The camera loved Perry Como. He had natural warnth and charm. He was the real deal. Way ahead of anything in England. By comparison, we had Billy Cotton and Val Doonican.

This program is from May 25 of 1957. Fats Domino's hit "I'm Walkin'" was released in February of 1957 and "Valley of Tears" in April of 1957.

I thought we were going to see a list of those '50 shows. BTW, The Perry Como show was showing in color in 1957. I remember the guest star was Hedy Lamarr and she was great..I see a lot of H L videos on RUclips but not that one.

Yeah. The Perry Como Show transitioned to color in 1956. I don’t think any color episodes other than one from April of 1958 still exist.

This episode was in color. This kine may have been a color recording using lenticular film. One way to tell it was in color is that there was a very noticeable drop in sharpness when NTSC color was introduced. B&W television was very sharp and bright when seen in the early days LIVE with a good signal. So glad we now have digital HD.

@@barryobrien7935Yeah. Early color broadcasts didn’t film well with black and white kinescope recording equipment. The Library of Congress has some very early kinescopes from 1939-1946 and the quality isn’t all that good and they look worse than a silent movie from 1900 in terms of resolution. At the time, the early picture tubes and the camera technology was primitive, so the resolution was bad when trying to record a television program via film.

Perry Como is a great singer and Fats Domino is a great stylist .
However , for me , the highlight of the show was when Jo Stafford sang the medley of folk songs so beautifully with Mr C playing the guitar .
Jo Stafford is a beautiful woman and looks very capable of doing slapstick comedy like Judy Holliday .
Does anyone know if Jo Stafford ever did any comedy , you know , like Connie Francis falling on her rear end in her movie ' Looking For Love '

He sounds a lot like Dean Martin to me. My dad mentioned he loved to show.

I summoned Perry on my ouija board to tell him that Biden won the 2020 election.
    He said:"It's impossible."
