravenswood House. I've looked at Google Maps and I don't think it's there now.
I have followed their story on instagram for a while now, and it is amazing to see the progress that they have made. I live just cross the water from them, and have admired their work from a stones throw away. it has truly made me consider moving there since living in Inverclyde is just not thriving. Seeing this makes it more enticing because the community seem really sweet and just want whats best for everyone - something i feel lacks here.
I was in the Navy stationed at Holy Loch. Went to Dunoon often. Left there in 71. Would love to go back again and see this beautiful place.

A brilliant approach to sustainable living. Well done to Cal and Claire. 🎉
Great story! The tenacity of these two is inspiring. Thank you for sharing this.
