Earlier today I decided to walk out of my house and take a look at the outside. It almost looked nice. I was about to put my shoes on and step out to get a better look at the grass. When suddenly I got a notification that my daily slop was ready! I immediately dismissed the silly idea of stepping outside. Went back to my dark and stinky room and began to consume my slop. Thank you Pyro!

They deserved to be shut down.. I’m a saints row fan but this new one was shit and they basically told us to like it or fuck off. I’m glad they got shut down for biting the hand that feeds them
Volition's shutdown is a sign of why you shouldn't disrespect your fanbase in the worst way possible. Instead of doing right by the people that made their franchise successful in the first place, they made a complete bastardation of their own series and insulted everyone for not agreeing with it. Couldn't have imagined a better fate for a company that completely destroyed themselves from the inside.
Did the same people from older saint games even work on this one? I would imagine that all the old staff left and the higher ups just threw this franchise at a new inexperienced team.

Worst part about the death of the Saints Row team is that there were 2 guys working on a Saints Row 2 remaster/remake, optimising it for PC.
However one of the devs passed away from cancer about a year or two ago, who was in charge of coding.
Any hope of bringing back a peak game went down the drain after his passing. Hardly anyone had any hope with the official Saints Row reboot when we came to hear of it.
I'll miss you, Volition. Even though you messed up towards the end, I won't forget the childhood I had because of you. I love Red Faction 1 on PS2.

I honestly believe Saints Row 2 is one of the best open world games ever made, really good story with great characters all packed in a fun experience.

Saints Row 2 was definitely one of my favorite games growing up. The main story was great and really made you feel like you were going from a small gang to one that was taking over the entire city. The multiplayer was awesome too, I remember playing countless hours of it with my friends where we would just cause chaos lol. Good times.

as one of the more OG fans entering the series shortly after 2 came out, i'd been holding out hope that SR goes back to its roots for over a decade at this point, it was a shame, and inevitable that this happened
i remember when us in the SR community first saw that wall (iykyk) and we went insane. turns out it was the beginning of the end of volition.

Agents of Mayham was already the first nail in the coffin for Volition, Saints Row Reboot just sealed the deal.
I think if they stuck with Agents of Mayhem, they could turn it around into something new (I enjoyed it, though it was a very different experience). The people who replaced the veterans killed the company imo.
I liked how pyro said "it's pyro time" and started pyroing all over 14 years olds with breaking bad and fortnite addictions. Truly marveling man
The channel “Flippy” gives a bit more of an inside look from testimonies of Volition (or at least those that talked with him). His NDA cleared up, so he could freely talk about this stuff outside of closed doors.
However, I’d like to give a warning that most of it is just him reciting what he’s been told or knows, and he doesn’t expressly show damning evidence of much. But tbh, with the shady stuff that companies will do that developers cannot speak about thanks to NDAs, I do get the feeling that there’s truth to it.
But yeah, if you want to look further into why the Saints Row reboot sucked, I recommend checking Flippy out.

pyro put fat fempyro in all of the games. He put it on the Noplay station, completely bypassing the censors. He put in my Xbox Series fridge, completely contaminating all my poutine to the point not even the salt particles were safe. Put it on the nintendo switch and made it the nintendo set, making it possible to play games at a 721 HD.

This is really tragic and I'm scared that they'll never finish and post Saints Row 2 PC patch
That’s something up in the air. Deep silver still owns the rights, and with volition gone, will most likely shelve it or have some other company continue production. However, since the patch will take time and money to complete (and other financial issues they’re currently facing), I doubt they’ll continue it.
My condolences go out to Chipcheezum, a Let's player I've been watching for years who worked at Volition as an editor and was personally affected by the shutdown.
There was even a Breaking Bad reference in Saints Row. It’s all coming together 🥶

SR4 is one of my favorite games cause it’s the dumb fun. And the characters were actually good too compared to other games I’ve played. Not a Red dead type good but they did have depth and personalities better than some other games I’ve played

I agree that it sucks to lose the company but I have a feeling the people who really made the games you liked had been long gone it's been a decade since saints row 4 I'm sure pretty much everyone had already moved on
Love seeing everyone collectively forget that before the Saints Row reboot Volition made Agents of Mayhem. You know a game was bad when no one remembers it ever existing.
as a saints row fan for years, let me tell you, we lost nothing with the death of volition. they had three strikes. saints row 3, saints row 4 and saints row 2022. in my eyes, they’re reaping what they sewed.

The biggest problem is that all these new games made for new players ignore old ones, and then focus on money, if it paid good, then company ignores it and says do it again I want money, if it sucks, its players fault , like HOW DARE YOU NOT LIKE THIS NEW GAME,IT HAS EVERYTHING YOU ASKED FROM, and yet nothing we asked for

It had to be done unfortunately, with the bs that volition released recently they confirmed that it became not even a shadow of their former self but just a parasite that wanted to cling onto the love of the fans for a very fun franchise, hopefully the rights of Saints Row go into better hands

I remember how i thought out how this new saints row was gonna be where SR4 was gonna be all a dream snd you were gonna wake up in Steelport again and there was gonna be like 3 gangs, one was gonna he a mix of Saints Row 1 & 2 gangs while there was gonna be a futuristic gang aswell as some random gang that you could side with or also destroy
I blame deep silver, I feel like the game could've had a chance to be decent if they had delayed it more, I mean it would still be lame and the story would belong in the portapotty but atleast the game wouldn't have been as buggy. But deep silver probably had a deadline
Allegedly, deep silver is the reason the reboot sucks in the first place.
I've never played saints row 1 or 2, only 3, 4 and gat out of hell. 3, 4 and gat out of hell are all basically the same game. Extremely similar mechanics, extremely similar missions and a very similar feel. But I still really enjoyed them because they still felt different in their own right. They had good stories and because they have most of the same characters, it feels like you know them and youre actually a part of their gang and their activities. I also subjected myself to the hell of getting the platinum trophy for all 3 games, but I didn't even touch the new one. It looked and felt so empty. None of the original characters were there so it didn't have that brand loyalty. It felt like a completely different game with "saints row" slapped on. Such a shame

Saints row 3 was the only game i played in the series. Was having fun and was going for a completion run until something happened to my ps3 and now it wont launch past the title screen😢

I'm actually pretty sad how little we're discussing Red Faction in all of this. I get it, Saints Row was closer to today's standard, and also related to more of their failure, but... I feel weird if nobody is talking about all the potential they already wasted in Red Faction. Those games were playing with detruction since the PS2 days, and Guerrilla is still on of the only open world games where you can slowly pull out the pieces of every facility. Yet we never got this stuff refined or down to a good measure. Each game felt like it was suddenly changing all of the rules in some way or another, and each with their own spectrum of good/bad stuff that didn't quite feel ironed out as it should. Still it was ambition

the worst part of all of this is that before they announced Saints Row Reboot they had rediscovered the source code for Saints Row 2, and said that they would assign a small team towards working on a bugfixing patch for the PC port of SR2 (which is notorious for being horribly buggy and unplayable on Steam). But that's presumably gone now, so emulation or original hardware is just the next best thing, i guess.

The Thing is they were actually pretty close to finishing a Remaster of the second Game, or at the very least a fix to the PC Port.
They were apparently constantly working with content creators to get it done together until they just sort've.. Stopped.

One sad thing about this is that supposedly Volition wanted to make a game that was like a Saints Row 2.5 but Deep Silver shut it down because they thought nobody would want it (which I honestly might believe because Deep Silver is just a terrible company) and that's how the reboot came to be.
Another sad thing is the fate of the Saints Row 2 PC Patch to actually fix the horrendous port on the PC. It's just disappointing because someone died trying to make it and now their hard work might've just been thrown down the drain because of all of this.

The fact it came out on Epic where they give the devs a shit tonne of money so when it doesn't sell aswell, the money earned makes up for it and it still sold so badly it literally closes the company and causes the parent company to restructure it's entire business model is just hilarious to me.

I've only played the third game and fourth and I LOVED 3. It was so good especially with the co op and just going around the big world but I was in like highschool at the time. 4 was boring ironically with the super powers LOL
I’d highly recommend playing 2. I had only played 3 before, and after playing 2, I realized why so many people found it better than 3

@@Dr.Oofers I am not a dev in any way, but that seems not feasible, especially since the game had limited interactions between players, IIRC. When you want to have that, modding becomes a problem.
Funny you brought up Breaking Bad. That's what I thought they were doing with the story. Where the characters would change throughout it, and by the end of the game they would all resemble the original saints Gat, Pierce and Shaundi.. I was soooo wrong.

I have the same thing where i prefer playing games on steam. I feel like thats because a lot of games on the epic platform have issues. Like how bioshock has missing textures for letters, or how the tomb raider series just has textures halfway off screen that you cant fix
