@@vivinestian the mandison alligations came after the gamers nexus callout but before they uploaded their video, he missed a major point which is that linus sold a cooler prototype without permission (after testing it wrong) and defended himself saying he didnt sell it rather he auctioned it, linus does own the company but he stepped down as ceo, former lmg employees came out confirming mandison's story, what linus suggested was journalistic practice of reaching out literally isnt normal (I personally asked a journalist with 20 years experince in news) and this isn't linus' first time being accused of sexual assualt. people were also mad at linus' (apology) because he made the same mistakes gamers nexus orignally called him out for. there were mistakes that his editors caught and the whole video shouldve been scraped since madison's story came out before it was published. not to mention they plugged their merch in the video
This video missed some of the crucial arguments of this entire drama.
1. Linus made a video a few weeks back reviewing a start up company's prototype. He tested it on the wrong computer part, and then berated the product for being dumb. When faced with criticism, Linus (on his podcast) said it wasnt worth the extra employee time to test it again properly. The situation became even worse when Linus auctioned the prototype away instead of returning it. Keep in mind this is for a start up company, and it was their best prototype. Linus posted on his forum trying to defend this action saying "We didnt sell it, we auctioned it". Whilst also saying they gave the money away for charity, bringing in an innocent 3rd party.
2. The response video brought heavy backlash as it was filled with sex jokes and plugins for their merch store.
3. The employee alligations become worse. Because they are confirmed to be true, do to a leaked audio of a meeting back in 2021. Maddison (the employee who left) left a bad review also explaining the work place around the same time. Her tweets have also been liked by current & former LTT employee's.

For starters, Linus had asked billet labs if they could test it on a 4090 and they said it should work OK, maybe? They weren't sure as billet labs didn't have a 4090 to test it on. This info clarifies the video imo. Still not great but it makes sense why they had a 4090 with that context.
Secondly, his thoughts on the product was that it was stupid. Not necessarily bad hence his comments that it could run 20 degrees cooler and he still wouldn't recommend it as its expensive and very gimmicky. Retesting with a 3090Ti would've yielded the same outcome which is why he didn't see a reason to retest. That was the point he was making. However Luke rightly said that even if it's a stupid product. Some people out there would still buy it, and many would still be interested in seeing it tested with a 3090Ti (which is what the block was designed for) so it would've been better to test it with a 3090Ti as to be thorough in their tests.
Thirdly. Linus did not auction it off. His company did. Not Linus. The team in charge of item inventory etc failed to mark the block correctly, so it ended up being placed in to stock for the auction by mistake. It was then sold at auction before anyone knew it wasn't meant to be. How is an employee meant to know, right? A classic case of miscommunication. Not linus's fault as it wasn't his mistake. It was his company's mistake though so I guess he does take some of the blame.
Also, after realising what had happened, Colton wrote up an email addressing the issue, but failed to add billet labs to the recipients if said email, which meant the email never left LMG. This was realised the day GN posted their video on the subject.
The apology video btw, was hardly filled with what you said. The main backlash from the video was that it was initially monetised but they quickly turned that off.

9:33 Correction: Linus does in fact own Linus Tech Tips, the company. Terren being the CEO basically means that he's the lead executive of the company, driving the business, but Linus is still the owner of that business.
Terren drives but its Linus' car.
Linus us now CVO (Chief Vision Officer) basically meaning he directs the ship, but the CEO does all the work to get it going in that direction.

1: Gamers Nexus video came before the Madison allegations. Another former employee that left on good terms does back up what she said.
2: Missed the most important part about the Billet Labs prototype waterblock review video.. Linus installed it wrong and trashed the company and then he said he didn’t want to spend $100 to retest the product even knowing he did it wrong. Then they subsequently auctioned off the prototype block at LTX without permission from Billet Labs after they had asked for it back multiple times.
3: Linus still owns LMG, it’s a private company. He only stepped down from being CEO 2 months ago but still has veto power over decisions and can fire the CEO whenever. Same goes with Musk at Twitter/X. Not CEO but still has all the power to do whatever they want.
4: The apology video was monetized and plugged the merch store.
1. The former employee might be madisons friend. Take that with a pinch of salt. It's not confirmation. Wait for the investigation by 3rd party to be completed ffs.
2. LMG had asked Billet Labs if it would work on a 4090 and they responded with essentially a we don't know. That imo is why they tested it on one.
3. Not $100... $500. Not that it really matters. The real point was he felt it was an overpriced gimmick so even if it performed better, say 20°c cooler, he still would not have recommended the product which is why he didn't want to retest it. Still a bad decision but there was at least some logic to it.
4. The block was mislabbled while in inventory. It wasn't sold intentionally and Linus himself was not involved. LMG and Linus are two different things lol
5. LMG were aware of the mistake and had attempted to email billet labs. Colton, who wrote up said email, forgot to add Billet Labs to the recipients list, so the email never made it to them.
6. Linus is CVO or Cheif Visionary Officer. He doesn't deal with running the company so much anymore as that's Terran's job now as CEO. Linus essentially heads the company's content production, which is the main focus of the company.

I Honestly never thought I'd see Linus of all people in the tech space to be making bad moves. Linus is doing too much, too fast and it's hitting his team hard.

Little correction for you Pyro: Linus owns Linus Media Group as a shareholder, but he stepped down as soon as he could get Tarren into the boat as a CEO, because in his words, he is the only one to really be able to handle Linus. And to add to that Linus admitted to be overwhelmed but he hold onto the CEO postition so long, becaused he didn't want anybody but Tarren for the already mentioned reason.

assault allegations were before the linus vid but after the gamersnexus vid and were corroborated by some former colleagues and a recording of a meeting;
it wasnt on reddit, it was on his forum;
he still owns the company just doesn't do CEO stuff, but hes kinda like the monarch of it, owns it but is not doing anything;
the apology vide was bad, full of plugs for merch;
not the first allegations against linus/his company about SA;
they got a prototype waterblock from a company, reviewed it on the wrong graphics card and later sold it at LTX (auctioned for charity, he used that as a defence but just pulled in an innocent charity to the problem) despite the company having asked for it back;
more things im probably missing.

The problem is not that he's wrong, it's that they are starting the lab, which basically a way of conveying that they are never wrong. Pyro can be wrong because he admits to making slop, but Linus advertises otherwise

@@XenonArcher Basically, it'd be fine if LTT was just wrong, but they're often wrong _and_ they never correct stuff unless called out _and_ they correct things in the way that least impacts their bottom line (so, shoddily or way too late) _and_ to top it all off, they have the gall to promote themselves based on their objectivity and accuracy.
@@HunterTracks most corrections they make are in video. Usually text on screen. It's not often they have to pin a comment under the video correcting anything. Yes, some mistakes have slipped through but let me remind you of the fact that LMG has only been doing proper thorough testing for a couple years unlike GN or Hardware Unboxed who have both been at it for over a decade now. The only time I've seen where they didn't accept that they made a mistake, was the pwnage mouse. And even then, they did concede that point once they realised a mistake did happen.
Like, at least they correct their mistakes and don't hide them, unlike GN lol. If they make a mistake, the video gets deleted and that's about it. To be fair to GN, I've only ever seen it once personally, but I don't watch their videos very often. And the time I did see was fucked. (tested an $800 pre-built gaming pc. Ran only synthetic tests that hit the system hard. Complained about high temps. Didn't run a single real world test and shat all over the product. Then deleted the video so yeah. Not great imo) But it happens. Every tech channel has made mistakes.
Imo it's really not a big deal anyway as only watching one channel to inform you of hardware performance etc is a bad way to go about things which is why I watch JayzTwoCents and Hardware Unboxed too, and GN rarely. Pretty much every channel, besides GN, tell people to watch other reviews to gain better perspective. JTC does this all the time in fact.
Also it was never linus who said anything about being more accurate than competitors. It was one employee who honestly should've shut up, cus he should know that right now, at this moment in time, labs is not as accurate. They're still figuring out their process. Still fine tuning their automated system etc. And most of the lab is still being set up too.
So right now it isn't more accurate as again, they're competing with people who have a setup that works, and have done for years. I don't think linus hinself would disagree with that right now
