- Katie and I have spent a lifetime balancing expensive hobbies and marriage. Really it's my expensive hobbies and her tolerating my nonsense. Am I the only one that has put myself in this crazy situation?

Hi friends! Thank you so very much for all of the kind comments. Katie and I have been traveling so she’s been reading the comments out loud and as usual, we are so humbled by your kind response. Thank you all so very much.
Best line of the video: “Can I Buy a 400mm 2.8”. Some great stuff wholesome to share Josh, love the “not-marriage” marriage advice 🙌🏻
Ditto on the "can I buy a 400mm 2.8". What a way to sneak it in there!!!
The BEST moment of the video. I laughed out loud. Josh, my wife has a saying that she throws at me when I'm agonizing about purchases. She recently dropped it on me when I was debating 50mm 1.2 or 1.8 Z lenses. "Go big or go home" is what she says. The 1.2 is on the way. And looking at that 400mm 2.8, there's nothing bigger that would look better on that Z9.
Great video!
Thanks brother, we’re just figuring it out as we go along!
No Jeremy, the best line was “what?”….
You "can". But the correct word is "may".
Josh, love that this post is incidentally about photography and principally about love.
Thank you, Josh AND Katie.
This was priceless Josh! Katie ROCKS!!! " I LOVE YOU Katie....Can I buy a new 400mm |2.8...Whuuuuuut!?
Isn’t she something! 🤣
“Can I Buy a 400mm 2.8”..... Whattt??? Priceless reaction (and video.)
"When a man loves a woman". Lovely video, great testimony of love. Thanks for sharing.
Our pleasure!
wonderful as always . the last line rocks
😀 thank you so much
One of the best videos I've ever seen! Thanks.
Wow!! Thank you,
Love it... the end is amazing hahahaha !
😆
Your videos are therapeutic to me.... Beautiful narration of your lovely relationship and I hope everyone find a perfect parter.
What? 🤣🤣🤣 Thats hilarious. I hope she said yes 😆
She hasn’t said no. 😆
Great video from start to finish. Well played at the end,
Glad you enjoyed it
The end was gold.
😀
That was so funny. Oh how me and the love of my life chuckled heartily 😂😂😂
Amazing video! I loved this one as I have all of them!
I sure appreciate it brother. Thank you
Nice message Josh. My incredible wife and I have been married for 42 years now. I've been doing photography for a little over 50 years. My wife is simply a saint and tolerates, encourages and supports my photography habit. While she isn't into some of the trips I take, she is always supportive of my desires. Can't ask for anything better, well... except for our 2 wonderful children and 5 grandchildren. Can't imagine life without all of them!
That is awesome! Inspiring stuff Keith.
Awesome video. And the last part about the lens was funny 😅
Thank you so much 😀
Lovely soulful description of what your partner means to your life!🙏🏾 Love that classic ending where you squeezed in that purchase question after declaring your love for her!😂😂😂😂
your videos have inspired me to do my 1st subscribe, they blow me away every time i watch them, thanks for sharing your world of nature, your relaxed manor and lovely words give me hope for my own photography.
Well you were very kind!. Thank you so much.
27 years here, too, and I don’t know what I would do without my husband’s eye and companionship on this journey. Again, you seem to convey the thoughts and feelings I have as a photographer, and I appreciate that. Thank you - and the ending was priceless! Ha!
😁 thank you Jen. Congrats on 27 years.
It really is like watching a mirror image of my wife and I. Same, "I bought her a camera to get her involved..." to "doesn't use the camera so I suggest selling it..." Big smiles when you slipped in the, "how about that 400mm f/2.8?". Keep up the great message Josh, it motivates me in ways no review-websites ever could.
Wishing you both another 27 years of togetherness...lovely couple
Thank you so much 😊
Josh, your video made me laugh out loud and cry! Congratulations to you and Katie! You both understand what is really important. I wish you both many years of enjoying life together!
🙂 thank you so much Patricia.
I've been married to MY Katie (yes she's actually a Katie) for 14 years, and she's my eagle-finder/whisperer. As a photographer, we all have a little bit of neurosis when it comes to gear and self-improvement...as you know, it's a blessing to have a partner that can appreciate your obsession and share some of those experiences with you. Very cute video, keep owl-spotting together! As for the 400/2.8...I've been in this game long enough to know not to even bring it up =)
😀 wise man.
My wife, Ginger, and I will celebrate our 60 year anniversary this May and I don't even want to think about how much money I have spent on photography and yet she still says if I really need that new, shiny piece of equipment, it is OK with her. Yes, I know I am extremely blessed.
Wow!!!! 60! Awesome. 😃
Owl whisperer.
What? 😆
Another great video. I can appreciate having a great wife and best friend to share life with. Your music is always vey fitting for your videos. That closing made me laugh out loud. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Thank you very much!
Great Video , Great shots , Great couple you and Katie , Great final question also 😄😄 and a Great story !
Ronny
You 400 f/2.8 WHAT! nice one Katie ha ha ha ..... Great video as always stay safe both of you....
I have decided that Katie needs to have her own episode. You two are amazing and congrats on 27yrs. Nicole and I just passed 24. Loved the video.
Congrats on 24! Being that I have soooo much more experience you’re welcome to come to me for advice anytime! 😂 When are we going out to dinner?
@@BayouJosh Let's do it!
Yes, definitely more Katie 😁
Lovely complicity you have there, and a great tribute to her. I like the place she takes in your videos, and it seems that owls really do love her!
You are such a wonderful couple to watch! Definitely Katie add a different charm to your videos 🙂. May this year bring more and more birds and more of Katie's innocent reactions into your stories.
And a message to Katie, even we all viewers of this channel love you both!
As always, great pictures 👍
Thank you so much! Same to you.
My wife Diane and i have been married 27 years, and she is by far my favorite birding partner, it's a hobby that we both have really enjoyed together. Your very lucky to have someone like your Katie...LOVE the ending of this video, tried to sneak in that new lens !!
😃 thank you Todd. And yes. Katie is my favorite birding partner too.
I loved the start of this video. My wife and I have been married over 30 years and I too feel I love her more today than the day we met....who knew that could happen!
Loved the ending and her reaction was priceless...
Best video yet. More Katie, please! PS Did she say yes?
Thank you. She didn’t say no. 😀
What a wonderful supporter you have! Those great grey owls are amazing!
Teamwork makes the dream work. Another great video, Josh.
I love the images, both mental and photographic and, of course, the ending:)
Thank you Bruce. 😁
0:14 that looks like a high car ?
9:58 awnser to your question , "what ?" (puzzled look included)
Love your sense of humor Josh. good video
The truck looks high because I’m 5 ft. But yes I struggle climbing up in that thing!
@@buttonlover86 you two look like wonderfull honest people.
Hahahaha, Josh. You are killing it with your videos. That Viltrox part is just how I think reviews should be, crisp and to the point. The best part though was the very end: „Can I buy a 400mm 2.8?“ 😂😂😂
Such a great video! I also have the good fortune of going on my nature photo outings with my wife and these moments are precious!
What a beautiful tribute to your wife and marriage!! I loved the owl fly by. My husband and I are almost 29 years married and we bird and enjoy photography. What you said about the memories the photo give us is certainly true.
thank you Jen. It's a beautiful Hobby!
An owl day is a good day. You and Katie sound a lot like Leslie and I. If things go as planned, this November will be 40 years we've been married and we spend most of our time out on wildlife and nature photography adventures. I'm just now starting to video and really am more of a stills shooter. Video editing and storytelling is still a bit of a mystery to me. I like your videos and appreciate what is involved in putting one together and I like your relationship. It is refreshing these days. thank you. By the way, Leslie loved the owl flying behind Katie.
Thank you Jeff and Leslie. 40 years!!! Awesome.
Man, that last question just killed me: "Can I buy a 400mm 2.8?" Brilliant! Well played sir LOL
😁 thank you my friend.
The stories continue to be awesome. Really enjoyed this one 👍🏻 Owls a plenty 🦉! That flyby photobomb was so cool during the Katie interview…!!
Owls love Katie.
This is what it's all about! Such an awesome video, featuring so many beautiful aspects of photography and relationships...and the relationship between the two. Beautiful pics and video, Josh!
Thank you my friend.
That was great Josh, your really lucky to have Katie. My wife has put up with me for 29 years now. I was somehow able to convince her to quit our jobs and move to the Caribbean for my pictures. Whatever I said back then worked and we've been here now over 20-years. What a ride, I'd do it all again given the chance. "Like a Whooping Crane, who has one wife for all its life and if she dies he'll do the same." REKeen
Lucky! Katie is hoping I’d quit my job and move us to the Caribbean 😆
Love all the videos and the story telling is great and a joy to watch/listen to. It has finally got me off my ass and to film my outings as I made my 1st one this week. It is way more work than just walking around looking for something to photograph! Thanks you for that encouragement. Going out again in a few days again. It was more fun than I thought.
It’s definitely a more engaging experience. 😃
Another great video.
I just want to look at the things and my wife's answer, just buy only one part.
Greetings to your wife.
Loved This 😃👍 , Laughing at the Ending 🤣🤣
I like how you ended this video, I couldn't stop laughing, I guess as they say timing is everything cause I here you have the 400 2.8 w/TC on order. Congrats! I got a surprise text from my camera shop yesterday and I should have my Z9 by the end of next week along with the 100-400 with a few items of course, back ordered. If I were to get the 400, I would have to go back to work (retired).
Awesome! congrats. i got the same call from my camera shop. finally picked it up yesterday. 🙂
So true about the balance with the wife, first wife didn't get my passion for aviation photography even through she was a "base brat" born on Hahn AFB, Germany. My current wife is my biggest fan, supported me turning my passion (photography) into a side business (Sports Photography) where I've had to purchase thousands of dollars in gear. D5, D500, Sigma 150-600S just the latest purchases. Planned my 50th BD to head to Nellis AFB and a week of shooting jets. I keep supporting her to start her own business where she takes care of elderly people in their homes and is amazing at it. Great video
it is so important to encourage and inspire one another. If you can't do that with your spouse, who can you do it with?
thank you so much. 🙂
Fantastic, once again simply fantastic!!!!!
Thank you so much Stanley
Love the episode , great seeing Katie hope to see more with the both of you !
I love her reaction at the end of the video. Thanks Katie and Josh, awesome video as usual.
😁
@@BayouJosh that's exactly what my Mrs react me when I ask for more new gear.
Love your video's especially the ones with a low perspective which you always nail.. nice try on that 400mm attempt..lol
I try 😆
GREAT JOB Katie....You have done very well to mold and shape Josh into who he is today!!! I know you are very proud of the channel that you have created....and we really, really appreciate it!! Oh, and just say "Yes" to the 400mm 2.8....he's never going to stop talkin' about it until you do!
Wow! You nailed it. He usually mentions these things to me once and then the item appears shortly after. I just shake my head, if I even notice.
@@buttonlover86 Well, if you want to make him work for it....make him wait for the 800mm PF...longer reach, without a TC, but slower, at 6.3....but you can spend the extra $9K cost difference on whatever your heart desires....since you're actually in charge!!
Great video Josh! Keep it up. Love the owls!
Beautiful and very similar to my relationship with my wife after 22 years of marriage. We both have a love of photography and enjoy nothing more than spending this time together working as a team and sharing our experiences. Yes photography is expensive but the happiness it brings is priceless so worth every penny.
Can I have a 400 2.8 😂 😂👍
Well said my friend! By the way, she hasn’t said no about the lens.
@@BayouJosh I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you 🤞👍😃
Thanks for sharing another wonderful video, I am after the snow owl here in Montreal, keep up with the awesome content 😁👍
You two are awesome. My wife would have given me the same look had I asked for a 400 2.8, great episode, Josh.
Wow, I hope I'll find a partner like that one day! Wish you two all the best! And to Katie... The answer to the last question is "yes!" ;) XD
Love this story about you and your beautiful wife. Great video. And awsome photos.
Btw that ending 📸😁👍
Thank you so much Julius
I am sad today. Yesterday I gave in to Nikon’s temptations, traded in my dslr’s and most of my lenses, and now am waiting for the Z9 to appear in my camera bag. So much for staying true to the old habits. Time to move ahead with bird photography and learn all the settings on the new camera.
Don't be sad. Fun times. New gear typically reinvigorates me. You are going to love it. I have mine and I'm like a kid with a new toy! Congrats.
I just found your channel, so I’m playing catch-up on them. They’re great! Best I’ve come across. I’m 61, divorced, live alone and I needed something to get me outside more, which I love, so I decided to take up nature photography. I grew up in the Ozarks, on horseback every day, fishing n hunting or just being. So I really dig your videos, reflections n all.
But what I wanted to say about this one was…brag away buddy. Do it. Every day. I think it’s great that you and your wife are so happy just doing what you do. And you are extremely lucky…both of you. If my husband enjoyed life like you do maybe I wouldn’t be divorced.
I just think it’s great and I find your photos and videos beautiful, insightful and they make me smile.
Not sure why, but I got really emotional in the last part of the vid. This was beautiful. I never miss a vid!
Thank you so much Christopher. wonderful.
Great video! 47 years here but 50 years together.....I tell her "it could have been boats" like when we first met (I had 5 at the time) lol
Oh wow! 47!!! Goals.
Great video and great partner! I am happy for both and that you get to share it. Definitely need that Z 400 f2.8 to go on your Z9. That will be an Amazing combo. Can’t wait.
Thank you so much 😊
Had me smiling the whole time. Great video.
Most enjoyable video! I met and fell in love with a woman 46 years ago. Her name is Kathryn. During the 3rd time that we spent together, she was VERY clear that I was NOT to call her Katie or Kate (as in Shakespeare). It had to be Kathryn. Discussion over. Marriage is very cool. I feel lucky to have a life partner that supports me as much as I support her. You hit the nail on the head, Josh! Partners are the way to go! That said, I just wish that she could cook better......(I'm the main cook and I like to cook, too). Wait......that would mean that I'd have to the dishes more often..........NEVER MIND! 😁
If my name was Kathryn I’d want to be called that too. I was named Katie.😊 Neither one of us cooks very much.
@@buttonlover86 Hello Katie! I have known many Katies in my time. It is a nice name! Cooking is a creative and a stress-relief outlet for me. I even have taste dreams that are so intense that I can wake up and create it. Don't worry, everyone thinks that is weird (me, too)!
Love your videos Josh, I think you just described my relationship with my wife, Maggie, perfectly. We've been married for 26 years and been together for over 30 years, we both love nature & wildlife and I spend way too much money on camera gear & printers. Like you, if we haven't both seen it then it needs to be seen again.
In the past year I bought a Canon R5, a Canon 4100 44" printer & had to replace my crashed Mavic 2 Pro so I think I'm done buying stuff for quite a while 😱
Keep up the good work and best wishes from Western Australia 👍
Congrats on the many years with your Maggie. 😊 there’s always another piece of gear right?
Beautiful video. What you two have together is very special. God bless you both.
“I love you”
“I love you, too.”
“Can I buy a 400mm f2.8?”
“WHAT?!”
Hahahaha needed that laugh this morning.
☺️
March will be 15 years for us. It's a work in progress lol but gets better. Especially with kids. Great shots josh and great looking 3rd party lens. As far as the 400 2.8. .....
Maybe in the after life haha.
You're both very lucky. Still loving your videos 👍🏻
Excellent video, and very much appreciated. I have a very similar situation with my bride of 45, and by grace of God getting ready to start a new adventure next week when we take a trip from California back to the home in West Virginia along with our BlueTick coon hound. The last part I know well most recently when I mentioned the new Canon R3 and she gave me the what also, but I said I was kidding I will wait until the R1 comes out!!!!
Beautiful video. Loved the low shots on the water. I struggle with those because of neck pain - but pain is sometimes worth it. We celebrate 40 years of marriage this month & it's a worthy subject with photography. You say the world is beautiful. Some see it differently, because of the angle they see things (location/world events). But the world becomes more beautiful when people like yourselves work at it. I think your wife would appreciate Jeroen Kloppenburg channel on photography & tracking. Watched a few of your videos now & notice that USA prices are better than UK.
I think most photography is a pain in the neck. 😆 thank you Steve.
I love how you and Katie are making most of your videos together now. My hubby and I have a photography YT channel together and I am always on the lookout for other couples too. She has an amazing eye for the birds!
She’s pretty amazing!
My wife and I enjoy watching you're videos. She too enjoys watching birds and will tag along with me quite often. I'll have to watch with her again tonight. She'll love the ending of this video.
Katie is the best! I cut out about 20 minutes of her explaining what the day was about. She went into very specific details! 😆
Great job as always Josh!!
Thank you Ryan.
Thanks Josh, and the ending was a hoot (apologies for the pun).
I’m lucky that my wife also enthuses with sharing my captures so …
z 400mm/f2.8 TC coming in the next couple of weeks.
Hey mate, although you sounded like a pastor for this video, I must admit that this 'sermon' is an impactful one which really made me reflect on my own marriage with my wife in relation to how much money I had spent on my photography hobby that absolutely does not benefit her in any sense. I had always wished that she could hang out with me during birding though this day has not materialised yet. This blend of narrating about your life and your photography is really more interesting than all the 'gear talk' out there. Alas, congratulations to both Katie and yourself! 🥰
Thank you so much.
Very beautiful video..
Thank you so much 🙂
1-Your wife is awesome. 2-Nice job. 3-I made my wife watch this with me in the hopes that she'll wake up early enough one morning to go out with me! And 4-best ending of a RUclips video I've ever seen!
😀 thank you Shane. I hope you were able to sway your wife.
You made only one mistake in this video…asking if you could buy a 400mm 2.8. 🤣 The last line of the video should’ve been, “I love you…and I apologize, I bought the 400mm 2.8”. Your comedic timing or editing is just perfect. Had a really good laugh with that one and I expect many watching are wondering how to get that lens in their bag. Katie, the GGO whisperer. Seriously, congrats to you both and your kids are very lucky.
😁 good advice Marcus.
Great video. I'm too far south here in Utah to see a Great Gray Owl. This makes me want to take a road trip. You make it look so easy!
It really is kind of unfair. They’re putting on quite a show. 😃
Dude, so good. I love the ending. Haha! And I agree. If my wife and kids weren’t with me to experience it, it just isn’t the same.
Right! It’s like it didn’t even happen. Thank you so much Jesse.
Amazing!
Never seen this kind of lens review before and Katie identified a plain with no worries ... I've been married for 15 years and I got you buddy it's nice to have someone with on your journey photography or in life ... wish you all the best guys ... happy birding, happy wife and happy life 🤞
😀
Another great video, Josh, you just keep turning them out!! I have a long way to go before I reach this level - let alone, following!!! However, I am enjoying the first steps along the way.
Thanks so much Brian. Watch my first few videos and you’ll feel real good about your progress. 😆
Josh, you are such a Blessed guy.
I can relate to everything you said in your video and a great thanks to reminded me of it.
Great video once again! Thanks!
Thank you 😊
I really love the way you talk about her.
I love her like crazy. 🥰
Great video! My better half and I are still trying to find our first owl but the trying is the best part. BTW I had to work on it awhile but she said a reluctant ok to the 400 2.8. I am now hesitant to broach the topic of a 600 4.
Lovely
Just beautiful man, all the best to you both
Great video as always Josh, I love the message! Is Great when the family is with you in this adventures!
