The pub scene with everyone kinda ripping into John is my favorite scene from season 1. It's so strangely normal behavior, you don't see too much of that. An actual family moment.
Love that you guys are so smart. Many reactors thought it was Tommy who tricked Freddie, despite obvious clues that it is Grace. She was in the room when Arthur talked abiut Freddie coming back and then she went to the back (to make the phone call).
you have to be media illiterate to miss that tho it literally goes from tommys face in focus in on Graces face when tommys accused by polly. Even while these two weren’t sure that shot made them sure
0:57 Ada and Freddie cruising past & docking outside Salts Mill - Which was the world's biggest building in 1853 - in Saltaire, Shipley, Bradford. 11:14 Freddie and Polly chilling out at Undercliffe Cemetery - A Victorian cemetery for the rich - in Undercliffe, Bradford.
I'm so glad you picked up on the fact Tommy had to get Lizzie out of the way somehow, so he could marry John to the Lees (an arrangement he'd already made with the Lee matriarch earlier in the episode). Just about every other reaction I've watched have totally missed this point. £8 would have been a massive amount back in 1919 for a prostitute. In the first episode Campbell says something about girls going with a man for threepence. There was no welfare state to speak of, Lizzie was from a dirt poor family and had to bring money in somehow.
ngl i never picked up on that mostly because the lizzie conversation happens before the lee meeting and I think my brain just thought A and B plot instead of this
I'm guessing no one has told you yet, yes it is opium. It was a common drug for soldiers after WW1 who had PTSD. Also Thomas was a tunneler in WW1 (one of the worst jobs in the war)and Freddy was the one that got shot in that one tunnel flashback.
*Rita, Sue and Bob Too* (1987) One of the funniest and most "offensive" films of all time. Filmed in *Bradford* the world's first *UNESCO City of Film* just like *Peaky Blinders.*
