The one thing I'll give the Offspring, more specifically Dexter, is that of all the SoCall punk lables Nitro took the biggest commercial risks. Putting out a Willhelm Scream album that everyone predicted to be a failure, as the lable was going broke, and calling it "Career Suicide" was also surprisingly ballsy.
Why do so many people have a crippling fear of being a part of the majority when it comes to music??? So many of these Mid-bands are good artists, but because they’re popular people try to separate themselves from them any chance they get because they want to be seen as unique and cultured! Like what you like man. “Being Mid is worse than being bad” is a wild statement! 😂
Because Coheed isnt Mid, its legendary status music and will one day be remembered as such. Panic at the Disco is mid, Blink182 is mid, most punk is most music artists and bands, do not stand the test of time by Coheed and Cambria has and stll is.
coheed's first 4 albulms are amazing, us fans are kinda nerdy lol. most of the band are cool guys. claudio seems like the kind of guy everyone would want to invite to go wine tasting or for a barbaque.

It is subjective so there is no wrong answer here. But I would personally rank Megadeth a lot higher. They haven't had the success of Metallica (and I tend to prefer Metallica's early thrash sound to Megadeth's) but they were doing very interesting things and made some truly great albums. I am not as familiar with their later catalogue but everything from Killing is my Business to Rust in Peace is great. I would put up Rust in Peace as the greatest metal album of all time. Peace Sells is a killer record. So Far So Good So What is rough in patches but has some amazing entries like Mary Jane. Looking Down the Cross on their debut is an amazing, amazing metal song that truly does things a little different

I almost got into a fight at a machine head concert once. The opening band was Arch Enemy and my friends and I went to that show just for Arch Enemy. During Arch Enemy’s set some people started shout-chanting “Machinehead.” I turned around and flipped those people off. One of them stormed over to me to try to fight me but I guess security saw them and stopped them from coming over to start a fight with me and kicked them out of the show.
I just started watching this and the first band up is Tool. Finn coming right out of the gate throwing haymakers at his own audience. This and the reactions in the comments are the content I come here for. 10/10
That's Hulk Hogan. Macho man was "Oh YEAHHHHHH!". Get your 1980s wrestling promos right. This is not acceptable. Also, make sure you listen to Macho Man Randy Savage's rap album today. Be a man is a hilarious diss track. Even funnier than B.o.B. dissing Neil Degrasse Tyson for not being a flat earther.
Good video. The Offspring and Papa Roach are two of my favorite bands and the more I see music critics and RUclipsrs justifiably (!) sh*t on them since I totally get their cringyness, the more I feel the need to listen to them again ;-) is that a healthy reaction?
Hi Finn, here to say I'm a diehard Machine Head fan. I wear a Machine Head jacket just about every day and consistently listen to their albums often. Actually just took my son to his first concert a few weeks ago and it was one that Machine Head headlined with Fear Factory and Orbit Culture. And while I'm a huge fan of the band era that featured Robb Flynn, Phil Demmel, Adam Duce and Dave McClain, the most recent album (Of Kingdom and Crown) was a surprisingly triumphant release. I highly recommend it to anyone who thinks Robb lost it with the Catharsis album.
When I think "mid" I think of a ton of those early post-grunge bands like Collective Soul, Mudhoney, Silverchair, Candlebox, Live, etc. Like, are they actively bad? I don't think so, and a few have a couple good songs, but they all sound the same.
If Collective Soul are not actively bad, it means they broke up. The World I Know is the only real song I ever heard from those hacks. Every other song in their mediocre catalogue shares two features: 1) a riff which steps back for two measures to let the lead singer (I think his name is Ed Roland) sing a sparse melody line and steps back in again (a blus formula) and 2) a really poorly conceived and unmemorable solo stitched awkwardly and obligatorily into the middle of the song. Collective Soul isn't mid. They are bad.
@@dusty987 Silverchair has a couple bangers, and they wrote their best song when they were like 16, which is pretty impressive. On the whole, though? ... eh. Take 'em or leave 'em, in my opinion.

Totally agree that elder Emos and theater kids fit the Panic At The Disco demographic. I don’t like their newer stuff, but when they first came out I was obsessed with their first two albums and I fit this description to a tee. Thanks Finn for the laughs
Can't wait to see the Reddit review of this video! I'm sure it's gonna be just as comedic and light hearted as this video is! On the topic of this video, I'll say that imo, when I think mid bands I think Foghat or Bad Company. They easily fit into the bottom right section, as most of their remaining fans are still pumping out the same blues scales at Guitar Center and telling me Slash is peak musicianship.
I was waiting for Alexisonfire (Finn’s mentioned he thinks they’re mid). I am of course one of the people who thinks they’re exemplary of perfect 2000s post-hardcore but was curious to hear his input on his disliking of them lol
I like Machine Head. Saw them this past February and they kicked ass 🤘! “The Blackening” is one of the best metal albums of the 2000’s (in my opinion) and it still holds that title for me.
For me TOOL was always either hated or loved, never mid. You listen to Schism and say: That’s some life changing sh*t or just sh*t Never like: Yeah - that song is kinda …ok
People outright hating them is just to counter the enthusiasm of the uber fan who thinks they can do no wrong. Most people who "hate" them will probably admit that the band is technically competent but that they are boring, formulaic and not their taste. To me they are definitely mid. I would never go out of my way to listen to them but wouldn't complain if they are on the radio or someone else plays them.
I dont know how Blink 182 isnt on this list. They're probably the most painfully mediocre band I've ever heard in my life. Every single song sounds the same, both vocalists are god awful, the guitar and bass are literally first year music student worthy....the only even remotely talented musician is Travis Barker whose cringe af and really built a career from playing really fast. Hes like a less technical Joey Jordison. Blink 182 is just an edgier, more immature version of weezer.
Agreed. Blink is objectively simple music (similar sounding song melodies on repeat) and poor vocals. Sounds good upon first listen - gets old fast because there’s nothing of substance there.
I’ve seen Machine Head live once and got to meet them too. They do have their mid moments but I wouldn’t call Burn My Eyes, The Blackening, or Unto The Locust mid.
I had a college friend that got a Machine Head tattoo back in the late 90s. I lost contact with him over 20 years ago, but I sometimes wonder how much he regrets that decision.
As much as I love Finn, there would definitely be a fight for who's going on the "other van" if they're was a big road trip. His van would be quite AF "no catchy sing-a-long songs, what are we in a Subaru commercial"... 🦗🦗🦗 Other Van: " 🎶 🎶 Oh, whoa, oh I got a love that keeps me waitin' Oh, whoa, oh 🎶 🎶 " - everybody.
I know a lot of people who love Machine Head. It's just that they can't defend their whole discography, it ranges from terrible to brilliant. BURN MY EYES and THE BLACKENING are masterpieces.
for some reason i think that Megadeth is more like speed metal with bad vocals rather than all out thrash, they're not particularly fast when compared to their contemporaries but made that up with more big brain stuff like shred guitars and more intricate riffing, although the "big brain" part is also outshined by bands like Voivod, Coroner, Watchtower, and what have you.
The thing with tool is you kinda gotta let em grow on you I used to think they were mid asf but the more you really listen to them and they’re music the more realize it kicks ass
Say what you want about All Time Low, but Alex Gaskarth is a phenomenal songwriter. Not only for All Time Low, but he wrote songs for 5SOS, Simple Plan, and State Champs. Put Up, So Wrong, Nothing Personal, and Don’t Panic are all 10/10 albums. Nobody admits to liking All Time Low just like nobody admits to liking any other neon pop punk band. They were scene, but unpopular with scene kids because they didn’t have screams. They fit into the category sometimes with Sleeping with Sirens and Pierce the Veil because they were more “girl” oriented than the other bands at the time
The fact that they are still around and getting decent streaming numbers, and most other 2000's neon pop-punk bands flamed out and had to go get regular jobs speaks volumes. Same goes for The Maine. They just wrote better songs than their contemporaries. ATL has been my favorite band for 14 years, so I'm a tad biased, but I don't think it's fair to say "no one cares about them anymore". I know these videos are all in good fun, so I'm not triggered over this or anything, just saying.
When I seen the title I thought Finn "wanted all the smoke" and seems like he does. I saw Machine Head I want to say back in 99 when their album The Burning Red came out. Yes Offspring mid in my book. Still watching your vid so more to come. Papa Roach very awesome live. Tool absolutely awesome live seen them in Munich in 06. I stumbled on Coheed and Cambria by accident. I bought this live DVD when I was deployed in 05 and I had this janky ass knock off dvd player that would play slowed down like it was screwed and chopped. Imagine listening to Coheed and Cambria screwed and chopped with their weird space wizard lyrics😂
I want to hang out with Adam Jones from Tool. Not to hear about tool, but to ask about being a VFX artist on Terminator, Jurassic Park and Edward Scissorhands.
Offspring band members are horrible people. They fired the drummer because he had guiilian barre syndrome & couldnt get the covid shot. If they happened to play a venue that required it they could have used a hired gun for that just like when someone is injured or very sick
I think your hatred of Tool fans clouds your judgement. Every one of those guys is a master of their craft and they do things many can't even begin to emulate.
I met a guy when I was 18 at my warehouse job that was also a metal fan but the ONLY 2 recommendations he ever gave me were Mushroomhead and Machine Head... Didn't talk to him much after that.
All Time Low was my absolute favorite band when I was 13. I also loved Twilight and was transitioning out of my Disney Channel era, so I think that speaks volumes.
I would tend to agree about Megadeth, but Rust in Peace is such a legendary album it kind of raises the entire band to great. I'm pretty sure I saw Machine Head live in the early 90s opening for Sepultura or Napalm Death, but I really can't remember when, where, or anything about the show. I guess that's mid. I've got a ticket stub somewhere, it's the only reason I remember I was there.
When I was in highschool all the Panic At The Disco fans were either choir kids or theater kids. Though I went to a small enough highschool that the same people were in both.
I will always like Megadeath. In 86' when I was 18, doing College Radio we set up an interview with Dave before a show in our city and ended up smoking weed and watching Caligula on their bus and only got station ID'S and show intro 's, no interview.
I think people who call a band "MID" feel like they understand why a band is popular, but actually don't - because they like the "subgenre" that band is a part of but they totally miss what makes them so special. I can see why someone who loves Thrash might think Megadeth are "Mid" for example - I mean if you're a fan of Metallica or Slayer there is bound to be some appeal where you think "yeah this sounds pretty cool" - but you don't appreciate the "special sauce" that makes a band like that so special. With Megadeth for example they have relatively intricate and technical guitar riffs - you really have to be into guitar to appreciate them and elevate them to being your favourite Thrash band.
The Blackening by Machine Head is a fantastic album. The rest of their stuff is okay. As far as Megadeth is concerned, their stuff from the 80’s is great. I’d argue Rust In Peace is one of the top twenty classic albums in all of metal.
After all these years. You've finally gone and done it, Finn. You got me. How is Coheed in this thumbnail? Why did you make me rage click and comment without watching the video? Why have you turned me into this? Why, Finn?

@@lifewithintergrity Robb says things that he believes need to be said, I respect that in him. If you don't, of course you are entitled to your own opinion
Just discovered your 2nd channel recently, and as I am sick at home I have plenty of time. Highly entertaining, thank you, Finn.

Well put.
I want a local band tier list.
Tool and mid are two words that don't belong in the same sentance respectfully
Tool is amazing. No one can ever tell me different.

I was going to not engage with this video at all because I just don’t approve of the vibe, even tho I know he’s just having fun BUT I do approve of this comment. Tool is far above mid. Objectively, like them or not.
I remembered why i don't watch this guy.
Totally agree with this list, except I think the album Rust in Peace took Megadeth far outta the mid category forever.
Yeah megadeth is anything but mid
Also the new drummer for FFDP has a discord with like twenty People and he’s amazing . Total Chad. Would love to see him go past FFDP some day

Your description of a Coheed fan was so unexpectedly spot on.
I just started watching this and the first band up is Tool. Finn coming right out of the gate throwing haymakers at his own audience. This and the reactions in the comments are the content I come here for. 10/10

As a mid musician, this gives me hope.
I wouldn’t put Mudhoney in that group. They were around the same time Nirvana was up and coming.
Yeah me neither
Nah hop off Silverchair, they’re pretty rad.

Can't wait to see the Reddit review of this video! I'm sure it's gonna be just as comedic and light hearted as this video is!
On the topic of this video, I'll say that imo, when I think mid bands I think Foghat or Bad Company. They easily fit into the bottom right section, as most of their remaining fans are still pumping out the same blues scales at Guitar Center and telling me Slash is peak musicianship.
wow so original.
Tell me that you dont know Megadeth's back catalogue without telling me you dont know Megadeth's back catalogue.
I guess you can call Machine Heads 90s to early 00s discog mid but since and espacially for The Blackening they are above average
I was waiting for Alexisonfire (Finn’s mentioned he thinks they’re mid). I am of course one of the people who thinks they’re exemplary of perfect 2000s post-hardcore but was curious to hear his input on his disliking of them lol
They're great
I like Machine Head. Saw them this past February and they kicked ass 🤘! “The Blackening” is one of the best metal albums of the 2000’s (in my opinion) and it still holds that title for me.
For me TOOL was always either hated or loved, never mid. You listen to Schism and say: That’s some life changing sh*t or just sh*t
Never like: Yeah - that song is kinda …ok
He’s actually more technical than Joey- Travis has those marching band chops
I knew a girl who got a giant Kill Hannah tattoo as a backpiece. Sometimes I wonder.
No regerts also new machinehead album is pretty good
NO FUCKING REGRETS!!!
Idk I know several people that still have the heartagram tattoo. There still proud and love HIM.
I'm so glad you acknowledged the lack of switching out of turrets in space craft. No one else brought that issue up
As much as I love Finn, there would definitely be a fight for who's going on the "other van" if they're was a big road trip. His van would be quite AF "no catchy sing-a-long songs, what are we in a Subaru commercial"... 🦗🦗🦗
Other Van: " 🎶 🎶 Oh, whoa, oh I got a love that keeps me waitin' Oh, whoa, oh 🎶 🎶 "
- everybody.
I know a lot of people who love Machine Head. It's just that they can't defend their whole discography, it ranges from terrible to brilliant. BURN MY EYES and THE BLACKENING are masterpieces.
"Tool is mid" says, "Don't trust me. Question everything I say....(everything)."
Same with megadeth
When we mention FFDP and cool band members, how could we forget Mr. Jeremy Spencer AKA Psycho Sinner?! The *epitome* of cool.
Machine head mid 🤦♂️,did you hear the blackening album, through the ashes of the empire, unto the locust.
for some reason i think that Megadeth is more like speed metal with bad vocals rather than all out thrash, they're not particularly fast when compared to their contemporaries but made that up with more big brain stuff like shred guitars and more intricate riffing, although the "big brain" part is also outshined by bands like Voivod, Coroner, Watchtower, and what have you.
TOOL Army…invade!!!!
FFDP are like light beer, its so watered down that it might as well be categorized as spicy water but you don't mind drinking it in a hot summer day
The thing with tool is you kinda gotta let em grow on you I used to think they were mid asf but the more you really listen to them and they’re music the more realize it kicks ass
These comments have not disappointed
Offspring band members are horrible people. They fired the drummer because he had guiilian barre syndrome & couldnt get the covid shot. If they happened to play a venue that required it they could have used a hired gun for that just like when someone is injured or very sick
I don't understand how Tool is a mid band, but ok
I think your hatred of Tool fans clouds your judgement. Every one of those guys is a master of their craft and they do things many can't even begin to emulate.
Machine Head is overall very mid but "Burn My Eyes" is A tier. That slam poetry song really hurts their case though
I met a guy when I was 18 at my warehouse job that was also a metal fan but the ONLY 2 recommendations he ever gave me were Mushroomhead and Machine Head... Didn't talk to him much after that.
You dodged a bullet.
Mushroomhead is one of the worst bands I've ever heard
I love machinehead the new album is pretty good
All Time Low was my absolute favorite band when I was 13.
As a Coheed fan the physical description of their fans is dead on. Let’s just say it gets TIGHT in the crowd at their shows 😂
Megadeth fan: "Wait, it's mid?"
Finn: "Always has been."
@7:45 Finn describing himself.
Panic at the disco mid sorry can’t agree pretty odd is amazing death of a bachelor is great and also to weird to live is great
And vices and virtues is awesome
Regardless of any other takes, the Megadeath takes are always on point Finn, we'll always have that bond
That line at the top of Tool's logo makes the letter T look like an F. Didn't anyone in the band think that?
Yes I did think they were called fool
I knew this video would be cringe but FFDP being considered cool is actually hilarious 😂 keep reaching Finn
The Blackening by Machine Head is a fantastic album. The rest of their stuff is okay. As far as Megadeth is concerned, their stuff from the 80’s is great. I’d argue Rust In Peace is one of the top twenty classic albums in all of metal.
