  • Hopefully, this video explains how shove knives can be used as a respectful entry option against spring loaded beveled latches (outward opening doors). It also talks about using plastic door shims (‪@JobTownTools‬) on inward opening doors. Lastly, it explains how the dead latch (a.k.a. Anti-loiding pin) is designed to stop loiding attempts, and how we can take it out of the equation.
This is an excerpt from a through the lock presentation I did for Fire Service Women Ontario.

What would be your thoughts on attacking an in swinging door with a rabbited jamb ? Ran into this the other day. Door was pretty tight, not much clearance.

Plastic door shims would be my plan A. I carry 2… a thin one for right doors and a thicker one for for stiff latches.
If my plan A of loiding the latch doesn’t work, then I would switch to a through the lock method (I.e pulling the door knob and manipulating the lock mechanism… I’ll post a video of this eventually).
Another option would be picking the lock (I.e. raking or bumping the lock cylinder pins).
