  • In this video I'll be showing you how you can use the WiFi Inching Relay Delay Switch Low Power Smart Home Remote Control Compatible Module for various projects. I will also be showing how you can hook up this WIFI relay module to your garage so you can open your garage from an app.
    When Purchasing:
    (Older versions of the device had two separate devices for inching and self-lock. Now one device can be set to self locking or inching via application. Set mode to inching mode)
    Buy on Amazon: amzn.to/2WXbIy6
    Buy from Icstation: www.icstation.com/product_info...
    12V Power Supply (Amazon): amzn.to/2Tfh9WU
    If you purchase anything on icstation use promo code 'Lucidics' to get 10% off
    Disclaimer: Any time you work with high voltage it can be extremely dangerous and in the worst case cause death. I am not responsible for any injury. Follow at your own risk.

    I figured out how to turn the Sonoff Basic RFR2 into a dry relay and installed it on my door. Works great. Now, I have the extra benefits of using a 433 MHz remote control to open my garage and retained the voice and app capability of the Basic.

    I've been tinkering with home automation and initially found this video while exploring the application and functionality of Sonoff devices in conjunction with Alexa. I'm now a little embarrassed to admit that I wasn't familiar with the term "inching" as it relates to switching. Although I grasped that concept within the first 45 seconds of your video, I found your presentation and attention to detail engaging to the degree that I watched through to the end. Nicely done and thanks for taking the time to put this together.

    Very well produced instructional video my man! Clear instructions and nice touch with the safety considerations. There is one discrepancy though at 4:30 - you specify the “Normally Connected” terminal but your diagram on-screen has the “NO” terminal.

    • @philipperostin
      @philipperostin 2 года назад +4

      NO stands for Normally Opened, NC for Normally Closed. It is the relay state, not the door state. When your garage door stands still, the relay is on NO. If you want your door to move, it closes for 0.5 seconds in order to tell the Garage Door Motor to start moving.

    If your door does not work when you short the two cables on the motor, buy a cheap remote, pair it with your motor. Open the remote and solder 2 wires to the button contacts on the electronic board, try them first with a naked wire and shirt them to send the remote rf signal. Screw you 2 wires to the wifi relay. Works a charm. (I had a wifi Chamberlain piece of shit which refused any voice commands. With this trick it works). You could optionnaly solder 2 wires to the remote on the wall but it could be a bit more tricky. Oh and btw, this works with any button that needs temporary contact to start something. For example, a computer start by voice :)

    UGH!!! I tried this project with my Genie garage door opener (circa 2008). I managed to get the relay setup correctly in NO and inching mode and then paired with the Ewelink app. I thought everything was working correctly. Then my wife came home and mentioned that the garage door wall switch wasn't working. Hmmm. I took a look and not only does the switch not work, the lighted buttons don't work either. I've tried connecting the relay in parallel to both the garage door terminal screws and also the screws on the back of the wall switch. It seems like on my garage door that the wall switches don't only close the circuit, they also receive power from the garage door opener that light the buttons. FWIW, there are only 2 wires that go from the opener to the wall switch. ANY THOUGHTS??? :-)

    Works for me, but when attaching the wires to my garage port motor, thr button on the wall doesn’t work anymore ... Probably because of the fact that the new wires ‘bridge’ the wires of the button?

    • @mikebaca6312

      Jan Deklerck Since you have wall switch you should have hooked this up to the wall switch and not to the garage door opener. This will correct the problem.

    How do you adjust the time on the Inching function?

    • @TaiViinikka
      @TaiViinikka 2 года назад +1

      Whether you can change the duration of the simulated 'momentary switch' (i.e. adjust the time of inching) depends on the relay module and possibly the software you're using to control it. I have an AC/DC 7-32V 10A relay with wifi, sort of a cousin of the one Lucid Dev used, and I have the same eWeLink app. In the settings for that particular device, it has a section for Inching Settings, which brings up: "Inching" [ON/off] and "Inching duration": (seconds)

    This particular video will only work with older style garage door openers.
    If you have an opener with a simple push button in the garage this will work but if the button in the garage operates the door and operates the light built into the opener independently THIS WILL NOT WORK.
    With newer style openers, the wall switch communicates with a circuit inside the switch which then sends a signal to the opener OR THE LIGHT depending on which button you press.
    In this video the two wires from the WiFi switch simply short two terminals on the garage door opener, if you try this with the newer style openers NOTHING WILL HAPPEN.
    There are other videos that show you how to wire up the WiFi switch to the wall switch, you have to open up the wall switch and solder the wires to the button that operates the opener NOT TO THE OPENER DIRECTLY.
    If this sounds complicated to you, DON'T DO IT.
    It is NOT REALLY COMPLEX, it is actually quite easy, but if you are unsure then you may end up ruining that fancy wall switch module.
    There are NO dangerous voltages involved with this, you may just ruin the wall switch module.
    just search around and you will find instructions on how to do this.
    None of this will affect the normal remote operation from your car.

      There's nothing built in to do that. You could use the Roost garage door sensor to fulfill that role. Or do something else that's do it yourself to work something out.

      reed sensors could be connected to the mcu but you have to have some kind of app to monitor it. I started to use the open source project called "Home Assistant" 3 years ago. And you can do all kinds of IOT project and be able to build a comprehensive home automation and smart home project to it. best part is free and the sensors are cheap as you build and integrate them yourself. But Yeah IOT's, Home automation and smart home, home assistant will get it done for you. Google it. The the community are very helpfull and responsice. Start with DrZzz and Digiblur channel. Imagine that... the VENDOR documentation is incorrect and you are correct. It is the NO and COM connections that work.
    I have not tested what you are saying here about using NO and COM, .........but it is opposite of what the vendor says.
    Their documentation clearly has NC connected to POS on the AC/DC load power and the COM connected on the NEG AC/DC load power when you are using this for GARAGE DOOR OPENER.

    Hello, I follow every step you did. I also installed ewelink with alexa, however I can only open the garage door but when I tell alexa to close the garge door, there is no respond. Any tips?

    • @The231447LucidDevTeam

      So I have not used Alexa with this so I don't know the specifics. But this switch does the exact same thing for opening the garage door as closing the garage door. Because what this module does is temporarily bridge two wires for both opening and closing the door. It does not keep track of it being opened or closed. That said, you may be able to say "Alexa open the garage door" for both opening and closing the garage. Maybe a different configuration could be found to make both commands do the same thing but I'm not sure.

    • @MyDaybyday

      I have one of these installed on my garage. Instead of saying open you have to say on to Alexa. For example if you named it garage you would say..... Alexa garage on and she would reply okay and your garage would open to close your garage you would say garage on and she would say okay and your garage with clothes..

    • @Rubi747HVY
      @Rubi747HVY 5 лет назад

      @@MyDaybyday If you wanted to use an 'open' and 'close' command, It would require two relay modules with all the wires bridged across each module to respond for each command.

      You can create a Scene in the eWelink app to close the Garage door with a more intuitive command. Go to eWelink app and select Scene tab. Click + Add Scene Button. Add a Tap to Run condition, with action to execute Garage On. Suggest you name the Scene something like "Close Garage", and Save the Scene. Once you have created the Scene, ask Alexa to discover. Alexa will pickup all scenes if you have enabled the eWelink Skill in the Alexa app. (I assume you have done this already as it picked up your Garage device). Now you can issue an Alexa command to Close Garage.

      I've been thinking about this a lot I think if you make 2 completely separate setups then have a magnetic Sensor on each one so it only works 1 with the door up and 1 with the door down. Now if you hit the button on your phone put door down it will only work if the door is up. Then you have another button that says put door up and it will only work if the door is down. It's a little confusing but basically the magnetic sensor just breaks the circuit so it wont-work if the doors in one position or the other. See I want to door to automatically shut every night at 10 o'clock if it's up, But not open when it shut by accident.

    COM and NC is not, NORMALLY bridged, there is a relay sitting behind the connector and based on the relay, it can be either normally closed or normally open relay. thus indicating its default state... jesus people, educate yourself before making videos like these.
