I like this RUclips show. Toughly steers the rccar, and if it breaks down, it tells the review in detail about the breakdown. It explains the pros and cons in so much detail that it is a great help in purchasing a new product.👍👍👍
Making the SCX6 better using off the shelf or on hand parts is awesome. I plan on using the shims (which I have) and making the brace for the steering. You have 100% made it easier to mod this thing. Thank you!!
Nice work Joe. Shimming goes along ways....so does not bashing it. People that are treating it like an X-Maxx are breaking them. Nice work on the convertible vid too....it does look much better.
Thanks for the info. Been looking for this. Wasn’t sure what to buy to avoid blowing up the diff gears. Really love your channel. My SC6 is my new favorite rig. Slowly upgrading parts as I find them.
Thanks you for doing you do. 👍 I also shim my pinion gear on the driveline side. If you push in, you can feel the gears bind. I shim the slope out and helps alot.
Idk man...if I'm paying premium prices I'd expect premium R&D and this feels like something that should have been caught in testing. Axial has plenty of history making good quality crawlers and trail trucks. Shims aren't hard to install but still. Just my 2 cents.
Love it, I changed my pinion from the stock 14t and went to a 16t. Seemed to make it much better for my driving style and I’m also running 4s. I will have to do the steering mod.
I spent hours yesterday cleaning that stock goo out of the axles and transmission. Using a toothbrush, dawn dish soap, crc electronics cleaner, and what worked the best fast orange hand cleaner with pumice. Whew! What is that stuff?!?! It’s sticky like a glue and reminds me of one part of 2 part epoxy they just decided to use for a grease, even smells like it.
Why remove it? It looks like good stuff. Won’t fling off like regular grease will at high speed. Not that you need much lubricant anyway to keep things moving smoothly
Ordered a new after market metal axle and still needed the shims. So thank you for this video cause I ordered those shins also and needed them. Keep killing brother.
Man, that thing need's a metal diff cover of a skid plate for the front diff! I've found that when you increase the voltage you usually need to drop a couple of teeth on the pinion gear (on crawlers anyways).
I think the reason for the stripped gears is due to the cut of those diff gears. That specific cut causes an axial force under load which leads to separation.
Motor assembly honey sticks like that . I use assembly honey. Same as you use on the main running brings in the crank shift and other moving parts . I am a assembly honey snot fan
Hi! Good guide to solving the Differential problem/backlash! You don't shim / adjust the pinion. Only the ring gear. Other yotuber's are shim / adjust only the pinion... Why? In 1/1 (Real Cars) you do that for both of them(contact pattern of tooth surface). I think, these is a involute gearing with drive shafts in different planes... Very sensitive if the setting is wrong. What do you think about? I love your videos! Have a nice day! 😎
Cant waith to see someone chop the fenders on this car at least the front onces...might look better than how they are sticking out now..( specialy the front blinkerpoints)
26 lb 6th scale with plastic pumpkin? Will always flex(not in a good way) and expand under pressure and especially when it heats up...which it will. So many reviews revealing everything that's flawed by the time you fix all the week points it's really a $1600-2000 item to get it right.
the more videos i watch on the scx6 the more unsure i am about buying one; everything about this thing is expensive and I don't even want to know how much the cost would be to vitavon one of these.. may just save my money and get that new vanquish crawler with the switchable overdrive
Wait which shims work for these diffs? I checked my front diff and it’s super tight. No play. But I want to have the right shims on hand and I’m going to check it every 3-4 packs
Great Video and will add shims when I get mine - QUESTION - does anyone know the axle thread size (Im aware its a 17mm hex hub) but i want to get wider stance with adding extensions but no one seems to have posted the thread axle size (im guessing 8 but is that right)?
Yet another flawed axle design from axial, thanks Horizon for another design people are going to have to spend money and time on to make it correct from the factory . It's called quality control and testing you guys should try it sometime. Here's a golf clap for you 👏👏👏
@@_beastmode_rc the point is when you're paying $1,100 for something that should be done right from the factory, there's been a lot of people who have already busted gears because they didn't know they need to be shimmed
@@_beastmode_rc I have to disagree man I have a lot of different Basher and racing vehicles, lots of buggies Stampede x-maxx E-maxx hoss various Redcat Crawlers ect. I have been in the hobby since 1992 and the only vehicles I have ever had to shim ring and pinion gears on have been axial Crawlers, everything else has been good from the factory on my other 50-plus RC vehicles. The vehicles you mentioned might be able to benefit from some shimming but I've never had the gears fly apart because they didn't have shims in them

Glad you linked the shims. I already had to replace the front gear set because of a broken tooth.

Holy crap that thing goes so slow and smooth. Its so satisfying till you gotta listen to that fan.

Same with all rc’s man all are junk out of the box. Gotta build em up!

I haven't had any issues with my diffs but after watching this I'm gonna check mine.
I was so close to buying one but going to wait to a V2 comes out !
Nice rig... Just Missing the option to unlock the diff, like on a Absima Sherpa..Also on a huge rigg like this... More gears....

Knowing horizon, its the cheapEST 'lube' they could find!
Why remove it? It looks like good stuff. Won’t fling off like regular grease will at high speed. Not that you need much lubricant anyway to keep things moving smoothly
If probably do the same and use some actual grease, the snot looks weird and sounds weird, too sticky for me

We’re did you get the shims at
Good walk-through, will save me some time for sure. Shims already in the air, should be here later this month.

Thank you I just learned something that I never thought of, checking the ring gear for side to side movement,
I think the reason for the stripped gears is due to the cut of those diff gears. That specific cut causes an axial force under load which leads to separation.
Curved gear teeth have more surface area to mesh
@@bsfunk44 yes, but they also cause axial loads wanting them to separate from each other. Usually mitigated by a beefy or reinforced case housing.
Great info! Thanks! What if you go down a tooth on the pinion? Will it make it more or less pleasant to drive?
Awesome video excellent job very nicely done awesome run

love this truck ! when you add vitavon parts? =) Love vitavon parts !
thank you, u break your rc trucks for us ,))
Yeah my Axial early bronco is A pain in the butt getting the body on and off but I’m starting to get it down pretty good now
The snot looks like a type of marine grease.
Awesome 👍 seems to help
I'm just waiting for your 6s and 8s testing 😄
Well let’s just say something wicked this way comes. Probably not 8s though but you’ll hear all about it.
Super helpful video. Thanks!
I want to see it on the tire ramp!
I need to go back and find the video of the braces you mentioned. I assume you mean like a trac bar brace on a 1:1 Jeep?
On this one. Last video I did with it.
After you shim it install the cover and tighten it. The gap will change. So try different size shims. Not all trucks are the same
Does on sim fit in??
Or do you have two??
My scx10iii looks so small sense this came out it is a new want
When Mr. Tolbert gets his that will be the true test..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh yeah. Probably 8s it and shoot it to the moon! 😂😂
O yeah enjoyed the crawl 👌💯
Kind of watched these out of order, but you've spent a bit of coin getting this to be where it should be out of the box.
Love that truck!
Thanks!
Great vid!

You ever figure out the exact diff lube they use? silicone based 100k, perhaps?
Great info👍
Yeah That was a awesome Jump
Nice video, thanks is for sharing!
Can use 4s for stock esc ?
Such an informative video!
The programming card for 1080 hw works on stock esc in the ryft so maby it will work on this to
That's what I'm hoping for, just haven't tried it yet.
All horizon esc's r copied hobbywing. Even the avion planes esc's they r charging US $100+ for. I use my hobbywing program box to setup mine.

It’s snot. 😂😂
You mind me asking how much you have in this rig? That vitavon stuff isn’t cheap at all! Most expensive RC crawler ever?
Anyone here have discover what type of grease or liquid did axial use in their scx6?
Did shim my diff , but is was too tight, so I think for me it’s good stock ?!
Does it have FOC?
I used gas and removed all that (snot) grease it leaks out after a bit

Typo when comparing the diffs. It’s a scx6 diff not a scx8.
Could try the Hobbywing 25A BEC?
Does one sim fit in??
Or do you have two??
Could be grease, but its SNOT! 😁😜🤮
Right! grey BOOGERS!
👍
Did you run 4s with stock ec?
Hi there what is the name of the grease (snot) in the Diff en transmission and where can I get some
Im not sure people would have all these diff issues if they just set their slipper clutch up correctly. 🤔
Is it possible to get the part number of the shim you used?
I hope u took.the driver out of the vehicle b4 u flipped it..🤣🤣✌👋
Can use shime saiz 13x16x0.2mm ?
Looks like a heavy shock oil
high end car but using a straight tooth differential is not good.
It’s plenty strong enough for most. But it is sintered metal so that doesn’t help.
I've heard that the system can handle 4s but the motor can't. Who knows for sure now lol

Silicone grease.
I refuse to spend $1200 dollars on a product that needs to be modified out of the box.. SHEESH..
WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING AXIAL????
That’s not a mod, that is just shims which any rc actually need them!
The motor is a 3s esc is a 4s
Still can run 4s just don’t overheat it
This is dumb. The people breaking gears. Simply caint drive
