@@steveperdueshowtofishingti2172 Awesome man, thanks so much. I can't find these cheaters anywhere online, they are all sold out! I'm gonna have to hope they got them in store somewhere

Black or orangish red eggs scent on orangish red and craw dad scent on black. And yes a no 4 owner steelhead drift hook. My Knot videos shows you the hook package name and size. Landed 30 plus pounders with it..
Just to add though I will use bigger if I'm tossing eggs. Or on a bad presure day. I may use a #2. Same Cheater so it sinks lower when fish sit lower in the water column..barometric presure will make us change a little but always using the small # 12 Cheater. No 4 or 2..

I am working on purchasing a bunch for people on my channel. I started a FB to get a store and forum to. So keep an eye out. Hopefully I will get some black ones for the river season.
Good question and important..it's a slider weight..Canon ball..but I have pencil lead and rubber in case I fish a really fast water spot..because the balls twist the line sometimes...I have a video on how I set up my weight..go look at that and let me know how it all goes
Seems like this would be great in low clear water like we had last year. I remember many times in that clear water that they would see your presentation coming and move out of the way. I think the fact that this is quite small will really help.
Hi, sorry missed your comment, but ya your absolutely right, my under water cams show you how smart these fish really are most fisherman are waiting for young dumb ones to hook themselves! LOL and that's why I catch a lot of hogs! Smart fish are the bigger stronger and better fed and eating ones, That said if its smaller and natural looking and or obscure looking they are most likely to pick and spit instead of turn there head like anyone or anything would do. And, ya last year there was a huge amount of days were I was catching and many were not due to the low hot water, it made the fish stay low to bottom and against the banks in the day and traveled at night in cooler safer temps and protection due to clear low water visibility for predator's like us and the birds. I fish every minute in the dark I could when I saw the trend and got fish every day!! and so did most I helped.
Yes, take slack up, so you can feel the weight, lightly lift and make sure it still bouncing as you set it back down, the weight should skip about every foot or foot a d a half or so and back down..this will get you tuned to feeling rocks bouncing and when a fish bites or it flosses it shakes its head and you set the hook...mend your line is what it's called,..I'm making lots more episodes and each one will address different things. This is one I will go over in almost every episode, most important to tech you the feel of a mouthing or bite vs yanking..
Absolutely, I have caught many..you can also use a no 1 hook, and next size up cheater 10. Float a little higher, chum are big and higher off bottom..but both will work.
So started tying these today. Tied a few how you show and then tried putting an egg loop and sliding the corky on that way (backing out the main line, feeding the corky on and then feeding the end through the loop in the hook). What do you think about that? Seems a bit more secure then tying the line to the shaft
I don't do it that way because the hook is small in a kings mouth, and the shank has the leader exsposed to its teeth, the way I did it doesn't break, and the Knot is hidden on the bottom side of the cheater.. it will work either way for sure, I just like to not lose a big one..good luck man.
WOW! Thanks for sharing! I do good in Puget Sound, Hood Canal & Columbia by bank but still trying to learn Lewis & Cowlitz. Totally different ball game. So just the cheater bead on egg loop before eye and that's it? No other beads or corky on leader? Definitely going to try this next time. 7 ft leader? Well, there's a first for everything. I normally just use 3 feet but if it works. Fish-on!
I'm making more videos explaining how to then tune the 7ft in. Leader for different slots..sometimes I'm using only 40 in. And ya the water speeds and dept make a difference..Cowlitz has a lot of spots you drift 1.5 oz weights..most dont..it's deep and fast in spots..thanks for the feed back..it works well..but also use a slider weight and mend your line so you feel mouthing..good luck.

@@steveperdueshowtofishingti2172 awesome! Also one more question, I use about the same liter lengths around 7”, and corkys as well, would you say this is more about the setup, or technique with mending the line
@@fishinwithmatthew6101 it's really both,,I'm doing some more videos explaining how to tune your set ups..a lost technique, 😑, both flossers and drifters as well as other forms of fishing..tuned set ups wins the every day..I could win the races I did without tuning, fishing is the same,,especially rivers,..get pre ties done with corkies and cheaters, as well as beads..I keep them at 12m. So it's miniscule to a fish and won't spook or move when it feels or sees the line or bait..small like a fly and scent entice a strike, each one of the floats, cheaters, corkies, and beads float at different levels, and the leaderine width as well, so 10, if your experienceed at playing a fish, 12, 15 and 20 pound lines both mono and Floral all float your gear at different hights,,pr give different presentations levels of your bait a d your flossing line...if your line sinks to low you are only hoping for a bite,,go to a light line to float higher,,and a switch hook and Cheater or floats,,meaning beats, cookies, cheaters, to #1 hooks and no12 floats, and to a #4 hook and #12 floats, I have these all pre tied, so when your starts fishing if they are rolling, and your not getting them with a standard, the most efficient on a normal day which Is a no4 hook and 12 Cheater, then start changing one thing at a time, until you hit fish..
Ya, unfortunately the black is sold out for a while, you can use reddish orangish ,size 12, still colors and use salmon egg smelly jelly and yes I use a 12 Corkey if i'm out of 12 cheaters...try Sportco in Fife, they just wont have black till October or so. Hello Steve, can’t you just shove a toothpick onto small corky above the eyes of the hook to prevent the slidin. awesome video and thank you for sharing!
Yes,,I used to Do that in the 90s, I like the new way, because the Cheater even tooth picked is the leading edge,,and can bend inward blocking the hook gap on a no 4 hook. Which it floats the hook, ,so can't change That, instead to up odds it's fixed to the back of the hook...it also floats the hook at a totaly different angle than in top.
Also it makes it all a little smaller,, less conspicuous,,more likely to ensure a strike or floss action. Won't spook and move away as fast,,as it's flossing to it..
I gotta give your way a try. Can you make a upclosed vid of how to tie the cheater onto the #1 hook, please. Again, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge amongst us anglers! Tight lines!!!
Hello Steve! This is the most useful tutorial video ever! Just subscribed. I try to find these black cheaters, can't find them anywhere... Only size 10 and wait about a week for delivery. Where do you buy them?
That's a garentee! There are a bunch of things I have tested and proven to be really effective, ups the odds...you ever yank your fish down River?. They tire them selfs out three times as fast, running up river, and pulling you up River..I will post videos of this too..if you want to plan a trip out with me, let me know, these subscriber outings will give you free knowledge and subscribers a reason to watch as our community grows and we get to know each other..
You don't pay attention well.lol. watch other videos you will learn..more..onlyba seriously challenged person would believe that because a leader is 7ft or 3 ft that a fish won't strike a fly....my hook is a # 4 cheater is a 12...we use eggs in the loop and scent on the fly looking cheater..so we are upping our odds by doing both..and if it ups our odds to catch more fish then thta what do...Catch more fish! .anybody my fish come back where they strick at it...youbcantbpossible beive fish only strike at a bait that Is in a short leader...prety unreal stupid really and why you won't catch more fish.. We tune our leaders from 2 to 7.5 ft for a reason..notb11 ft or 10.9.8. But 7 to 2.0 ft..depending on the depth speed of water on barometric presure days you adjust your leader and on sections of rivers with a narrow travel lane long leader doesn't catch more..7.5ft is the best start point..so again demonstrate how to tune your gear for me.please... atch more fish..make a RUclips channel..something besides just babbling to fit in...it does you no good..you won't learn how to tune your gear..see my egg videos I use same set up with eggs...video proved there ot flossed..so we're is your information coming from? Who taught your that fish won't hit a bait that's on a long leader?? I'm curious to continue arguments it's how I learn more..and people can read this to see its important to Use multiple methods to be a universal fisherman..you want a bobber 😂?

@@steveperdueshowtofishingti2172 awesome! Also one more question, I use about the same liter lengths around 7”, and corkys as well, would you say this is more about the setup, or technique with mending the line
I will be at soccer feilds on Wed morning,.
I subbed because you seem like a legend in the fishing community
Thanks, I always wishing I was fishin too..
@@steveperdueshowtofishingti2172 people probably wishin I was postin haha
I just found this vid and will be trying this method on my home river down here in OR this weekend…..
Nice, what river you hitting.
That will be on the sandy…. I already drift fish but with yarn and corkie never seen anyone drift this type of setup that you show….
@@miguele4564was it effective on the sandy?
I cant find them cheater. Can I use the corky and tie like this? What size of corky should I use? Thanks
Ya, unfortunately the black is sold out for a while, you can use reddish orangish ,size 12, still colors and use salmon egg smelly jelly and yes I use a 12 Corkey if i'm out of 12 cheaters...try Sportco in Fife, they just wont have black till October or so. I will be giving out some black ones in some give aways so make sure your subscribed to get notified of videos..Good luck man hope this helps you catch more fish! And let me know how you do, post pics on our new Facebook page forum North West Rippin Keepers! I have just made it but should be more active soon, you can book trips too.

Gonna try this! Subbed!
Thanks for the sub!
Hey Steve, I've been going to the Green River for the past few years to try to catch salmon. I've caught 1 Coho so far on a jig and worm. No luck this season. I'm going to try your set up next time I go out! Just one question. I'll run the sliding weight above a swivel and then the 7.5 ft leader with hook and cheater below that? Thanks for all the great info!
Yes,,you got it,,and the rain should bring in those coho..good luck..
@@steveperdueshowtofishingti2172 Thanks, I appreciate it! :) I actually went out to the Green this morning and no luck. The water was moving very slow. Hard to get the weight to move with the river. What's the lowest weight you'd reccomend running?
@@caseygames6131 you could use a split shot, we used run a split shot and worm behind rock for steelhead..depends on the water speed depth to..sound like bobber water or jigging
I'm going to try this out thanks for the video :)
Yes sir! Goodluck

What length leader are you using for the nisqually?

@@steveperdueshowtofishingti2172 thank you Sr! I’ll look forward to it , Chester color wise what would you recommend for coho and chinook .
@@yyoohh I use black, or a neutral big color or egg color, so if I'm in Clearwater I use reddish with egg scents, and if i use a black Cheater set up I use craw daddy smell, they will mouth either one. @@steveperdueshowtofishingti2172 thank you ! Went to store and got everything today just as you instructed on this video . Unfortunately they had only orange .
Hi Steve...I've watching this video again and again...try to set up like your way...I brought the Beau Mac Cheater at Fishermans...but when I tried to twist the cheater like yours...I do not see or hear any snaps like u did in this video....is that not the right cheater??..or does it make a difference when it snap so the hook will position right or something ..what is that snap u said important about?...please advise...thanks much Steve...I'm now to Salmon fishing...wanted to catch one...never did....please help out...please advise....thanks Ali
Hi, I made a video about that...I will post soon..the hooks come with a different angle eye openening....if it's straight up, with no angle..it's won't sit strait,,even of you try to snap and bend the line...are you following. MY channel?? You will get notifies as soon as a video goes up...I will try and put up the Knot videos about this today..
Still lost...I did order more cheater...deliver soon...I'll try again...those hooks I bought..I realize they are not like yours....i did bought the Beau Mac Cheater brand...at Fishermans sports and marine...and some on Amazon....I might check out at the site u recommend...Auburn...hopefully I can get the right tackles...out there catch some fish...so exciting to try your methods....thanks for getting back...please let me know if anything I need to get right here...thanks much Steve
I bought #4 hook...gamakatsu Octobus hooks...cheater size 10 and 12 weights...
I've subscribed to your RUclips channel...looking forward to your upload video today...thanks
@@kska1520 ok thats why maybe, octopus hooks different from,,side drift steelhead hooks,,is the hole at the top of the hook angled?
@@paulojimenez1437 yes..i made one, I will post it this weekend..Thanks,,good luck
What size weight do you use above your 7.5”leader, sir?
Where can you but that style of corky (cheater) I can't find em
Sportco is one place.
Hello Steve! This is the most useful tutorial video ever! Just subscribed. I try to find these black cheaters, can't find them anywhere... Only size 10 and wait about a week for delivery. Where do you buy them?
Sportco or auburn sports marine..
Thank you, fun to see results..everyone is really hooking up..about to make FB page for followers to post pics and fish together
@@steveperdueshowtofishingti2172 Thank you! Purchased yesterday at Auburn Marine! At SportCo they don't have them.
Increases hookups Forsure.
You don't side drift from shore you side drift from a boat. It's just drift fishing from shore.
where do you get your cheater? they seem to be hard to come by
Auburn sports marine, sport co..
And ya, stock up in the off season. Word is spreading fast during the season..
He's fully demonstrating that's its an involuntary attractant. Or you could just use something that they will strike.
I'm curious to continue arguments it's how I learn more..and people can read this to see its important to
Use multiple methods to be a universal fisherman..you want a bobber 😂?
