- Watame reads the names of (most) of the Smash Bros cast... in a goofy voice because Watame.
TL Note: Watame's surprised that it's read as "Young Link" because the Japanese reads "Kodomo Link", or Child Link. All other names in Japanese match how they are read audibly.
Note 1: She did not read out the following characters: Piranha Plant, Joker, Banjo & Kazooie, Terry, Byleth, Min Min, Steve / Alex, Pyra / Mythra, Chrom, Dark Pit, Mii Fighter, Palutena, Bowser Jr., Ken, Mewtwo, or Cloud. The last two she mentioned, but did not do a voice for.
Note 2: Sephiroth's eighth costume is one of his shirtless variations. Sasuga Wataoji.

Does Xander do the names in every language or just English and Japanese? Last time I checked he doesn't so I was surprised he does do it in japanese.

you can't go wrong spending time with Watame.. even if all she's doing is browsing through your PS2 memory card save files for a whole day spelling out the games name.
I just realized, Watame's really good at ending words on a consonant. That's normally not something that happens in Japanese, so t can be tricky for them to pick up when learning other languages. BUT, our genius sheep seems to have gotten the hang of it really fast!

I was more shocked at hearing King K.Rool's name as just Krool. I thought that they just called him that in the cartoon, not the actual games!
R.O.B. was the western name, in Japan it was just called the "Family Computer Robot".

The funny thing is: for Japanese the intonation is really important, much more than English and Spanish. So for her it is really strange to hear such flat intonation for Zelda
True, but in this case I'd say this is more of a shared experience since most people in general probably found the way the announcer, Xander, said things, in Japanese or English, funny/entertaining just because it's so exaggerated.
For example I'd say the way he says "King Dedede" in English almost sounds like he's asking a question too
This isn't Chinese. Intonation isn't even part of the Japanese language.
@@gorgefood9867 Pitch accent certainly is, though. It's more similar to how a person from the southern US might say "git" instead of "get" instead of full blown intonation, though, isn't it? In Japanese it's a bit more important, like in Osaka "HAshi" is bridge and "haSHI" are chopsticks but in Tokyo it's the other way around

@@ChrisDaPatriot This is true. There's a pretty funny video out there about the melee announcer being biased. He says everyone's name so enthusiastically but sounds noticeably miffed when having to say Ganondorf.

Isabelle is Shizue
they also change some names in spanish like isabelle is canela and rosalina is Estela
I knew a lot of them did, but I didn't know they used the same announcer. It's kinda funny hearing them pronounced in an American accent
Nintendo takes its localization VERY seriously. If a name's significance would be lost on the target audience, they replace it entirely to add that significance back in.
The Pokemon Company is even stricter and has a policy that regular pokemon must have their names localized for EVERY language the games release in, but to increase the significance, legendary pokemon names instead have to contain puns or references in their names that would be recognized in multiple languages and nothing that could be interpreted as rude in any of those languages so they can use the same name in each region and have the crowd at events cheer all at once when announced. They actually messed that up a bit with Arceus tho, the US english team didn't catch that the natural English pronunciation of Arceus, "AR-see-us" sounds like "arse," the UK English equivalent of "ass," so they keep changing the official pronunciation to things like "ar-KEY-us" or "AR-kee-us" or "ar-KAY-us" that are less natural in English to avoid drawing attention to the obviously originally intended one.

[edit]: also she's based towards Corrin, lol. The one character I know that does changes pronunciation depending on gender in japanese specifically is Byleth. In japanese, female Byleth is Belesu and male Byleth is Beleto
